    Very nice in many ways. Absolutely functional tools to get stuff done. Not flashy, Not Spendy, Not Wrencher Status Symbol driven tools. Knipex makes some of the best pliers as does NWS, both brands are German.
    ~Most common size on aircraft airframe is 10-32 and 1/4" - 28. The most common drive sizes are 1/4", 5/16. 3/8", 7/16". While not a lot of really big hardware. Aircraft tend to use a LOT of smaller threaded fasteners, rivets and other speciality fasters.

    those extraction hex sockets work wonders on some of the hex grubs I find. they are never not stuck, so they are my primary hex sockets now.

    New a&p here all three of these tool videos I've watched ~5x to try and get an idea of what I need and what tricks I can pickup. Trying to make the most of the tail end of my student discounts at sk, snap on etc

    I have the Kobalt double drive version of that ratchet with the turning handle in 3/8. I find it takes too much force to break bolts loose and it seems faster to use it as a standard ratchet anyway.
    My current favorite ratchets are the composite ratchets from HF (Tekton sells the same one). I got it because I wanted to reduce the risk of scratching things. Feels way nicer than I thought it would.

    My daughter is wanting to become a A&P mechanic once she is done with high school. Been considering buying her a box and start filling it. I do heavy Diesel repair and almost 300k invested in tools for that industry so looking at aircraft mechanic boxes I'm surprised at how little yall require

      I’d say wait until she’s in a 147 school or trade school, I’m buying tools right now as well and it’a looking to be around $1500-$2000 without the box after student discounts from snap on, mac, and matco

      Yeah we don’t need nearly as much as you guys do. Usually the one off machine specific tools are provided by the organization she will work for.
      As stated by the other comment if she can take advantage of the student discounts from the tool trucks brands that would be great. Not a necessity- but you won’t get discounts like that again.

    That lang set is the same. Exact set snap. On sells. They just put there snap on name on the lang snap ring pliers.

    Hey thanks for the video, what do you think about the century 72" long size toolbox from harbor freight? Too big to start off with?

      Thomas Buss I can’t speak for them specifically as I’m not sure what they are like, we don’t have Harbor Freight here in Canada. But 72” would be a monster. Would take you a few years to fill. Not that it’s a bad thing, the box would last you a long time with no need to upgrade.
      I’d say the most critical part I looked for was a box that was 24” deep. You need the space on top to do bench work. A hutch won’t fit under some wings and I thought the 18” deep ones were too shallow.

      When you get into the schooling you will have to buy tools and that gets you pretty much all the basic stuff you will need

    That silicone in the side cutters is genius. Thinking about doing the same, what’d you use and how did you do it?

      PickleJr77 it is very handy. I used 3M marine sealant because that’s what was available at the time, and I didn’t wanna mix up PRC just for that. But any old silicone will work. Just butter it in there, scrape off excess and let dry. Put elastic band around handle so it stays closed while drying. Then use a knife to split it down the middle after and that’s it

      First time seen a cutter with elastic filled space to hold the cut wire was on a pair of Kraeuter diagonal cutters back in the early 1970's. This works OK for smaller cut wire (safety wire, typically 0.032" dia), the elastic does wear out. On larger wire the elastomer can get pushed too far causing it to rip off the cutter's cutting area or dent damaged. Over time the elastomer does wear out. This is easily repaired by scraping out the wore out stuff and re-filling it with more elastomer.
      Evolution of this became a spring wire inside the cutter's jaw to prevent the cut wire from flying, these were less effective than the elastomer filled method.

    Who makes that locking flex head ratchet to the left of your Gearwrench 120xp? It looks like the Carylyle one from Napa without a comfort handle which is exactly what I want.

      McMahon It’s a Powerfist brand (Chinesium you can buy from Princess Auto here in Canuckistan). It’s a 72t I believe, actually feels pretty damn good for a $15 ratchet! I use it for breaking wheels down. Feels heavy, tooth engagement feels really positive, and it just feels tighter than it should be for its price point! I’m really happy with it.
      Not sure who the parent company is or how it compares to the Carlyle or Napa branded ones. We don’t get Carlyle here in Canada.

    I’m currently in school for my A&P and I was curious what size wrenches and sockets I should have up to? Would I have a need for any 3/4” drive sockets? I have 1/8” up to 1-1/4” in sockets and 1/4” up to 1-5/16” in wrenches. Love your videos man keep it up!

      You should be fine with what you have, make sure your wrench set has an 11/32 though. You’d be surprised how many sets don’t. 3/4” drive sockets would be good for throwing at walls in anger at something, but you likely won’t ever use them. Now, I can’t speak for all airplanes as there are of course maaaany different types out there- but I’ve never come across needing anything that big on the 14 types of machines I’ve turned wrenches on. Hope this helps!

      If you are going to try for heavy jet maintenance you will run into bigger sizes. Hydraulic and fuel piping gets bigger as well as different actuators on landing gear. But the best solution for this is a 12" Knipex smooth jaw pliers and a Rigid E-110. Both open to well over 2 inches and with that you should be able to handle just about everything.

    Hey man, Just wondering Im also a fellow Canadian. I worked at a GM dealership as an Automotive technician for 6 years. Im considering making a change in career to Aviation. Would you recommend it? Could you maybe make a pros and cons video? Or maybe a video talking about some of the aspects of your career? Thank you. Even a reply would be appreciated.

