    Had the Federation mined the wormhole and established a solid military alliance with the Klingons and the Romulans the day the Dominion took over the Cardassian Union, they could have won the war faster and with much fewer casualties. Instead, they allowed the Dominion to estalish a foothold and become the dominant super-power in the Alpha Quadrant before they took action. It's like the Trek writers all read Sun Tzu's 'Art of War' and thought 'What is the exact opposite of what he would advise?'

    • @NickDaGamer1998
      @NickDaGamer1998 Před 2 měsíci

      Well that's a pretty daft argument don't you think? Not to mention that the writers WROTE the story that way with the express idea of the war being a plot arc lol

    • @johncmeyer5832
      @johncmeyer5832 Před měsícem

      There are a million ways the Trek writers could have developed the Dominion War story arc and have it continue without having the Federation, Klingons, and Romulans blunder their way through the war. An obvious possibility would be a Dominion campaign in the Gamma Quadrant that brings them close to the Wormhole and prompts the Federation to form an alliance with the Klingons, Romulans, and Cardassians to stop the Dominion before they invade the Alpha Quadrant. A military expedition into the Gamma Quadrant could have been exciting and could have lasted multiple seasons. But developing a story arc based on incompetence is a lazy way to write. Furthermore, it made no sense. The Klingons and Romulans have large interstellar empires, you'd think they would know better than to fight a war of attrition against an enemy that uses clone soldiers. The Federation had a lot of enemies, you'd think they could prepare for war. As for almost losing a war against the Dominion, Jem'Hadarr can only subsist on one form of nourishment, an easy enough supply chain to break, and only two officers on Jem'Hadarr warships could see what was happening outside, lots of blind spots to exploit. A first year military academy cadet could come up with a thousand ways to defeat the Dominion and still have time to get to his next class.

    • @NickDaGamer1998
      @NickDaGamer1998 Před měsícem

      @@johncmeyer5832 Well, there are a few problems with that line of thinking.
      First off is that the Federation didn't even know how to properly mine the wormhole when the Dominion first appeared and there's nothing that could have stopped them from sending a few dud ships through then sending a fleet en masse if they really wanted to; obviously when the self-replicating mines were introduced that was a whole different ballgame. I'm also pretty sure there are a good few member species of the Federation who were more peace oriented and would massively protest the mining as (rightly so) an act of aggressive first strikes.
      As for an alliance between Klingons and Romulans with the Federation, well the Romulans would have flat-out sneered at the idea that the Dominion could affect their glorious empire so much, you forget how much effort it actually took to get them involved in the first place and how close they actually got to signing up with the Dominion as an ally. As for the Klingons, granted they would probably be begrudgingly accepting of the idea to go on an offensive campaign, but seeing as it would've just involved protecting the wormhole, I can't see them putting much manpower towards that effort because of the wormhole being in Bajoran space. But that's the biggest thing you're forgetting about a theoretical military expedition; the Federation ISN'T an aggressive alliance! In fact up until The Dominion War the next biggest war the Federation have had was the Earth-Romulan war some 200 year prior! The Feds have skirmishes often enough with outside species, but not a fully blown years lasting war.
      And as for the whole thing about winning the war faster, you're forgetting one massive thing: hindsight is 20:20. Of course looking back on what has happened is going to make you smack your head and go "why didn't they do X instead of Y?" If the Federation knew what the Dominion were going to do of course they would have done a lot better in a warring state. Arguing that the story arc was based on lazy writing due to the story unfolding for incompetence sake when it was based on real world policies is the maraschino cherry on top.
