How To Do A Bodyboarding Reverse Spin

  • Looking for a new bodyboarding move to spice up your repertoire? Try the reverse three-sixty! This move can be performed on most sections of a wave, with varying levels of difficulty depending on the section. Follow these simple steps to pull it off with style:
Step 1: A good bottom turn is crucial for any manoeuvre, including the reverse three-sixty. However, it's important to not come off the bottom too sharply during the initial stages of learning the move. Start with a slight bottom turn and move forward on your board immediately after. Initiate the spinning motion by lifting your hips and legs from the water while throwing your head in the direction of the turn, keeping your eyes on the breaking part of the wave. The shoulder is a great place to practice this move as there's no rush to complete the rotation before the next section breaks.
Step 2: Keep your legs crossed while spinning to make the move look stylish and to avoid any limbs catching the face of the wave. Control the speed of the spin by adjusting the height and tightness of your leg cross and the duration of your spin.
Step 3: After completing the spin, return to a normal trim position, place your legs back on the water's surface and look in the direction you want to travel next. Reverse three-sixty's are an eye-catching alternative to traditional cutbacks or turns and can make the most of a weak section of the wave.

Thanks Rob for the tips. Our son is an avid bodyboarder and is learning everyday. Something so simple as crossing the legs can make the difference of fluidity and control.

thanks for this video. I get more speed on the reverse spin on right-handers, but I struggle on lefts and seem to rotate too slowly. I will apply everything I learned here, to see if I can get a better rotation on the left reverse!

Do you have to engage the outside rail before shifting your weight forward or is that only for a cutback reverse?

    • @bodyboard_holidays
      @bodyboard_holidays  Před rokem +1

Yeh thats for cutback reverses. You need to keep the board flat.

@@bodyboard_holidays Thankyou for clarifying that. I've always been confused about that. I've had success using both techniques but my reverse is very inconsistent. I'll keep practicing.

Starting move's with a "Nose Stall" before easing into a spin?
Definition of Nose Stall is to pull up on board's nose to slow down or stop riding.
    1. Nose Stall.
    2. Look in direction of spin.
    3. Set rail.
    4. Cut back
    5. look over shoulder
    6. Realease the rail.
    7. Spray
    8. 180 spin.
    9. Cross leg's
    10. Touch heal to buttocks.

🤔 This isn't something we would recommend as you want to carry your down the line speed throughout the manoeuvre.

Another good tip is to kick your uppermost leg back as you initiate the spin and then tuck it up to your bum. The bottom leg stays as per normal during the couter turn, but the kick back in the top leg can help if you have trouble getting the board to initate spinning, or your spin is too slow. Give it a try and let me know if it helps!
