Chris Stuckmann reviews Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Katharine Ross. Directed by George Roy Hill. - Zábava
Maybe my favorite movie of all time. Great stuff.
Hello mate
@@tezmard3003 Ello
Oh hey there nice seeing you here
You are Australian
This is my favorite movie of all time, a true masterpiece. Love it when it’s appreciated.
This series is so good, you should keep this series going next year.
I agree!
+Captain Underpants Agreed!
YES
Tra-la-la
Chris should review your masterpiece
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is in my top 20 favorite films of all time. I think it’s endlessly rewatchable with a huge part of that being because of Newman and Redfords chemistry.
Side note, keep doing these classic reviews even beyond this year. They’re all great and there’s not enough CZcams reviews of older movies
Mine too i love this movie.Paul Newman is one of my favorite actor from the era Cool hand Luke and Ombre was some bad ass movies.
Its great but not that great.
Ant Money mine too
The raindrops song fits in perfectly with the - at times - whimsical and mischievous manner in which Butch and Sundance lived their lives. The old film montage is nothing short of period fantastic and blends in beautifully to the overall romantic mood of the film.
And just as Robert Redford announces his retirement from acting. What a hell of a career
Not shit. An amazing actor. Not many like him today.
He’ll go out with a bang with The Old Man and the Gun, Oscar nominated work it seems to be, based on the trailers
That's too bad. I've been researching and discovering him only recently and now he's retiring. I know actors might say that there's no good scripts. But it sounds like working in movies and being an actor incarnating someone else seems like so much fun. If it were me I wouldn't stop if didn't have a strong motive. Which I guess he has. So...
I mean, to say there are no good scripts is just ludicrous.
Robert Walker no shit you mean?
5:30 Chris, that explosion was absolutely incredible! I'm glad you pointed it out and I took a second to appreciate it!
Richie Godsil agreed after seeing it I really was like holy shit
My grandfather worked on this film while living in Durango Colorado. The train car explosion was misjudged by the film crew as too much explosives were placed in the car. They were lucky no one was hurt bad or killed.
My second favorite movie of all time. One of the finest scripts ever written.
Great review. Funny that you're reviewing Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, I hadn't seen it in awhile and rented it last week. So good! Have you reviewed The Graduate? Another classic.
Mike Nichols is the shit...
Mrs. Robinson you’re trying to seduce me
1997residente mike Nichols was* the shit
@@mrsinister8978
You're wrong. The first guy is write.
@@mrsinister8978
Actually it's not. The "Aren't you?" comes one line later after Mrs. Robinson says something else.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is definitely one of my all time favorites. The chemistry between Butch and Sundance is just so great, it's a movie that will never get old to me. 🎵Raindrops keep falling on my head🎵🎶
Sundance: NOOOO!! I can't swim!
Butch(laughing): Are you crazy?!? The fall will probably kill ya!
*Both jumps off the cliff* "Whoa shit!!"
The greatest buddy film of all time!!
Excellent movie!
Thank you for your review, Chris! I have loved this film since I graduated from High School in 1974. I agree, on so many of your points in terms of pacing; but the incredible cinematography and chemistry between Redford and Newman was like nothing we have seen since. At the time, I think the people who did go to see that film went because of them. That goes for The Sting, too. They were truly brilliant together.
It’s funny you should mention the scene where they blew up the train car; because the very next line got the biggest laugh: Sure you got enough dynamite there, Butch? Thanks again for the review, it made me smile. If you haven’t done The Sting, I hope you do! Love your videos, by the way!
There actually is a behind the scenes reason for the glossy photo sequence. They shot those photos on the set of Hello Dolly, which was going to come out just after Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. Since the studios powers that be didn't want the audience to see those sets on film before Hello Dolly, the photo montage was a creative compromise. Weird, I know, but according to George Roy Hill himself, that's the story.
I started watching your reviews around 2014-2015 and love that I am able to watch your journey and see you do something that you really enjoy. I believe that a lot of people never get the opportunity to have working careers that they wholeheartedly enjoy. Yours is special, man. Keep it up!
