How to Install Plugins in GarageBand [2023]

- GarageBand has a lot of great sounds, instruments, soundscapes, and other plugins but there will be a point at some time when you decide to add more.
If you aren't familiar with GarageBand, you'll probably find installing plugins to be a bit difficult. This is especially the case if you've upgraded your operating system a few times.
I would be remiss not to mention GarageBand Guide's channel here as well as Pete Johns.

Thanks! Just installed GENOME and I couldn't find it even though I had Wall of Sound. I restarted and then went all the way to the bottom. SWEET.

@andrewsiemon my plugin is a component file after I moved it to components like you said in the instructions I force quite garageband & restarted my Mac book but I still don't see my plugins & also I keep seeing "There Is No Application Set To Open The Document ". How do I fix that? Please & Thank You

Afternoon. I'm trying to find my Waves plugins in fl studio and I'm having no luck. I've tried changing the sample rates, adding plugin search paths, uninstalling both fl studio and all plugins, and it's been to no avail. All my plugins are updated, activated, and of V13-V14. I'm not sure what the issue is because the Waves plugins work fine in GarageBand. Only thing FL shows me are Waveshells in error status when I search in the plugin manager. If I could get some tech support regarding the matter it would be highly appreciated. Thank You!

Mines still wont open up the plug in it keeps saying its not verified. I go and verify if type in my password restart close GB and try to click on the plug in it does the same thing over again

At 1:31 hello Andrew I'm new to mac os, when you typed the password which password was it apple id password or any other password. Because when im using the apple id password the password window just vibrates and nothing happens, wrong password i think but it works in app store, what should I do?
Hey I noticed how when I went the plug ins folder there was no VST3. does my version of GarageBand just not have that? what if I make a vst3 folder?
GarageBand uses AU. I usually don't even add the other file types when I'm installing the plugin.
I love how easy GarageBand is, can i use my Neural DSP plugins in GarageBand ?
I've had trouble getting them to load in GarageBand consistently. Although I haven't tried in a while.

GarageBand can take many plugins and samples, but some it just doesn't agree with. Steven Slate Drums, for example, used to work fine but it no longer does anymore.
I'm getting so frustrated here. I did exactly all what you said, instaled, restart computer. Popup with security permission so i guess they got instaled if it pop + I clicked audio unit in preferences and plugins are not visible in my plugins list in garage band. I cannot find them. Any ideas? I used DSK SAX which looks like use to work.
Certain plugins no longer work, or act difficult with GarageBand.
Some will randomly show up some day, and others will never work properly.
Keep in mind that developers are making plugins for Logic primarily, and they’re not necessarily thinking of compatibility with GarageBand.
Any idea on how to uninstall the Bob Perry noise gate? Every 5 minutes a pop up shows up telling me to restart Garagebammnd since the BP is “unstable” - I’ve rebooted, restarted GarageBand - now I just want it gone

Last time I checked, Guitar Rig Pro 6 works in GarageBand and that plugin uses Softube stuff sometimes.
So my answer to that is: yes, they should work. try a demo Softube plugin first to confirm before you buy it.
My Neural dsp wont load into garageband. Is there a fix for this?

for some reason the downloads don't work.
Ok I went through it twice. Missing instructions are, you need to click on destructor before finding the demo version, then you need to wait for the demo version to load before downloading, I guess .
After closing and restarting the Mac, opening a new project in audio and going down to plug-ins, no blue cat 🐈⬛ only the Compressor and Channel EQ. So so far I’m not doing something correctly.
Ok then you go down below compressor and channel eq an open plugins where it says no plug-ins. This opens a drop down menu where the blue cat demo is listed. In my case at the end of the list. Click on that and Blue Cat 🐈 come on the screen and can be used through Audio.
What version of GarageBand is that? Mine is 11 and has nearly none of these options
The latest version is 10.4.

It’s possible it just doesn’t work with GarageBand. Not every plugin does.
Thank you for putting in all the steps . Your GarageBand videos are very good and I find them better than other alternatives. You have changed your look and presentation slightly , which for me is in the wrong direction. Talking fast like some advert is not useful in an educational scenario and means I have to slow the video to 0.75 speed. The hair is more in line with classic musician hair, which is good but the earring puts me off because it is the sort that female nudists hang from their nether regions.
none of both methods worked for me
Not all plugins play nicely with GarageBand.
