I was bullied in my early twenties once when I told people I did this. Ten years later I come across this video and see it's normal and doctors do it. Thanks for sharing because it reminded me those people were just immature and sexist.
Sorry to read this ! Bullies are sad ,unhappy people anyway !! Who cares about what those miserable people feel / think about us !? Hoping you're having a FABULOUS day and evening !! 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💕💞
Paige, I feel exactly the same. A professional does it, too.
You have no idea how many girls does this because it’s not enough talked about but finally we’re getting into a era that we are being more open and not afraid to talk about
This is not so new. In other hand maybe those people just didn’t know this is a thing, don’t take every thing so personal, only makes you feel sad or mad all the time when others will forget about it almost immediately.
Especially being brown, i gotta do this a lott. No shame in it and its totally normal babe.
I am so pale that my black hair looks like I have an animal on my face. I hate it. Thanks for the tips. Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
me too! five oclock shadow!!!
I've been shaving my face for a few years. It DOES NOT grow back thicker or darker. Grows in as same peach fuzz. I love the way my face feels and the way my makeup goes on and looks afterwards.
YES !! A must to prepare for good make ups !! 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
it did me
@@hoppas77 Right ?
It did for me now im a hairy face and i get ingrowns
@etnie Really ? Strange . Ingrown hair is a lot to do with hormonal issues ,too I believe ? I could be wrong ,though.
Took a selfie in the arizona desert sun and GIRL the way that sun highlighted every little peach fuzz and hair on my face i was mortified. It was then that I started dermaplaning my face once or twice a month! I never realized just how much fuzz I had on my face😳
Thanks for this! I've been shaving my face for a few years- there's nothing like the feeling of that smooooth skin! I have mature skin, and before I started shaving, I felt like no makeup, tinted moisturizer, etc. looked good- it all kind of made my skin look worse! Shaving gets rid of the peach fuzz and also exfoliates the dry dead skin cells that take so long to turn over at my age! Great video
I am 76 and shave my face just like she does. I only do it every few mos. but it's amazing. The hair grows back as peach fuzz it is not course or darker as you might think. I probably should do it more often perhaps once a week in fact, since I still work full time and want to look my best, I'm going to start doing it every week. Try it ladies you will not be disappointed.
God bless you are still working!
Finally! Someone mentioned the treatment of peach fuzz on the face especially as you hit your 40s, 50s, and up. Strange things happen to hair in general after menopause, and part of my journey was an increase in peach fuzz. For me, I prefer to wash my face as usual (no triple washing for me), and I use a pretty, pink electric shaver. Afterward, I still get to see the fuzz when I clean out my razor. I do use isopropyl alcohol...to clean my shaver. I've not experienced any ingrown hair, and I don't have to spend $ on all those cleansers. Your skin is lovely btw. So's mine =D
@@Kimber123so are you saying that your facial hair got more noticeable and darker after shaving once?
@@smollilbean No, I don't believe so. They say that doesn't happen. I was just joking about noticing a 'beard.' After I watched this video, I looked in the mirror to see if I had anything cuz I never noticed anything before.
I’m starting to go through menopause now & the hair changes are definitely strange lol.
Would you please share what electric shaver you use?
Hi Dr. Sam, I’ve been shaving my face for over a year now. I don’t do it often, but I’m glad to hear shaving a dry face is acceptable because I really felt that works best for me. You gave some really great tips, such as washing 2/3 times. I’ll be sure to adjust accordingly! I laughed when you said see your dermatologist because where I am it’s a 6 month wait at times. I’m trying to convince my 16 year old to study dermatology. The world needs more of you!
Had to laugh bc I saw my derm for annual in December & they told me to call in May for Dec. appointment, called yesterday!!!! Also only 2 derms on my insurance in my huge county in NY, 1 sucks!!! Hope your daughter does become one, she'll make $$$$😂
My sister has been shaving since her 20s, is 69 now and her skin is amazing! My skin is great , too, but hers is better. I started shaving a year ago and think is improved even more.
Saw this and went and bought one 😂I am 58 blonde peach fuzz so I never noticed, but those chin hairs are course and black and too many to pull out with tweezers .so after my first go I am blown away , it's amazing and I just posted about it on Facebook for the world I couldn't care less who knows
I love comprehensive demos!!! More of these please!!
I had those shavers, then having no idea proper way to use them! You’re such a godsend. TYVM!
It’s about that time for me to do a facial shave. I just had my yearly actina keratosis treatment last month and won’t do anything while my skin is healing. This video was so timely. It’s good to know we have the same dry skin routine and the only thing I will add now is the 3rd micellar water cleanse. I try to shave the night before I won’t be wearing any makeup the next day. I just wear a soothing moisturizer and sunscreen. Thank you.