Love these classic film reviews.
It's a masterpiece, very well shot and having a great chemistry, loved every scene.
Do the sting my dad loves Robert reford and so do I also I consider him the Brad Pitt of the 70s
Indeed, Brad Pitt is Robert Redford of 90's and 00's :)
I enjoyed the movie. I've been hearing about the chemistry between Newman and Redford for years and I finally watched a movie with the two of them and now I know what everyone was talking about.
Love this series. Some ideas: Casablanca, Stalag 17, North by Northwest, Some Like It Hot, The Apartment, Lawrence of Arabia, The Great Escape, Cool Hand Luke, and The Graduate.
All fantastic films!
I love this list. I would add Dr. Strangelove and Sunset Boulevard.
@@red-stapler574
You know, I had those two on here and cut them last minute to now overwhelm. Two great movies. Kubrick and Wilder at the top of their game
Great list overall, but Stalag 17 doesn't hold up well at all. The humor is so cringey and there's so much overacting in the movie. I saw this once with my class in High school and once with my grandfather. We all agreed the movie is dated and unfunny. The only parts worth watching are some of the scenes with William Holden who actually does a pretty good job without much screentime. Just my opinion.
@@georgevalley1319 Agree to disagree, because I find it very funny and it's my 9th favorite film. The scenes with Animal are absolutely hysterical. I agree about Holden though- he won an Oscar for that role and it is absolutely deserved.
“They both seem to be in live with” how can you not be, Katherine Ross in her youth was the most beautiful thing ever
I truly can't believe that some critics actually hated this film when it first came out and gave a very low scores I think I first saw it when I was about seven or eight and absolutely fell in love with it and every time it was on TV I would watch it until eventually when I got older I actually had the DVD and now I'm in my 50s and still consider it to be a true western classic and should be watched by everyone so some critics just don't know what they're really watching when it's something of a masterpiece....go figure.
I think the tonal inconsistency and the pretty poor music could explain why people disliked it at the time. The bike scene was pretty bad and the montage scene while I lined it, felt like a way of avoiding the leads having to speak much Spanish.
And strange thing is it actually won oscar for "Best Original screenplay" at the same year.
Your videos make my day.
Luke Benson me too!
I agree
Why? He`s a terrible reviewer
Please review Rosemary’s Baby
They are rebooting the movie "Rosemary's Baby." They are going with an all-black cast and the name of the movie is "La Quanda's Baby Daddy." This one won't be a horror movie, It will be a "Baby Mamma Drama." I'm still waiting for the live action version of "The Brown Hornet" Starring Owen Wilson as "The Brown Hornet." Take that PC police.
They already remade it for TV in 2014.
I agree with you. Rosemary’s baby is one of my favorite films.
Nicholas Boljkovac whaaat?!
Nicholas Boljkovac I’m just surprised I’m not gonna try and kill you about it, though I can’t say the same for other people
Please review " L.A. Confidential "
One of the best crime thrillers I've seen.
It's in my top 10 films
That movie sucked like this one did.Ever watched
1)Over The Edge2)Southern Comfort.Those were better.
@@trikkerman1 the only thing that sucks here is your film opinion
I bet you're hoping for a remake of any movie besides this one.
I always get excited when I see you post Chris! Thanks for being awesome over the years!
Your movie reviews are great! Thanks for always making people feel euphoric!!
Do Citizen Kane or The rest of the dollars trilogy
Or both.
Great film to review Chris! Do you agree with me that Paul Newman is probably the most underrated actor of all time? Sure he got a lot of recognition and an Oscar to boot, but his on screen presence was second to none IMO.
This film is a masterpiece. I love this film, and have watched it more times than I can count.
The ending is amazing
Chris please review The Wild Bunch
Interestingly, Stephen King credited that film and Bonnie and Clyde as the root of the bloodier developments in the horror genre in Danse Macabre.
Bob Pfannenstiel
Funny. I recently watched that again. In my 30s and it’s just such an incredible film. I’d give anything to have direct and have the balls to go the root that did. Not like the crap Magnificent 7 remake with the political agenda which was waffle.
