Fun Fact: George A. Romero (Yes, Night of the Living Dead director) was hired by Capcom to write a screenplay for a Resident Evil film in 1998. He would've directed it too. The screenplay was and is a direct adaptation of the first game. Fans will be bemused that he's a Chris/Jill shipper. Romero was genuinely excited about the project, wishing to bring the game's style of horror to the big screen. And then he was fired. Why?
“His script wasn’t good,” said Capcom producer Yoshiki Okamoto, “so Romero was fired.”
That means some salaryman in his best English had to tell this cinema legend that "Ya know the Event Horizon dude? We're gonna go with him."
As an RE fan, I gotta sigh for what coulda been. Not to mention Capcom could've printed their own money with that deal but chose not to.

I enjoyed it but I also expected it to suck dick and not be that good, so my expectations were so low I enjoyed it, I figured they would fuck us over on the final fight in retribution, I knew they would somehow make her not have powers again, I knew we would only get alice and clair. they at least ended it so maybe someday we will get a more faithful adaption based on the first 4 resident evil games or , 1 2 3 and code veronica. 4 would be a different movie cause it's not the same virus.

The characters from the RE games are useless in these movies except Milla, mainly because the movies were made to glorify her.
I showed my friend who is a major Resident Evil fan these movies and he was appalled that the most popular RE characters were overshadowed by a girl who haves a unrealistic amount of skills. It's pretty insulting if you're a hardcore fan and you have a completely made up character that steals the spotlight of every original character in the franchise.

He calls himself a "populist filmmaker", a term that he uses as a way of saying that he only cares about whether his movies entertain and cheer audiences while disregarding reception from professional critics. Pure laziness on his part! I admit that I understand why people hated AVP, though I still find it somewhat enjoyable despite it not being canon. And there was Soldier, starring Kurt Russell. Old man Snake Plissken does no wrong by his acting. The only two good films Anderson ever made.

Daniel Lado The closest for a good videogame movie is Wreck it Ralph (even though that movie was not really a videogame movie, but it still was in a videogame world, and even had characters from videogames, so, that's the closest that we will have for a good videogame movie).
I thought the animated film, "Resident Evil Damnation" was really well done, creative, and definitely the best video game movie I have seen (I would rate it 8/10).
However, "Resident Evil Damnation" had the advantage of being an original story, set within the source material's canon, that was also built from the ground up to be a 100-minute film with a three-act structure. So it did not have to contend with the challenges that most Hollywood-made video game movies have, such as converting a 5-20 hour campaign (paced like an obstacle course rather than a three-act narrative) into a 90 minute to 3 hour film for theaters, building the video games' world and lore for casual viewers while the story is told, and further fleshing out the story/characters/themes to make it worthwhile for a movie (since many acclaimed games can get by just on gameplay without much story to immerse people, unless it is a game like "Metal Gear Solid", in which case the filmmaker would have the opposite difficulty if fitting all that story and character development in there).
So I consider "Resident Evil Damnation" an exception to the rule and I still say I have yet to see a well made video game movie, produced by a major studio. And it does not help that video games are still not taken nearly as seriously as comic books, so we often got passionless and/or incompetent filmmakers hired to make these video game movies.

As a fan of mindless action movies (I even liked Underworld: Blood Wars and XxX: Return of Xander Cage), I just could *not* get into this movie franchise. I like Resident Evil, but these movies are just so godawful. I never liked Paul W.S. Anderson's movies (save for Death Race, which is mediocre at best), and this was no exception.
I am NOT interested in this movie, and I probably never will be.

I love Joe and his content. Don't get me wrong his game reviews are where his CZcams channel shines but his movie reviews are also funny and informative. I honestly don't see how people can have such animosity towards them.
I guess maybe because he's cursing so that makes him unprofessional. But that begs the question as to why the hell people even bother looking for these critics on CZcams if they're looking for professionalism.
Some people prefer that he just does game reviews and call him lazy when he puts out literally anything but a game review.

Saw this video and the spoilers discussion when they first came out, but I never saw the movie until now. When they used the laser grid in this one without the x-comb pattern, I thought they could explain it by saying only the Red Queen’s processing power could create it. Isaacs had her reboot before that scene, and were I one of the writers for this project, I would delay her reboot until later, so I could use my convoluted excuse. The main thing that bugged me, though, was the timer, like you said. They did that 5-minutes on Namek trope, where with about 4 minutes left before chasing Isaacs, she fights, gets trapped, beats ‘im, gets the antidote, has enough time to take an elevator to the surface, enough time for Isaacs to follow her up there, and enough time to listen to him go on about nonsense before finally releasing it.
Even if we took their lousy timer at face value, they then say the antidote may take years to reach the rest of the planet, so if the last dregs of humanity were in the Philippines and projected to die out in 30 seconds, then humanity ends with her and Claire. :facepalm:
Why’d I still watch it when I saw this prior? I like that critics inform me and help me come to my own conclusions, so I don’t see their word as law. For example, I enjoy Justice League and the all-female Ghostbusters movie, even though Joe dislikes ‘em. I still think this movie deserves a 4/10, rather than a one. x’D I love critics because they help me look at films from perspectives I might never have considered, which is why I watch your excellent videos.

Please consider doing a review on the animated ones, Damnation, Degeneration and Vendetta. They aren't exactly good, but they ain't half bad either. At least they're lore-friendly and based on the videogame characters.