Thanks I’ll share w my teen. She had acne so glad you mentioned not shaving over acne.
Thank you! My HMUA artist recommended I do this step before my wedding, and your tutorial was so easily broken down and helpful!!
Thank you. Really appreciate that info about hair not growing thicker by shaving. Whew. It’s very good tip for smooth skin 👍🏼
I have been shaving my face awhile, but I learned some tips not only about prep before but after. I am older and it seems my hair grows back faster but I always think of my Dad who used to say (he was scraping his face) because we are. I think the exfoliating of shaving is what keeps men’s face looking good if they do nothing else. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing. Had the blades in my drawer for weeks now, just didn’t know how to use them! With your tips I just gave it a go, I cannot stop looking at my face in the mirror now, it’s so smooth ❤
This video is excellent. Your directions were clear and very helpful.
This procedure is very personal and, thankfully, very optional. I can appreciate that many women will have good reason to do it. Maybe I’ll give it a shot, but at 65 I’ve never felt self conscious about peach fuzz. Thank you for this.
Thank you for this video. I’m afraid to try, but you explained the process so well and showed us exactly how to do it. I have placed order and ready to try.
Thank you for your video, I’m 54 with strawberry blonde hair have had the peach fuzz for ever. It’s always bothered me when wearing makeup. Thanks to you I’m going for it, I’m going to shave for the 1st time!!!
I feel like I’ve been waiting years for a demo like this from a skin expert…thx!❤
I am SO FUZZY! I have been petrified to try this out of fear of it coming back darker / thicker/ longer! Thank you so much for this video!!!!!!
Hair coming in thicker after shaving is a old wives tale.
But mine does come back thicker n darker I've been doing this for a very long time on my neck now I have to literally use a dry razor on my neck.. I can't imagine with my face
Shaving doesn't make hair come in darker/thicker. Hormones affect body/facial hair. I developed thick hairs when I went through menopause
Thank you so much!! I’ve been needing to do this, and was scared until I watched your video!! ❤
I absolutely love shaving my face! thanks for the tips!
I really appreciate your advice.....I've only just started shaving my face and have loved the results.
I just started too about 3 months ago and absolutely love it! My face is so smooth afterwards. I wash my face as normal, I then apply rosehip oil & shave. Afterwards I wash my face again and apply my moisturizer.
I've never shaved my face. I didn't even know that was a thing for women until recently. I don't wear makeup either but would like my facial products to penetrate my skin better. Will definitely try this at home.
This is the best instructional vid on shaving your face that I have ever seen. I already shave, but I learned from you that I need to modify my ways. Your helpful tips will ensure I have a much better outcome. Appreciate you and your expertise very much!
Dr. Alexis Stephens also has a really helpful one, too!
I’m happy to know I’m not the only one that shaves my face!😍
Thanks for this video!
You are so gorgeous - just as beautiful after you washed your face. Your skin looks AMAZING!!
I just started shaving my face. I was always told that if you do this your hair grows back thicker. Of late on YT I have seen influencers talk about shaving their face. I happened upon your video. I am so pleased I did because I learned a great deal about how to shave. Thanks for sharing this.
Didn’t know that you could use oil! Great tutorial!
I’ve never seen your channel before & I love it. Also, your bone structure……not fair. Lol! It’s gorgeous!
I started to get more vellus hair after I turned 41. I'm just gonna keep it though as I don't mind. A dermatologist IRL told me that it plays a big part in protecting your skin from pollution as well!
Thanks for showing the right way to dermaplane
Well! I frickin did it. I've been avoiding it for some time but your tutorial made it seem safe. Let's hope that's the case.
This is the best video on face shaving! I used to shave my face and then went to waxing. Now that I'm on Retin A I can't wax anymore, so it's back to shaving. You gave some awesome tips! It's amazing how soft your skin can feel after shaving like that! And i agree - it is SO satisfying to see the hair and gunk come off your skin. I love that part! ❤
It took me some sessions to get the hang of this cause it feels different than shaving legs or ampits and now I see what all the hype is about. My face feels amazing!!! So soft, like it can breathe, looks nice, smooth, and the moisturizer absorbed in better. A nice tingle. Love it. This was the best video I saw on it...followed the steps. Also cleansed my face first more thoroughly than normal. Feel like came from a spa or a facial. Used Walgreens brand of razors that looks just like this called Touch Up Razors. Wow, exfoliation feels great. Makes me wanna try body scrub.