I’d love a a hardcore violent, no holds barred deep and meaningful movie like this with Caprio, Pitt, Clooney, Hardy, Gylenhaal, Berthal, McConnoughy. Just all them actors in a movie of high end quality that hasn’t been done before. There must be millions of stories from the West that are untold. Billy The Kid has been done to death but there’s gotta be something out there for them to team up.
It will never happen but a final shoot out where ya see Brad and Clooney getting shot to pieces with a tragic ending where the good guy DONT WIN. It would be magical
The cinematography of Conrad Hall, man...such a well made movie.
Right now, I live for your reviews, Chris. Keep em coming
Love this series. Keep up the great work! I'm actually more of a "The Sting" fan when it comes to Newman and Redford films but I wouldn't mind checking out Butch and Sundance again.
I can only assume you will review "The Sting" at some point as well ? Those two have such fantastic chemistry it's amazing.
One of my favorite westerns of all time! Thank you Chris for these great reviews
How did I miss this review? One of my all time favourite films.
So glad you're reviewing this! This has to be one of my favorite Westerns!
Hey I just want to thank you for reviewing 12 Angry Men back in January, because your review put the idea in my head that I should see it sometime, and about a week ago I saw it, and it was amazing.
Good review as always Chris. I haven’t seen Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid in a long time, it’s one of my favorite westerns and both Redford and Newman are so good in it I wish they would’ve made more movies together.
I feel like I definitely have to watch this. Not only because of your great review, but also because Jeremy Clarkson said, in their Top Gear Bolivia special, that this is his favourite movie and he's quoting and reshooting scenes out of the movie almost at all times in that special.
I feel like, as a fan of old Top Gear, I owe the orang utan this much ^^
I love your classic reviews more than any other type you do.
This one has been on my "to watch list" ever since I saw that scene on top of the cliff in my Cinemania '95 cd when I was 8 or something.
This was a movie my dad would always show me growing up, I am so glad you reviewed it, this made my night
Another film for me to check out :D Thanks so much, Chris!
Also, I know that Unforgiven came out in 1992, and I figure you probably already saw it and maybe even reviewed it, but if you didn't, and you plan on continuing to review westerns like this one, I strongly recommend it. Truly a masterpiece of genre deconstruction.
Ayyy, keep the classic film reviews coming, Stuckmann!
I saw Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at the Wilshire Theater in Santa Monica when it opened. The theater was packed and the audience LOVED it. I have always loved B & S and you are right, those fellers were on FIRE.
I thoroughly enjoy ur reviews and you're pretty much the go to reviewer when it comes to deciding on what movies to watch. Love your worst/best movie reviews, they're the best and its spot on...well almost, but its ur reaction on ur worst movie reviews is what cracks me up the most bcuz most of it are true.
Well thought id share some movies tht you might or might have not seen and probably hear/see wht u have to say about it. Thanks Chris!
1. Moon
2. The Guard
3. Mary & Max
4. Valhalla Rising
5. Im Not There

Feels strange not seeing you in your usual amazing tees, but the plaid looks nice and comfy.
Top quality video as usual, adding the movie to my priority list!
Great review mate another I’ll check out. Great information and always love your stuff
I really want to see this one now. Good choice for a review, Chris.
My very first theatre movie. I was just 3 years old. My father's big, beautiful movie house had just opened one year earlier. The theatre was my "babysitter", and I saw it many times. I loved the music, playing the promo record endlessly, and learned to sing all of the songs. It remains a favorite of mine. Nostalgia? Or just a terrific movie? Why not both?
My creative writing professor was a huge fan of both this film and Casablanca. He adored the screenplays of both and quoted them often. We had no exam for the course so during our two exam periods we watched both films. I was the only student who had seen both of the films before.
please keep this series going its incredible i love it
Holy shit that explosion!
Great content, man. Subbed.
i love these reviews man.. thank you
Excellent review by the best film critic on you tube!
Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid is simply one of the most entertaining westerns ever made with one of the best scripts of all time by William Goldman.
It’s also clear that It has been a tremendous influence on modern movies with the great snappy dialogue and chemistry between Paul Newman and Robert Redford
Just about every buddy movie you have ever seen made after 1970 has tried to capture that chemistry with most not even coming close.
(And I agree that The Sting is even better!)
I really enjoy how smooth your videos flow no strong jump edits. It goes from seeing you describe the film to the film clip continuing your description. How do you do that? How do you use movie clips? Any Fair use issues?
I think you should expand your classics reviews to anything that predates the start of your channel.
There are tons of great films that never really received a review of your level.
I'd love to see you review films like:
An Officer and a Gentleman
True Lies
Play Misty for Me
A Perfect World
Love the classic reviews. Keep 'em coming! Any chance of you reviewing 'Paint Your Wagon'?
Westerns are phenomenal, it’s a shame that it’s not a popular genre. I’m a young guy, but I was raised on old school westerns.
Keep doing these Classics!!! You do them justice!!
The montage scene you’re referring to was done because 20th Century Fox was also filming New York City scenes on the same sets for the Barbra Streisand movie Hello, Dolly! There were actual scenes shot for the trio’s trip from New York to South America, but then it was decided that using a photograph montage would work better so that this film wouldn’t look too similar to the Streisand movie. I saw this movie in a theater in Estes Park, Colorado with my parents in 1974. The first part of the film ended with Butch’s line “Future’s all yours, you lousy bicycle!” Then there was an intermission while the guy in the projector booth changed the film reel. The second part of the film began with the photo montage, which I still think was a great way to tell this part of the story.
Chris I personally want to thank you for reviewing these older films. I personally check out almost all these films you recommend and wouldn't have found out about them otherwise. I know these might not get the most amount of views or likes, and I know other reviewers stray away from these to chase the algorithm more, but I just want to say thankyou.
I need a playlist of your reviewed classics
Where is:
Casablanca
Citizen Kane
And Gone With the Wind?
David Garcia Yo I love doing movie reviews on my channel too, if u want u can check it out if you're interested. I'd love feedback so it'd be great if u told me what u think about my reviews👍
I thought it was just fine, but I was amazed when that train car blew up! I also loved when Butch Cassidy was running in the top of the train!
"Think ya used enough dynamite there, Butch?"
One of my all time favs, I'm 39 so discovered it thro TV, then got DVD, then bought the Sting - an equally good movie. Redford & Newman are like Wilder & Pryor - 2 of the all time great film double acts.
I am amazed by Chris' ability to advertise sponsors in a way that perfectly fits the video itself. Aside this, I'm really digging the old-school movie reviews.
I love that you do these! Do The Wild Bunch or The Flight of the Phoenix?
Chris, please do a review of the sting! I´d love to hear your opinion of the movie, because I loved it too. Also, great review, as always.
Hmm, this is the first sponsor I've seen on CZcams I might actually use... sounds alright, you did a good job selling it!
Also thanks for the review, always a pleasure, I love this movie! Definitely tempted to watch it again now, it's been a few years. I do remember kind of dropping my jaw at the musical scene though lol, really seemed out of place and off tone from the rest of the movie.
Please do a video on “Rebel Without a Cause” it’s such a classic that still hold up and great acting from everyone
Great review of a classic, I agree! If you have a chance watch George Roy Hill's documentary on the making of the film it explains the old school effects of the New York montage. I love this film because of what you said. Totally visual in the way its presented, no mat painting or CGI. .
Thanks for your review. I hope you do "The Sting" as well.
The outdoor photography is beautiful reminds me of one of the old john ford western. And the music tis good.
Thank you Chris
You finally reviewed one of my all time favourite films. I have seen this movie twice and it has aged perfectly.
Just rewatched tonight. Thing holds up incredibly well and the structural changeup in Bolivia has a lot of potential readings. A burst of Hollywood magic right before the advent of New American Cinema.
