    Hey man, I really enjoy watching your videos, especially builds and rebuilds like this. It's great how you get down into the technical stuff. A lot of guys don't do that, or at least they don't film it. Don't change your style bud! Great videos!

    Nice. I found out despite the tight seals the Traxxas ones don't even keep out the water very well. I bought a cheap alloy gearbox for my SCX10 from Chinese Ebay and it was super smooth when it arrived. Looked inside and just a light oil over all the gears and metal shielded bearings. Not ideal for water and trailing but perfect for comps

      yeah for comps and dry stuff I like the metal shielded bearings too.

    Just curious. Could you make a full video of how to grease and reassemble the Traxxas 6x6 transmission?

  • @nelsonmercado4594
    @nelsonmercado4594 Před 3 lety

    Thank you for your video. Usually, what kind of grease do you use for gears? And in this case for the transmission do you use the same grease or a different one? Thank you so much.

    The play between forward and reverse, is it normal. It seems that the spur gear turn halfway thru before it engage

    To get help with reassembling a RTR TRX-4 tranny, it helps to print out the manual for the TRX-4 Kit from the Traxxas website. This will show all steps in putting the tranny back together.

    how do get the play out of the transmission do you get a special shifter. with the sport there is no play because it is only one gear.

    All my TRX builds are custom builds and I never looked at the bearings in the transmission. I use 2500 mah lipos though.

      yeah this mod isn't for everyone, I did however find out about an issue with all 3 of my trx trucks, the front driveshaft rubs the trans case under full compression. You may want to check that on yours. I will most likely make a video on it.

    Love the videos. Thank you. Question: where can I learn more about crawler competitions? Can’t seem to find any clear explanations or information on where to find them. I live in Wisconsin for what it’s worth. Thanks!

    • @ExocagedRC
      @ExocagedRC  Před 5 lety +1

      Well SORRCA is the biggest name in scale competitions and most clubs just follow their rules. If there are no scale clubs in your area you may need to start one. A simple Facebook group can work wonders.

      Where are you in WI? I’m in Oshkosh. I’m not part of any club and have never been to anything but I believe there is a clup in the Oshkosh, Appleton, Fond du lac area. If your in the area ask about it at hobbytown in either Appleton or Oshkosh. They could help you out.

      My gen8 came with metal shield bearings, are their rubber sealed ones tight as well?

    • @dezfan
      @dezfan Před 5 lety +1

      Exocaged RC not sure, haven’t tore into it just yet. I was referring to building s full on comp version of the Gen 8. TheTRX is bad ass, but I’d love to see the Underdog come in and put a hurt on them. 😈

    • @ExocagedRC
      @ExocagedRC  Před 5 lety +2

      I had planned on doing that. In fact a 4ws compared truck but their portals just aren’t strong enough yet and there is still a major lack of parts I’d need to make it tough enough to be reliable. The #1 issue with that truck are the top portal gear CVD’s and the arms on the portal cases. Aluminum cases are due out in a month or two but there is no timeline as yet for stronger portal top gears. I have a Gen7 with Gen8 portals that’s broke right now because I’m tires of buying plastic cases. In the end I chose the stronger platform to build with. Maybe once they Gen8 gets better aftermarket support I’ll build one.

    • @dezfan
      @dezfan Před 5 lety +1

      Exocaged RC understand, want to give yourself the best chance. With the Gen 8 being so new, it’ll take a little time for the after market to catch up. The TRX is already on their 3-4th rendition.👍🏼

    • @ExocagedRC
      @ExocagedRC  Před 5 lety +1

      @@dezfan yes in time the Gen8 will be buildable to the same extent as the TRX but not yet. We have a Pro Class at the Barbarian Scaleplex and if you and your rig aren't 100% ready you will not finish the course.

    I can guarantee you that if you use the Xerun AXE 2300kv on stock gearing a GensAce 3S 1400mAh LiPO runs for at LEAST 1 hour if using the full light kit on the Bronco... If not running the lights I have push it as far as 1 hour and 30min of mixed trail/crawling, just did that yesterday running the no shield mod on the bearings. My usual 2S shorty 4200mAh can run for as long as 4 hours with no lights and 3+ hours with full lights.

  • @ArielsSmartyPants

    In the real world, if a bearing isn't tight on a shaft (almost to the point of requiring a puller) It's unusable and either needs to be replaced or the shaft knurled, same with the outer casing. I've never understood how RCs can utilize bearings which just slip and spin on the shafts rather than actually turn the bearings.

    • @ExocagedRC
      @ExocagedRC  Před 5 lety +2

      You are correct on how bearings should fit in the real world but even some of them are slip on in many places, in the RC world many people don't have the proper tools to press bearings on and off plus these tiny bearings are fragile. So it makes sense that they just slide on. The stock seals are so tight on these you could see where the shaft was spinning but the bearing was like a bushing