That video was amazing for dermaplaning the first time! I watched beforehand and again as I did it - pausing along the way - and it went seamlessly. Thank you so much!
It's not really dermaplaning, you have to do that as a medical procedure in an office.
That was terrific. Well done and very helpful.
Leaf Shaver now offers a Dermaplainer razor with replacement heads similar to their other razors that decreases the plastic being disposed.
Loved this video! Started my face shaving routine today and you helped tons ❤ getting my husband on board next, can't wait for better skin ❤
Thank you Dr. Sam very helpful this is going to be my first time. I’m a little nervous but I’m glad to have your guidance
Ive done this for years, because i dont want to grow a beard. There was a really nice lady in town but bless her had a full beard i know now it was a medical issue but it made me very aware of the fuzz on my face
Literally just had a commercial pop up saying that the hair will grow back thicker and darker every time you shave!
I am 73 and have never heard about women shaving or dermaplaning their face. I have seen aestheticians over the years and no one ever mentioned this. Thanks for talking about this. I may go have a professional dermaplaning now.
I use my cleansing oil to shave, I do a nice massage first, I find my sensitive skin feels much more comfortable using this technique, no actives afterwards just a hydrating serum and a thick night cream, I do once a month.
But wouldnt it create a beard? To shave?? I mean then the hair would grow stronger right? And if your husband touches your face it will have like... a man's texture 😳
@@Agape122 I understand what you are saying, but women do not really have this issue. 😊
@@Agape122 Shaving does not cause hairs to grow in thicker. That is a myth. Hairs may appear thicker, but that is only because you've shaved off the thin end of the shaft and so that particular hair looks like it's growing in bigger. In reality, it is not bigger. Also, it will eventually fall out and be replaced with a hair of the same size, not a bigger one
@@raerohan4241 but if the hair apears thicker doesnt it create a raspy texture on your face like a man?
@Dream Catchers, the “peach fuzz” type hair still feels soft as it grows back in. But if you shave the hair on upper lip or chin, or eyebrows, it does feel rougher as it begins to grow back in.
I've been shaving my face and neck for about 20 years now (I'm 58) and I use a men's razor and shaving cream (to avoid the "pink tax"). But I really like these techniques too because it seems much gentler. My chin hair is naturally thick and hard so I often have to cover the same area multiple times with the razor to get all the hair off. This can aggravate my skin though so I'll try these tips. Thanks so much! :)
I always use men’s razors. I feel like they work better as well as being a little cheaper.
I found a great battery powered face shaver for women. On Amazon, it’s pink and the reviews were good so I bought it. It’s great. No razors, wax, etc. it’s so easy it’s a relief.
THANK YOU!!! my skin looks and feels fantastic!! will definitely refer to this video again.
I've been waxing my face for years, never tried shaving. It would be easier to shave but I guess regrowth will happen faster? Great instructive video, thank you, Dr Sam.
Just tried this as per your instructions and my face feels soooo soft!! Thanks for all the great tips
Hey how was the hair growth after shaving?did u had any breakouts?
@@whenboredomstrikes6738 I’m not super prone to breakouts anyways but nothing noticeable. The only time I noticed breakouts were when I did it after the holidays when I had already been consuming a ton of sugar. So the breakout was more diet based rather than shaving. Hair hasn’t been any noticeably thicker either.
Great tips! Thank for showing your cleasing routine too. ❤
I shaved my face dry in the last 5 years and maybe once every 3-4 weeks, I agreed with Ann, it doesn't grow back thicker or darker. Love your video!
No and neither does the hair on your legs but I’d no sooner shave those than my face.
Has it helped you face look smoother and younger?
Yes, with or without make up, the skin looks so clean!@@lilarose9348
Awesome video!! Thank you!!!
I am so glad I ran across this video, I have so much peach fuzz that I never noticed until a few days ago when the sun was in my face ( just as you said) I have never done it because I always thought It would grow back thicker, thank you so much for clarifying :):):)
I shaved my face once! I will never do it again! The stumble was horrible! Better to wax or just leave it alone!
WOW, I’m 52 and I’ve never shaved my face so I really needed this video. I’ve had my face waxed numerous times though, but not sure how much of a difference these 2 are? I happen to have a pack of the razor you used so now I’m going to cautiously try it. Thanks for a great tutorial today!
Thank you so much! Great getting this information from a professional.
I finally did it, thanks to your video. (A gf shaves and I thought she was crazy. I get it.) Since I could not find your brand of razors, I found a set by Revlon at CVS. My heart was beating so fast, but mission accomplished! I applied Cica products after shaving because Cica has been very calming for my skin. I am eager to see if my skincare products will be more effective AND if make up will go on easier.
