Omega-3 Fatty Acids (7 Great Sources...) - 2024

- Omega-3 Fatty Acids are important to good health and optimization. The Omega-6:Omega-3 Ratio is also important to control inflammation and end-organ damage. You can optimize both of these things by eating the correct sources of Omega-3 fatty acids.
There is some mis-information out there as to what provides usable Omega-3's without giving too many Omega-6's. This video will help clear up this confusion. You may be surprised at something I say in this video.
Your body operates best when you give it the nutrients it needs, and avoid giving it the slow-poison of inappropriate foods, or food-like products. There is no need to pay premium prices for an Omega-3 supplement. There is definitely no need to pay extortion-level prices of a prescription source of Omega-3's. Just eat the correct, natural foods and you'll have all you need.

Happy New year Dr. BERRY. From u.k. our NHS is great but still insist that diabetes & hypertension means medicines for life😑
After much research i decided on low carb.....3 STONES LIGHTER after 7 months. Taking it slower & experimenting.....HALFWAY THERE, ITS NOW A WAY OF LIFE. No meds & I MADE UP SOME GREAT LOW CARB RECIPES. THANKS FOR THE NO- NONSENSE ADVICE. BERRY IS THE BOMB!!
Great job! Share what you've discovered with the world!
@@KenDBerryMD And here in Sweden, people get mocked for believing in Santa, yet there are still those who believe in our national dietary guidelines.
Mr I discovered keto a, year been doing it properly 3 month sugar levels like normal person BP is near normal, and, I'm doing compound weights 280kg 5x5 5reps 5 sets keto strong 💪
@@NicheXclusive I never been diabetic...but was very overweight...at least 6 stone! Have lost 3 stones which is great but it's more about health now. Well done! I haven't found it too difficult...but am not as strict as I might be...I still avoid carbs but tend to still eat too large a portion. Learned lots tho'. Congrats & keep going!! It's just a better way of life...glad I found Dr. BERRY...he takes the keto snobbery out of it 👋😁
NicheXclusive my keto anniversary is on feb 1st.. so i am also touching one year.. keto is the king
1. Mackerel
2. Herring (Kippers)
3. Sardines
4. Salmon - wild caught
5. Oysters
6. Beef/Butter - grass fed
7. Eggs/Pork - pastured
Salmon and Oysters should be eaten sparingly because of heavy metal contamination and pregnant women shouldn't touch either during pregnancy!
@@lskjdewlk Mercury, it's a well known fact that all wild caught fish have some level of mercury only an uneducated dumbass would deny that!
@@living-wellon-less5669 There's more to it, research.
@@folksurvival Yes there is, fish that are higher on the food chain have higher levels of heavy metals because they are exposed to the same toxins as the smaller fish but they also eat the smaller fish and the only salmon that doesn't eat other fish are sockeye which has a diet almost entirely of plankton! It's called marine biology, research DUMBASS!
@@living-wellon-less5669 Why are you making childish insults for no reason? I didn't deny the existence of marine biology. You have lots more research to do, as I already suggested before, so it makes no sense for you to repeat the word back for no reason followed by unrelated immaturity that has no bearing on the topic.
We have three beautiful little chickens in our backyard. They don't run free in the woods. They're confined to our yard, but they have a very nice life. And they lay a amazing eggs.
Everyone should have three beautiful little chickens in their backyard
@@KenDBerryMD what is your position on cod liver oil? It's relatively affordable here in Norway, but I'm somewhat paranoid about factory food these days. Do you know about any studies about it?
If they ran through the woods, the coyotes would probably have feasted on them by now.
If you live where there are fleas or ticks, let your girls out in your yard a couple times a week while you're out with them. I turn mine out for the last couple hours of the day while working or just hanging in the yard. They will clean your yard of any ticks and fleas. If you have dogs, you'll find you won't have to put that nasty flea medication on them. Plus it will boost the bug ratio for your girls and you'll see a huge difference in their yolks.
