Ace was always my favorite KISS member. Seemed like his musical talent extended beyond the “Hey, this will sell records!” mindset.

Lol, there is a reason Ace did a bunch of covers albums. His biggest hit was a cover. He is Kiss through and through. Paul was just as focused on music as he is the show

10,000 Volts surprised me. I felt directly „at home“ when I listened to it for the first time. Sadly, KISS stopped making music many years ago whereas Ace continued being creative.
I think Bruno Ravel of The Defiants was responsible for the mix and mastering. IMO Ace sounds modern but still maintains the classic rock vibe. To me, Bruno did a great job bringing Ace‘s signature sound to a modern-day-like sound level.

I don't listen a lot to Ace's music, but this song got recommended to me yesterday and I think sounds pretty cool. Totally agree with you on the drum sound, but then I'm not a fan of modern sounding productions in any context. When you talked about the video and said "economical way to do a video these days", I immediately thought of the November Rain video, and five seconds later... there it is. 😆

I'm SO glad that Ace is going back to faster, more complex songs. On the last few albums he seemed to rely on less speed and simpler drums. I guess it's easier when you have a very solid backing band.
I expected him to be slowing diwn, maybe releasing an electric blues album... Maybe that's because I see him getting older. I'm glad I was wrong.
Thanks for this review. It was insightful :)

When I gigged I noticed folk like slick for a short time but then disengaged.

It’s like the majority of Ace’s releases of the last 15 years. Not necessarily bad, but not great either. Fairly generic.
Love the guy and will buy it to support him, as I’ve always done, but again like the other releases, I’ll listen to it 4-5 times, and that will be enough.
Just happy he’s still up and about at 70, tho what I’ve seen lately, I wouldn’t bother going to see him play live now.
In theory it’s nice, but the original 4 playing together now would sound horrendous. It was a cluster last time, let alone putting another 23 years on them.

  • @TribalGuitars
    @TribalGuitars Před 9 měsíci +2

Ace, and KISS, are what made me want to play guitar in the first place.
That Ace has the sense to sound at least a little modern shows he understands that he can't stay the same from 1976. The last 2 KISS albums sounded like they were trying to be KISS from the Rock and Roll Over/Destroyer/Love Gun days and sucking at it,
One of the riffs sounds a bit like a riff from Slash's Snakepit's "Ain't Life Grand" album, but that's fair because if not for Ace there's probably no Slash, since Steven Adler took Slash to his house and played the Kiss "Destroyer" album and told Slash they were going to start a band.
Check out "Shred with Shifty" (Premier Guitar) with Craig Schiflet of Foo Fighters interviewing Mike McCready of Pearl Jam. The 1st 10 or 15 minutes are an Ace lovefest!

I whole heartedly agree with the overproduced “slick” production remark. Some of the modern rock stuff such as Mick Mars’ new solo stuff is very similar in that it’s way too overproduced and robotic on the mixing, to the point where it barely sounds like the greasy 80s Mick Mars tone I love. I wish rock would take a few steps back and not try to make things so pitch perfect and “slick” lol.

Ace has said in interviews that he loves cutting and pasting his solos together. And he's sort of known to play with his toys when recording an album.

Ace has done lots of greasy and gritty, don't mind him dropping a record that's a little more radio friendly.
This new stuff certainly isn't as slick as FREHLEY'S COMET.

I bet Ace Frehley wrote 90% of it. Ace has written several killer songs in his career, and you say that? What a dick

Brown just admitted he did in an interview. Brown said Ace had written a bunch of songs with other people but they weren't at the level Brown wanted so he wrote most of the songs used on the album with Ace. Kudos to Ace to admit they were better songs and should be on the album.

Man I actually really Dig this song. Its got a sweet Groove. Totally Ace!! The more interviews I see of Kiss members the more I realize how down to earth Ace is compared to the other guys. Nice video! I'm going to look up your Ace licks video and learn some classic rock staples.

My old guitar teacher said "dont fret" when i told him i didnt wanna give him "great guitar player hugs" anymore...
Yeah... apparently when a good guitar player sees another good guitar player play a good lick, he should always sit on the other players lap and give eachother "great guitar player hugs"..
    Psh. Freak.

People told you right on his name, listen to the first Frehleys Comet record, in the song Rock Soldiers he says his name (as the devil talking to him if you aren’t familiar with the tune). Also - Ace-ism had me cracking up.