Just watched it , the film really looks and feels very modern as you pointed out , Solid A
Saw this in the cinema in London when it came out (that dates me, doesn't it?!), and i have to say i loved it then, but yes, haven't seen it again in many years. Not a fan of westerns in general, but maybe your comments make sense of why I DID like this film so much. Will get this again, and re-watch.
Best Bromance movie ever!
Review samurai Jack like so he can see.
I am genuinely curious if he ever watched that show. That is my favorite cartoon of all time and even favorite action cartoon of all time and I have a lot of favorites.
I think he did watch at least some of it. I believe he mentioned it in his Clone Wars review.
Watch his Hotel Transylvania 3 review , he talks about it and even has the Blu Ray case of Samurai Jack in the background
Chris said he loved Samurai Jack in his Clone Wars review.
I betcha he did NOT love that ending, as did 75% of the people who saw it! That's why I say NO!!!! No, no, no!! I can't bear to even relive that one again!
Has Chris reviewed Death Wish, like the original with Charles Bronson?
Why would he?
It’s fine but I don’t think it really warrants a review
Yes
He wouldn't. It came out in 1971, so it breaks the "made before 1970" rule.
I don't think he can review it without bringing up the fascist politics behind it.
It was very much a film of its time, created during a huge crime wave in the 1970s that resulted in films like Dirty Harry or Death Wish questioning whether people (or "criminals," as the movies put it) had too many rights and whether the system was being hamstrung by limpwristed politicians who just won't let cops trample on civil rights - I'm sorry, "do their jobs" - like they used to. So, without help from the government, it's up to big manly men with long-barreled guns to protect their blonde wives and beautiful virginal daughters (because it's always a daughter, never a son) from the Huns at the gates.
It's a guilty pleasure for me, but it's very outdated.
I still hope you review Lawrence of Arabia.
One of my top ten movies, Chris!
Great review!
Please review A Clockwork Orange, if you haven't already!
My dad took me and my brothers to go see this at the theater. Fond memories. My dad was a film buff. He later took us to the other Redford and Newman flick, The Sting. Even as pre teen kids, we found these movies enjoyable to watch.
Chris I ask you incredibly sincerely to consider reviewing On the Waterfront. My favorite film without a doubt and a spectacular achievment in cinema. It inspires me more than anything else and getting to see you talk about it would be incredible. Please consider it
When I was a kid, and this movie was released, multi-screen theaters weren’t invented yet. This film played in the largest house in my town for 8 months. It just kept packing them in
I actually think Catherine's exit from the film is one of my favourite parts.
She told butch she wouldn't watch him die, and the night before the last robbery, she knew that butch and sundance were desperate and that this could end badly for them.
Butch and sundance agreed when she asked to leave in the morning and it was so sensitive and touching I felt.
I thought this was a really beautiful moment between three characters with a lot of history, love, and friendship between them.
Cool to see other opinions on it though.
R.I.P. Paul Newman

Thanks for your awesome reviews!!!

Top Gear Patagonia Special anyone?
review Paths of Glory
Hands down my favorite Stanley Kubrick film, apart from The Shining and A Clockwork Orange.
YES!!!!!! My second favorite Kubrick film, following close behind A Clockwork Orange.
My favorite Kubrick film.
I'd love to see you review the "spiritual" sequel they all did together, "The Sting" sometime in this series.
I would love to see you review Charade (1963) with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. One of my favorites of all time
Jesus Christ, I was not ready for how lethal that explosion looked.
Just watched it a few days ago and it is already one of my absolutely favourite movies !!!!
Can you keep doing these forever? They're so much more interesting than whatever c+ movie came out last Friday. You should review an Orson Welles movie that isn't Citizen Kane, I'll send you one.
Chris, you have to review some Fellini, some Lynch, som Bergman, some Tarkovsky, and Paris Texas.
Saw it as a kid on tv. The ending blew my mind. Didn't known that could happen to main characters!
Classic! Hey Chris I would love for you to review some old War movies like The Longest Day
Please do They Shoot Horses, Don't They? for the next one. It's such an overlooked and underrated gem. Everyone should see it!!!