@@cassieb1860 Guineas will even do a better job of it, but chickens are better for eating and eggs.
I'm a Whole Food Plant Based person but occasionally have meat. It was suggested to have fish oil. I want to say, I have never heard someone so sincere and respectful as hearing you about Vegans. It goes both ways but I have a great regard for you. I enjoy your show and hope we'll all can learn the best of both worlds and make our world a truly better place for all 😊
Hear, hear! Glad you have an open mind. Our bodies don't care what we think , what our feelings are about things or what our philosophy is . . . Our bodies need what they need to live a quality life! Dr Berry did express it very well in his video, I thought that was very cool how he put it . . .
H9w does plants and carbs not turn to sugar if high insulin???
Make sure to avoid sardines in bad oils; look for water or olive oil packed. Saute sardines in butter for deliciousness.
Thank you! I never thought to cook sardines in butter. Yum.
Great point! I noticed many brands use highly refined oils like cottonseed etc.
Packed in water for me!
There is nothing wrong with the ones packed in mustard.
olive oil is an o6 fatty acid
My sardine recipe: 1 x can of sardines, finely chopped small onion, freshly squeezed lemon juice. Optionally a splash of hot sauce. Put the ingredients into a bowl and mash them with a fork. And that is it, apart from the eating.
Keep spreading the word, Doc! I just got kicked iff the NOOM site for citing the research you’ve led me to when they condemned the Keto diet. After I answered them with research sources, they gave up trying to yell over me and dumped me. I hope their readers had a chance to see the source you’ve cited and referred me to. I’m grateful to you for the reversal of my diabetes type 2. You’re saving lives!
Noom is a psychological or counseling service, not physiology. You re messing with their bread n butter!
Really? WOW . . . that is really messed up, and makes me wonder who is behind the NOOM app/site. Incredible, but I'm sure its understandable if they benefactor/funder is known.
I bought a case of sardines in olive oil from Portugal, I eat one tin a day and in a few weeks I was able to successfully lower my methotrexate dose (RA), from 10mg to 2.5mg over about 3 months. I haven't eaten sardines for over 55 years, but since I began Keto I'm considering all foods that are good for me.
Glad the grass fed beef, butter, pork, and egg options available. Not big on seafood. Thanks for the information. Just starting carnivore!
Typical 4 oz serving of grass fed beef has measly 83 mg. of omega 3. Grain finished is not much less. I still don't know what the big deal is.
Jacob Mueller, he forgot to mention grass fed cheese, milk, and cream as well. Of course, there are more carbs in those as well as in the eggs. As long as you are predominately eating meat with just a little of the higher in carbohydrate animal products you should be okay. Congratulations for starting the carnivore diet!
@@MrDavidknigge You are correct, David. I researched this carefully last fall.
@@MrDavidknigge thank you for the info. I can’t always afford grass fed items. Butter for me is the easiest. And when my grocery store has clearance grass fed meat I get what I can but it’s not often.
@@sweeteuthiedoll just buy what you can afford. Red meat is the most nutritious food you can eat
Another great video, Dr. Berry! We’ve started increasing our Omega-3s after reading Superfuel. We will be visiting a local farm this weekend to get high quality meats and eggs. They are more expensive, but investing in our own health is well worth it!
This is the first time I’ve watched one of his videos in awhile. He has blown up!! Good for you dr berry!
It's impolite to talk about people's weight. If you thought he was too skinny before, and looks better now, you may think pointing it out is a compliment, but you should keep those thoughts to yourself. smh
@@Cosmo-Kramer ha ha
Absolutely love you. I started eating correctly hard core keto 9-17-2020 and I have lost 45 lbs now and I’m so happy. That’s for telling us what is going on with our cells, tissues & body.
Hi Ann. So happy for you. Do you have to measure your foods every time?
Dr Berry... this is the BEST video I've seen on Omegas. As usual... thank you! PATREON
I recently had a TIA and have been told that increasing DHA will help. Thank you so much for this video!!!
