  • Listed as one of the best hikes in North America, "The Crack" trailhead in Killarney Provincial Park is an absolute "Must See"!!
    This is my favourite day-hike in all of Canada, the views are simply amazing, but what makes it my favourite, is the challenging last 2 kms. This trail is so much fun to climb!
    It is classed as extremely difficult, so keep that in mind, but I have seen all ages from 5 to 75 at the summit. So don't let it intimidate you, and just enjoy the challenge - you will be glad you did it!
    To access the trail, take the #637 Highway south west off of the #69 Highway (Trans-Canada) about 30 minutes south of Sudbury. Then continue on the #637 for about 30-40 minutes. The trail marker will be on the right (north). There is a daily park pass which you can pay with a credit card in the parking lot.
    *Note: This trailhead is not at the main entrance to Killarney Provincial Park. If you made it to the park main entrance, you have to backtrack 7 kms.

    Did this hike (as well as a number of others in Killarney PP) in Oct 2022 with my brother and LOVED IT!! We had the best hiking weather ever ... no rain, sunny skies, and cool fall weather (oh yes, and NO BUGS!) and the trek was shorter than I was expecting but the views were out of this world spectacular! I can't wait to go back!!

    I think the length of the hike would be the hardest part for us. We did some over-rock hiking like that at Rainbow Falls Provincial Park but it was only a short little thing. My kids even figured out the part where you could only get up and down with a rope they had bolted into the rock. Not bad for prairie kids.
    I really appreciated the Biblical encouragement.

    • @bentroyoutdoors
      @bentroyoutdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, yes I will admit that the last 1/3 of this hike is very difficult, it is probably not for everyone...although I was blessed to see people at the top ranging in age from 5 to 75.
      I've been to Rainbow Falls, I'm glad to hear you got to experience the Lale Superior Highlands - it's one of my favourite areas in Ontario.
      I'm also glad to hear that your children got the hang of the rock scrambling, that's the reason I've made this channel, to encourage families to get out together and explore God's creation.
      Thanks for watching, have a blessed day!

    I will not call these mountain lakes (except the great H 47 'Heaven Lake') . Having taken the trail both ways, I think taking it counter clockwise may be the easier way to tackle it.

      Thank you! I did this video in the first week of September, around 7am.
      If you plan on going, I would suggest an early morning hike because it gets quite busy later in the day - especially on the weekends.

    • @bentroyoutdoors
      @bentroyoutdoors  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting, yes there are trail blaze markers the whole way.
      But towards the top, there is no actual trail, it's just a rock scramble on the top of the mountain so you do have to look for the blazes to make sure your going the right way, but they are there.

    • @bentroyoutdoors
      @bentroyoutdoors  Před rokem +1

      Hey, that's great! I'll give you a couple of tips...the trailhead for the crack is not at the main gate for Killarney Provincial Park. If you've made it to the main gate, you have to backtrack about 5-6 kms, there is only a small sign that's hard to see, you have to watch for it.
      And you need to buy a park pass. You can get it at the main gate, or at the trailhead parking lot, there is a machine that accepts credit cards.
      Also, it is one of the busiest trails in Ontario on the weekends, so I would suggest going as early as you can to beat the crowds.
      Have a great time!!
      God bless!