      Hey dude! I've been already thinking about doing a pros and cons video. I'll try and get one out asap. But as far as a quick version- I would say it can be a rewarding career.
      There are so many variables as always, and I can only really speak for a line maintenance shop at a smaller airline but the work is very interesting/challenging, the pay is meh (but hopefully will get better soon), the pressure can be extreme, the hours can be shit, job satisfaction is high, and job security/industry demand has never been better to name a few. Also no rusted out dirty crap like on regular vehicles!!
      Whereabouts are you located?

      turdpike I’m in Ontario. Near London. I just started a new job at a place called Tigercat. I’m building industrial forestry equipment now. I’ve only been there a month. But there’s a chance for an apprentice at the London airport.

      pimpinpenz Are you open to going back to school? Because most employers will likely look for people who have training. Fanshawe has the aircraft maintenance program.
      That being said I’ve seen a handful of guys with no prior aviation experience/training whatsoever. Usually farm boys. You might be able to be an exception too because you have years of turning wrenches on vehicles so it may be worth a shot.
      Only trouble with that way is it’s more difficult to get your paperwork in order for Transport Canada years down the road when you are eligible to get your AME license. The schools are all TC approved and have TC approved exams in different subjects that all must be completed at some point.

      turdpike Yeah like I have my automotive service mechanic license the 310S. I’ve had it for 4 years. But with the position I got a reply for it’s an apprenticeship. So we will see. I’m not sure about school. I will have to attend college to get my license. It’s all new to me.

      pimpinpenz Yup nowadays it’s kinda setup in such a way you need to go to school if someday you want your license. Apprenticing is fine for a while, but you’ll cap out in wage pretty quick. I’ve never heard of an apprentice making more than low $20’s/hr. It’s fine for a couple years as you work your way to the next step. Once licensed your pay jumps substantially.
      Essentially what’s required for your license is: 70% of a logbook of tasks completed, 4 years of apprenticeship time, and then exams.
      Now if you go to school, that’ll automatically count for 2 years of apprenticeship time and you will write all exams required by TC except 1 that you’ll write when you are finally eligible to get your license. Hope that makes sense

      Matt Menendez the bigger is for a older series PT6 engine fuel control unit high pressure fuel bowl, and the smaller is for piston engine Lycoming TIO-540 oil drain plugs. Some genius decided to make them square drive fasteners! Good eye though!

    Been thinking about going into the air craft industry. Last year of highschool. As a current mechanic in this industry would you say it’s worth it? I’ve always liked air planes and I think this job is a lot more interesting than a regular automotive technician

      Gotta have a love for it for sure. Don’t say I have any regrets, although I know I could he making more money with less responsibility being like a heavy duty diesel wrench. It’s what you make of it like anything else, you are the master of your destiny in the industry. If you’re a dud you’ll be treated as such, if you apply yourself and excel you will do well. Either way everywhere is desperate for people right now. The pay is slowly catching up to what it should be, mostly driven by how short of personnel operators are getting. Many different avenues you can go within, airlines, GA, private, etc. As an occupation to just pay bills, it will be fine. To excel, have a good attitude and get after it.

      Aviation maintenance is amazing imo, I'm a year in no regrets. Good pay as well, I hear that GA (general aviation) like the smaller aircrafts the uploader works on is a path for people who are in it more for the passion than money. I'm a helicopter tech clearing $58 an hour and alot of the major airlines top you out within 5-8 years at $60-$69 an hour

      Hey bro! I got it from Amazon- and I’m not 100% sure about other drive sizes. I’ve seen a similar design in 3/8 drive but I believe it was a French brand (not sure if it was Facom though)

      Steelman. At this time anyway. Would not recommend them, as the light head gets floppy quickly as the hinge is used. I’ve switched to a Coast headlamp and I much prefer it

      mark burg was from Costco, about 3 years ago. Paid around $1700Cad. They are no longer made though I believe

    I'm a 32 years experienced Air Force Aircraft Mechanic and this is, another, video how to NO organize an aircraft mechanic tool box. I write this because I hope that the new people that want to enjoy our big family, whit this kind of example can have a wrong example. I hope to see a new video of that wonderfull tool box organized as the tool control quality chek require.

      Yes in a perfect world I’d have it all shadowed. I have yet to see a civ mechanic that does have every tool shadowed. When you don’t have a government supplying you with tools and a box, or a tool crib full of personnel with sign out sheets and what not, things are a hugely different.I have yet to leave a tool behind, it comes more down to individual of course.
      The Air Force is a completely different world. From talking to many Air Force mechs, and actually working on one of our civ aircraft on base for a few weeks I’ve seen it first hand. We both are in separate worlds.

      A socket is a socket, it doesn’t care what application its being used on. And I don’t work on heavy’s, but they are all similar. Yes you have big sized fasteners in certain precise locations ex. Landing gear attachments, engine mounts, axle buts, but the day to day mechanics are still using mostly 1/4” drive. Cars wish they were built like planes, but they would be at a price point nobody could afford! Much much better quality materials and attention to detail.

      Sorry accidentally deleted your last comment. “Big” is a relative term. I have worked on anything from small single engine piston, bush planes, regional turboprops and private jets. Biggest by weight I’ve wrenched on ATR 72’s. Small compared to a 747 but a spaceship compared to a Cessna 172.