I've been searching for this ratio explanation all day now. I finally said lets seen if Dr. Berry has a video. And of course he does. All my questions answered. Thanks Doc!
Thank you so much for the info in this video. I'm just starting keto and your videos are a big help!
Great Dr. I have every respect to you as you are trying to get everyone within your comfort zone. Speaking of convenient budget is great so people can benefit. Thanks Dr. Berry and God bless .

Thats one of his best qualities. He is not reaching only the wealthy people, but the regulars that are trying so hard to get ahead. Can you make a video about converting yourself in a more of a meat eater? I’m considering that idea, I am a pescatarian and I am so nervous about this. I need to be guided well or not do at all.
@@erikab1501 I learned a new word today, I never heard the term "pescatarian" before. Thank you.
Happy new year! I have learned so much from your videos. Keep up the good work.
Happy New Year, Dr. Berry!
You do a great job helping people to get healthy. Thank you Dr. Berry.
I love love your Videos. Thank you for educating us. Greetings from a German out of South Carolina.
Thank you for breaking it down into easy, practical steps! Love your info!!
ps, I grew up on sardines! Love them with mustard...
Thanks for you help Doc Berry!!
Great list, thanks Dr.
Happy New Year to you and your family. Your videos about Vitamin D and Keto Diet videos are the best health videos I have seen on CZcams.
Been following you for a few weeks now and I just love your down to Earth way. Your comment on the oysters for vegans and oysters not having cute and cuddly faces cracked me up and had me laughing out loud. 😂🤣 I’ve done 4 weeks keto and had bad digestive issues for 3 of the 4 weeks, so switched to carnivore now, week 5, and all my gut issues have already gone after 5 days carnivore. I can’t stand fish, so have bought a quality krill supplement and just switched to grass fed meat and butter 👍 Keep being you. Love it 😍
If u take clo you ll get the O-3s along with vitA & D. Always take the high vitamin butter oil along with it for vitK too. Very needed to prevent bone spurs and teeth & vein plaque, etc.
Thank you doc. God bless. We need more doctors like you. Never change doc. ❤🎉🎊🙌 happy new years
Happy new year Dr. B. My wife and I loved the book. Keep up the great videos
Thanks Dr Berry for your🤗 videos. I enjoy and greatly appreciate your help with confusing in medicine.
Thanks so much for this info, doc and Happy, Happy New Year to you and yours! xx
Thank you Dr. Barry, I’m with u!
Great info as always and HappyNewYear to you and Neisha!
Happy New Year, Dr. Berry!
I'll try out the fish you mentioned, as I just found a fish market near my area.
Thank you, Dr Ken! Another info filled video!
Another "just in time" video! I've been wondering how to get more omega 3 into my diet.
Happy New Year! Thank you for helping us! You are so sweet!
I make tuna salad (without the tuna) by mixing canned mackerel (and sometimes salmon) together with lots of onions and celery and a lil mustared, salt and pep, and avocado mayo. DELICIOUS! and then I wrap it up in some kind of lettuce.
I always mix sardines in with my skipjack tuna salad. I find tuna a bit bland.
Wahhh! 😖 Onions my downfall when I cook...
9 carbs per 100g!
I add dill relish so no sugar.
@@GDixon-ch3yl Good Idea, Thank You.

Are caned sardines any good as a omega3 source.
Happy New Year, Dr Berry, Neisha and family!
Thank you! Can you do a video on histamine intolerance and keto? Would be great!
Hiya doc 😎🤩👍 sardines are my favorite happy new year 🎆
What about anchovies? I'm an anchovy fanatic! YUM! Easy to find them packed in olive oil.
Good question!

Yessss! Love this video! Thank you for this great info! 🙏🏼😊
Thanks, Dr. Berry!
Very good info. I do oyster, butter, and pasture fed meats.
I shy from the oysters because most are farm raised in China.