Thank you, Dr. Ellis!
I wrote my comment before watching entire video.. you answered my question! Great video ❤
me too! i’ve been shaving my face for 30 years , once or twice a week 😊
Thank you for sharing this info with the youngs. I learned 30 years ago that Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor (and many other film stars) shaved regularly because of the makeup they had to wear and the way peach fuzz photographs. I get by with every 3-4 weeks and very seldom see clogged pores. Grrl power, spread the word!
I've shaved my face once a month ever since you mentioned it a while back. I finish with an AHA and never is my skin nicer than the next day.
💕
What is an AHA?
@@mycharmedunicorn8715 alpha hydroxy acid...lactic, mandelic, glycolic. They are chemical exfoliants.
I tried it out last night. I didn’t have the right razors. I always find I’m a little itchy afterwards. But what I did get feels a lot softer. Next time it will be more of a success!
After dermaplaning, my skin felt clammy and wet constantly for about 2 weeks, even without any skincare products on after cleansing. My husband touched my forehead and said, "Ew, gross. What did you do? Why are you slimy?" Then, the stubble-feel started, which lasted about a week. It's been about 6 weeks, and my beautiful peach fuzz is nearly back. I'll be keeping it! I may do my upper lip and side of my nose now and then, but the rest of it will be staying. My makeup does not look better without the peach fuzz - it looks weird and unnatural. Everyone is different. Glad I tried it - now I know it's not for me. And I'm embracing the fuzz!
S0 glad i read this. Validating!
This video just came across .y feed for whatever reason and I'm floored that so many women are doing it....we aren't men!!! That peach fuzz is our God give protection from the daily elements, same as the hair on our arms (even though we shave our legs lol) At some point all of these women will wish they never tried it because who know down the road what skin issues they may encounter🤦♀️ I'm soooo glad you stopped! 🙏💖
I'm glad you noted that everyone's different because it's so true! For me it works really well - I've been shaving for about a decade. Mine grows back soft and my skin is softer and less likely to have pimples when I shave regularly. I'm glad you tried it and decided it wasn't for you rather than just writing it off!

NEW SUBSCRIBER. AWESOME, AWESOME VIDEO! THANK YOU! I'm 66 years old and just started shaving my face about 2 months ago. Shaved it only a few times. I purchased a Philips bikini, face, and body battery-powered shaver. It comes with an 8mm and a 26mm touch-up attachment. Should I continue using it or do I need to use the Tinkle or Schick razors instead? You answered all of my questions. Love how you get to the point and demonstrate what, why, how, when, and what if. I was concerned about thicker hair growing back, whether I'm shaving it correctly, how often to shave, how to shave it, how to care for it before and after shaving, what products to use, when to shave it, what to shave it with....so many questions. YOU answered all of them. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!! My face looks still like it has lots of dead skin. My skin is sensitive, so I used aloe vera gel to calm it down after I shave. I apologize for this lengthy comment, but I WANT YOU TO KNOW JUST HOW MUCH YOU HAVE HELPED ME!!! Can't wait to see how much better my face looks in a few months. I wish I knew a way to shave the hair from the nape of my neck. I use two mirrors just to tidy it up but it doesn't look neat enough. Any suggestions without having to go to the barbershop? THANK YOU.
I was just thinking today that I need to watch a video on how to properly dermaplane, and youtube delivered. Amazing. I've done it a few times on my own and done alright, but I wanted a proper tutorial. Thanks so much for this! Crazy helpful.
Thanks for step by step. I needed this video
Thank you for a very useful, practical video.
I have a hormonal master, it is embarrassing, I use wax strips to use at home, while I’m at it, I do my area, (side’s of my face) I love how smooth my face looks. and them my moistures and creams that work for my skin. Thank you for your tips, I’m going to try your way also. 71 year old active woman.
I used to have a lot of hair on my forearms until I hit perimenopause in my late 40s. And then virtually overnight - no more arm hair! Suddenly something I was self-conscious of all my life was no longer an issue! Same with pretty much all of my body hair - leg, armpit, and pubic - it's all but disappeared! EXCEPT.... IT RELOCATED TO MY FACE! LOL! Nature sucks.... Anyways, I have never shaved my face because I was always afraid it would come back thicker or I'd end up with a 5'oclock shadow. So this video is GREAT NEWS!! I am going to try shaving my peach-fuzzy cheeks and upper lip! I'll keep tweezing my chin, cuz those hairs are coarse and are getting fewer and fewer anyways over the years, and are quite satisfying to pull out by the roots...
