      Actually, I think he unknowingly has a bias against his home park. I think Kings Dominion is far better than he gives it credit for. It may be the best Cedar Fair park, but he probably doesn't see it that way because he has gone there so much. He doesn't realize what a gem it is. I have made visits in 2018 & 2021, and those 5 combined days are among my favorite 5 days at any park. I have more fun there than at Cedar Point.

    Canadas wonderland REALLY deserves more love. 90% of their coasters are way overhated, in terms of cedar fair they are unmatched in the atmosphere department, and to me they blow Carowinds out of the water for the atmosphere and flat rides collection alone. I think it deserves to be a solid number 3 on this list, not middle of the road where it always seems onto end up.

    I'm always surprised at how under invested Dorney is. It's a short drive from NYC and Philly and even though there's a lot of local competition, there's still a lot of market to tap. When Great Adventure and Hershey get 3 million visits + a year, it's so strange that there's not a push to make this a more formidable player.

    • @kirblar
      @kirblar Před 2 lety +5

      I think it's because of how much competition is in the area- far more ROI when investing in a park like Carowinds where theres no other players in the region than when you have gigantic competitors to your east and west.

    Worlds of Fun is themed after the Jules Verne novel Around the World in 80 Days. Themed areas of the park include the following continents: Americana, Europa, Africa, Scandinavia and Orient.
    “We chose the large, multicolored ascension balloon for our symbol because it represents fun, adventure and travel reminiscent of the movie, Around the World in 80 Days. These are the things we want Worlds of Fun to represent.” - Jack Steadman, 1971. (park opened in '73)

    This list drastically needs to be updated in the coming years. Many things have changed even with the merger Cedar Fair still invested in the smaller parks which I assume would jump up a bit. Nice list, I agree with most of the rankings on here.

  • @thefactsarethese3668
    @thefactsarethese3668 Před 2 lety +13

    I can't disagree too much with the list, but I have some thoughts:
    -Worlds of Fun's aesthetics are truly underrated.
    -Valleyfair has its merits, but has an awful layout and honestly I'd rather be at MOA. It's less generic than Dorney or MIA but is otherwise fairly unremarkable. (What struck me also is that the park is weirdly in the middle of nowhere, not quite MIA but very hidden for a major amusement park. You'd never find it if you didn't know where to go.)
    -Carowinds has some great rides, but those great rides lead it to be a bit overrated by most enthusiasts at the moment (and I say that as someone who has had Fury at my #1 at times). Compare the atmosphere of Carowinds to Kings Dominion and there's just no comparison for me.
    -Cedar Point is absolutely the number one park on paper; however, there are persistent issues (staffing, restrooms in desperate need of renovation, FL cost/amount sold, operations just aren't where they were during Kinzel's time, etc.) that they seem to continue to struggle to solve; not all of them are necessarily their fault, but I'm not fully confident that they will be fixed anytime soon. Whereas Kings Island has made undeniable progress in every area that was previously holding them back and only seems poised to continue making improvements.
    Canada's Wonderland is the only "proper" CF park I haven't been to, but here's how I'd rank the rest:
    1. Kings Island
    2. Cedar Point
    3. Knott's
    4. Kings Dominion
    5. Carowinds
    6. Worlds of Fun
    7. CGA
    8. Valleyfair
    9. Dorney
    10. MIA

      What is KI cost, ride wait, etc compared to CP? Ive heard CP has gotten ridiculously crowded and pricey even more so than the hundreds of times I went there as a 90s kid. I also have some young relatives who moved to Central Ohio from Cleveland & KI seems like a much better option now for them

    • @Coasterteam
      @Coasterteam Před 2 lety

      @@fredwilson1188 KI is still a smaller park compared to CP, based on mere ride count alone. KI is around the same price as Cedar Point, but has significantly less wait times. One can make the argument that there is no equivalent of Steve, Maverick, Millie, or Dragster at KI, but there's also no equivalent of Mystic, Beast, Diamondback, or Flight of Fear at CP. Not that KI doesn't get as busy as CP, as last Halloween Haunt had some of the busiest days ever at both KI and CP.
      Some additional prices, last season FLP at CP on a Saturday was $249, while only $125 at KI (sometimes even $105 on a Saturday!) I feel like the value of it is much higher at KI than CP because the merge point/FL line is much closer to the station or right up to the station entirely. KI is also a lot more terrain based, while CP is much flatter. You'll be walking up and down hills in the Rivertown section and in the middle of the park.
      To give more of an idea on the wait times, here's a few examples.
      October 16th 2021 (one of, if not the busiest day, of the season), KI: queue-times.com/en-US/parks/60/calendar/2021/10/16
      CP: queue-times.com/en-US/parks/50/calendar/2021/10/16
      July 14th: KI: queue-times.com/en-US/parks/60/calendar/2021/07/14
      queue-times.com/en-US/parks/50/calendar/2021/07/14
      The wait times can vary each day, some days CP may be a ghost town while KI is packed, or flipped, or both. Generally, you'll see shorter lines at KI just because it's more of a regional park than a destination park (CP).