Great info as usual...... looking younger and younger each time you put a video up 👍🏻😊😜
Oohh Doc...Happy New Year....In every video you look more and more handsome.
Lucho Portuano I agree
Thank you for helping us.
"Oysters they don't have faces and they are not cute and cuddly" LOL
They are also not Kosher 🤮
I also love ❤ 😍 💖 them for zinc.
Mmmmm. 😋 😋 😀

How did I miss the video? I needed this video to help me itching skin problems from my carnivore diet. Thank you.
Thank you so much Dr. Berry!
My sweetheart dropped out after he hit his pre-lockdown weight. So I reached out to someone who already had a weight problem when I worked with them 20+ years ago. They like what they're learning, and easing toward carnivore. I have a diet-buddy again, and a real hope my friend will get healthier!
Thank you! I was just about to buy some very expensive omega 3 fish capsules. I hate fish. So I will try some of the other things that you had mentioned. Thanks again!
Thank you
Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the information very appreciated 🙂
Sardines is also my source. Brilliant video. Pork for me is out due to the downsides, bad fats etc and other not so healthy protein, which our bodies find hard to breakdown or digest.
Thank you Dr. Ken.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP
excellent, you are anointed by Jesus , with wisdom and purpose to help the masses, in health
Hey Dr. Berry thanks for the video! I’ve been a long time subscriber and I had a question. I’ve been doing keto for the last 4 to 5 months and recently with the holidays I kind of went on a binge for about two weeks. I ate more carbs than I was used to along with sugar. however I noticed I was still losing weight and I did not gain weight at all. For some reason I feel like I should be concerned but then I started thinking maybe I’m just a fat adapted now. Any thoughts?
We still call herrings, herrings 😊.... Kippers are whole herrings smoked over oak chippings.... Craster kippers are fab from Northumberland UK. X
Oh ok, just ignore the silly American!
@@KenDBerryMD Bless you, you are certainly not silly! Happy New year and thanks for sharing all of your knowledge. X
Kippers sound tasty. I've never tried any smoked fish but I think I may soon.
@@FoereaperGaming
do not get the dodgy brightly orange dyed kippers that come vacuum packed with a knob of butter. Go to the fish counter in your supermarket or local fishmmonger and ask for the Craster kippers they are undyed and incomparable in flavour and superb! Place the kipper in a frying / saute pan of boiling water, let the water come back to the boil, immediately turn off the heat and put the lid on. 4 mins later they are done. Perfect with a squeeze of lemon.
@@KenDBerryMD Hello from South East England - Place the Craster kipper (as opposed to the standard vacuum packed nuclear orange dyed regular kippers with the knob of butter inside!!) in a frying/saute pan of boiling water, let the water come back to the boil, immediately turn off the heat and put the lid on. 4 mins later they are done. Perfect with a little squeeze of lemon. Craster kippers are the best because they are undyed, naturally smoked and delicious.
Excellent, Doc!
Thx doc. Your the man!
Happy New Year. I have my family using butter, but I never heard of grass fed butter. Love your videos
Kerry Gold. Oh my. Irish grass fed butter. usually comes in the half pound and it's expensive as a regular whole pound for American butter but if you taste it once you'll have it every now and then. So much richer.
I hope you and your family have a great year! :)
I would like to see you put up lists of the foods showing what you are talking about more people would appreciate than just verbal from you.
Thanks going to try some mackerel and put it in my shopping list
Doc, I have a question very loosely related to this video : is dark chocolate (let's say 85%) ok ? I'm pretty sure I never heard you talked about it although I watched almost all your channel twice.
Hi Dr. Berry, Can you talk about the role of ph balance in relation to menopause and the keto diet? And how best to achieve it?
Thanks
Enjoyed your video, it's great that you've heard of Kippers, these are Herring that have been smoked, but not like a cigarette 😄they are very tasty, I live on the northeast coast of England where there's a popular tourist destination called Whitby, it's where Bram Stoker wrote his book about Dracula, where you can still buy freshly smoked Herrings (Kippers), but they are quite expensive. When I was younger, you could buy what were called Rollmop Herring, so these weren't smoked and can't say that I've had them. Good information from yourself Ken. Cheers.