Renee, those hairs on your chin aren't from your body. They are just your eyebrows finding a new place to grow...🤣

Thank you for this, i was thinking to try this but wasn’t sure what technique to use. The red light mask was a bit weird to see on video but it looks like it works, lol. You are very beautiful and remind me of Carolyn Bessette, one of my personal style icons!
Thanks for sharing this video with me. Love it!!!
Thank you so much for your video. I have been aghast at the amount of hair coming in on my face and no one is taking me seriously on my distress. Electrolysis is just too expensive. This will work!!!!!
THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT IT DOES NOT GROW BACK THICKER I CAN FINALLY SHOW MY MOM THAT SHAVING MY FACE DOESNT MAKE IT WORSE💪
This was so helpful. I bought a blade a while ago but haven't used it yet as I was nervous! I have PCOS so peach fuzz is one thing, but there are also the black under chin hairs and on the upper lip. Your video was so informative its given me more confidence to try it. Thank you! ❤

Thank you for this great video! I've been wanting to go do microblading at my estethician's, but was hesitant, plus it could be pricey, but now that I can see I can do it at home, I'm going to give it a try, it doesn't look that complicated! Thank you! Just ordered the blades!
Where did u order the blades and how did u know which ones to order ?
You mean “dermaplaning”…not “microblading”-that is coloring your eyebrows! 😉🤓
Great video! Thank you so much! I wish your practice was in NH.😉
Thanks! This really helps. I have dermatitis prone skin. Im actually currently on cyclosporine for my dermatitis. But…. A side effect of cyclosporine is excessive hair growth. So even though I have really fair hair, it’s coming through faster and thicker in some areas. I’ve tried shaving a few times, but every time I get a break of the next day. Definitely doing it wrong. I will follow your advice and see how I go 😊
The small battery operated personal shavers for eyebrows etc work great and i like them better than the disposable shavers.
I've been shaving my face, arms, and legs for years. It does NOT grow back thicker, but it can seem like it did after a few days. Wait a few more. . .and it's the same as before. I think also the fact that you hear your whole life that it will grow back thicker is something like a placebo affect. If you believe something will be, you find that it is.
I learned from You Tuber Kerry Lou, a makeup artist, that you can actually use a regular razor and cream to shave your face. It’s super easy and gets everything off. It’s best to use a new blade. Great tip to do at night followed by LED mask! Thanks for highlighting this.
Dr Dray has said that in a video as well.
@maureenturk8578 can I ask why the LED mask? Will this help with the hair not growing back in?
i use a surgical blade to shave mine, and i’ve actually had less knicks with the sharper blade than a facial razor as you stated 😊 i prefer dry shaving as well!
I just bought a dermaplaning tool from Brandluxe & it resembles a nice straight razor but obviously a smaller blade. It works so much better than the cheaper plastic tools. It’s like a regular blade & doesn’t have those weird grooves that the disposable face razors usually have. I love it. I also prefer doing it dry.
great resource!! thank you!!
Thank you. You answered so many questions that I had.
... Great demo... wish she was my dermatologist.
I also do my jawline and neck. There’s more peach fuzz under my jaw than anywhere else. It’s the best finish for me. Thank you for this video.
I just asked about neck hair I have peach fuzz and hair on my neck , which direction do you find best for the neck area
Hope you don’t mind me asking. Take care
@@karencurtis6141 Gently downward. But I also feel for hair vs smooth. Be super gentle. Neck skin is pretty tender. The under jaw both up and down, oh so gently and carefully.
i was looking for advice on this-- thanks!
Make sure to ideally go in the direction of the hair growth to avoid any ingrown and provide less irritation. :)
I think the hair grows back myth comes from misunderstanding what happens. Before you shave, you have soft hairs that are thin on the ends. Also, your hairs are different lengths. When you shave, everything is the same length and the hairs are wider with sharp edges. It's understandable that people will say this is more hair because it can feel that way. I think if it were explained this way, people would be able to understand. Just saying "it doesn't" won't make a difference because it contradicts their lived experience.
I’ve always been scared to try this, as a dark hair/pale faced woman, I’d wax my upper lip and eyebrows. I was always thinking it would grow back thicker. I rarely wear makeup, but now I’m 50 and I’m going to start trying this to make my face moisturizer work its best. Thank you so much!!
Looks good for exfoliating the peach fuzz
Sensitive skin here and I use Vaseline as the shaving barrier between my skin and the blade-works great! Before that I did dry shaving and broke out so highly recommend Vaseline!
Noooo don’t put Vaseline on your face! It’s basically petrol. Pretty much any kind of natural origin facial oil would be better than that, even just simple sweet almond oil.