      I completely agree with this. I had to laugh when Taylor said guest experience. Cedar Point lately has let me down in cleanliness and environment. I fret to use the bathrooms here just because of how dirty they’ve been at times. Then I turn around and go to Kings Island (CP is about an hour drive for me, KI is about 3.5) and the two negatives of CP become positives. Cleanliness is there, and the atmosphere of the park is just leaps and bounds above CP. From the view of someone who’s going to these two parks for the first time, I can see why so many people have CP at their first spot, but as a familiar person to both of these parks, I’d have to give KI the number one spot!

It was a Thursday and completely sunny with no wind, but only 7 coasters were open for the first 4 hours. Needless to say the park was pure chaos with those 7 coasters pulling at least a 20 minute fast lane wait. The only thing I accomplished that day was riding Magnum a few times as well as getting my last rides on Wicked Twister. Here to point out one other park - if this is a “trip of a lifetime” style trip, you can be a little flexible with scheduling, and you like how Dollywood seems, I strongly recommend giving a look to Busch Gardens Williamsburg.
      Everything that’s incredible about Dollywood is also present at BGW, and I’d argue BGW does it even better (this is a compliment to BGW, not a slight at Dollywood). The only park on this list I would even *consider* putting ahead of BGW is Cedar Point.
      Oh, and it’s only about an hour away from Kings Dominion. So very easy to add from a logistics standpoint.

Yes, I'll say it louder for the CP Fan Boys Orion is better than Millie, Banshee blows Raptor out the water, Diamondback is on par with Magnum, and Mystic Timbers minus the Shed holds it's own with Maverick. The supporting cast of Coasters is better IMO also even though not as unique. Valravn and Gatekeeper aren't even the best B&M Dive and Wing Coasters on the market. Being a Cedar Fair Platinum passholder and living in the middle of the state in Columbus, I would kindly disagree with your #1 and #2 order. The reason behind this is due to the waterpark at KI being included with admission for those without season passes. If it is a hot day - it gives you quite a great opportunity to cool off when lines aren't the top priority.
    We have towed our camper to and stayed at both and while Lake Erie is a beautiful destination in itself, that just doesn't make up for the all inclusive nature of KI. Thank you for the ranking - by the way we were USOAP and Dollywood passholders over the past couple years and I must say, Dollywood is a dud but with some decent roller coasters (though 1 is too violent to enjoy) - USO while not a dud - has far less thrill rides than KI or CP for what it's worth. Keep riding and writing!

Orion is amazing, Mystic Timbers is incredible, Diamondback is fantastic. CP only beats it with gatekeeper, Maverick and steel Vengeance

    To go along with your comment about needing more than one day at Cedar Point, it is my home park and I absolutely agree. I always just do day trips, but I almost never get on everything and I very rarely get too many rides in one day. My most ridden coaster is Millennium but at only 63. My most rides on the same coaster in one day is only 6, and it was because I kept spamming Wicked Twister towards the end of the night after its closure was announced.

    Kings Island is now the top of the food chain in my opinion for friendliness, operations and overall better experience. In 10 years, Action Zone will look completely different and Vortex land will have a new coaster by 2025. 4 coasters in 13 years is my prediction. 3 going in all that land after some things are removed from Invertigo all the way snaking to the back of Banshee, The Bat has 5 to 8 years. Invertigo has 2, Amazon Falls, Congo Falls has 1-2 , Timberwolf has 1 and lo and behold a completely transformed Action Zone. By 2032, Kings Island will be the Coaster Capital with a better collection than CP.

    Hey, you met me by hydra’s cobra roll! I really wanna defend Dorney park here. It’s a great place for what it is in my opinion. It’s my home park so I go there somewhat often. It really seems like it depends on how the day is overall. The coaster collection isn’t half bad. I think the park does actually have some pretty sections like the demon drop area, the thunderhawk path, and the area by thunder creek mountain and thunder canyon that no one goes to. It feels good to be around there. I mean this in the most unironic way possible, planet snoopy is my favorite area. It’s a nice place to walk though and it’s in the middle of the park so yeah. Something else about that atmosphere is that it’s vastly improved during haunt. The park is very popular then, and all the dead areas that feel empty suddenly have hundreds of people. It makes the park feel great. Don’t get me wrong, Dorney is definitely in the lower tier of cedar fair parks, but I feel like you did it a little dirty right next to michigans adventure. But then again, there isn’t really a middle ground between Dorney and michigans adventure. I guess that means that Dorney at number 10 makes the others look a lot better :)

    Kings Dominion is my # 1 Cedar Fair park! It has my favorite top 2 of any park, and I always have such a great time there. Cedar Point clearly has the better overall coaster lineup, but the extremely long lines bump it down a couple notches in my book. I have not gone to Kings Dominion on a weekend, but I have never seen a line there, which makes for such a great experience. Kings Island can have some slower days (if rain is in the forecast), but it's usually very busy, and assigned seating on all coasters knocks it down some. Plus, they have no Intamins nor an RMC.