Yo thanks doc! You the man
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!🎉🎊
AWESOME THANKYOU
Thanks for this information on Omega-3 and items that have it. Now I know what to look for. Yes, never got them, but do see all these paid commercials on Omega 3 supplements. Seems anything on TV food/health wise is always too good to be true-too much selling hype. Glad you confirmed this. I guess some people out there are gullible to try these TV items.
I love sardines, and I found it funny when you mentioned you need to head outside when you eat them because the lady thinks they smell bad. It's true. They do have a potent aroma, I get kicked out too, but the cat sure wants to make friends with me on my way out! i have since moved to eating a lot of sardines that are already in mustard, tomato sauce, or my fave, the jalapeno hot sardines! I never realized they were really that good for me, just always liked the flavor! Great vids, thanks Dr. Berry!
Thanks Doc 👍👍👍
I can't do too much beef, i started gaining weight. I decided in December I'd focus on chicken fish and pork, I'm doing better now. it's also a bit cheaper
Fast
Thanks!
Dr. Berry should make a video on Omega 7 and 9 fats. Not well known, but pretty important
love the Ken Berry!
Thanks! 🙂
Thanks

Sardines are a winner at a very affordable price! The 3:6 ratio is not the greatest, but still OK; around 1 : 2.5.
Dr. Berry, what do you think about Dr. Gundry’s, Plant Paradox Diet?
Thank you for the videos, I will be going Keto this upcoming week.
Sadly, I have read that oysters are also high in the heavy metal, cadmium.

Sorry just realized this was posted months ago. Hope you managed to find help
Question: my mom’s been on Keto religiously for about 8 months now and her recent blood work came back amazing, EXCEPT for her ALT. Her weight has stabilized and she is no longer losing weight( she’s a healthy weight now for a few months now). It suddenly shot up from a normal level us to a high level, around 45 or 50, and her doctor wants her to stop Keto bc they think Keto might be actually giving her fatty liver disease. Is elevated ALTs after being on Keto for a while normal? And if so, how does she get it back down to normal?
Thanks Dr. Berry, have a great new year!
Any updates??
Very good question
Dr Berry
Hope you’ll answer this Been on Keto diet going on three weeks. Is it ok to donate blood or should I wait for my body adjust to Keto
Happy New Year
Which is the best grassfed butter? Everyone says kerrygold but I heard they don’t grassfed them all year
Man o man, I love me some Sardines and everything else on this list but Sardines are my go to as well as Kipper snacks 😊
I’m trying to find out if balance of nature veggie pills are good to take while on Keto? I find myself on the road a lot and it’s hard to get broccoli or spinach at the bbq or burger joint… wondering what your thoughts are on the veggie pills. Thanks for all the great info.
I tried the cod liver oil you suggested. It is very good!
I'm having a horrible time getting my a1c down. :'(
Thank you for providing so much critical health info. I don't like fish but I am I am able to stomach Cod once in awhile. Where does this rank in Omega 3?
Cod LIVER is high in O-3s.
Think, cod liver oil.
Dr. Berry, great info. I am convinced of the health benefits of wild game. How does the DHA/EPA/ALA profile look for Deer, Elk and Bison? Hard to find fresh sardines, herring and mackerel here in Rocky Mountains. Will canned forms of these fish still provide good DHA/EPA benefit?
Trout
Wild game would be pastured so higher in O-3s, yes
Canned fish is great
Dr, Berry - When you speak of the 6 to 3 ratio is that ratio measured in grams? As in Omega 6 food product in grams to Omega 3 food product in grams? I have read some want that ratio at 1:1 which seems difficult to do (if its in grams) without supplementing with a fish oil. Thank you!
Thank you. Great video. Are you concerned about mercury/heavy metal toxins from fish?
