Music Teacher Reacts | REN - Murderer (Acoustic)
Oh man, I love REN!!
What is going on, Renegades!? Thanks for introducing yourself to me and the channel! It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know this artist and seeing all the new things he puts out. Honestly, even the old material since it is all new to me!
We went after the acoustic version of this song because there were many issues with the original one and some blocks happening for this type of video. As a result, here we are! But those of you that know me probably remember that I love these versions anyways.
Thanks for watching!

Yeah you got it, Ren is a Student of Hip Hop and it was a Nod to Dr Dre and Snoop Dog Next Episode as this was Filmed in L.A.
Personally I think he knew that I hate that feeling of being manipulated, he should just play it with a straight bat when doing reactions, it’ll serve him better in the long run.
Nobody wants to be mugged off!
@@supertuscans9512 I get your point it’s hard to know who’s being honest with reactions these days
And he visited Dre’s studio while in LA
That makes it even less credible that an expert guitar professor, who’s visited Dre’s studio, doesn’t recognise one of the most famous riffs from hip-hop when let’s be be honest, there really aren’t that many of those.
@@supertuscans9512 i think @tomsmith was saying REN VISITED THERE, not this Reactor. Ren was here in the USA on a short vacation when he recorded this video in LA Cali.
Ren is a member of a band called The Big Push. If your haven't checked them out, you must. A great entry point is their live street performance of "I Shot The Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop". Look for the version with Ren in the red suspenders.
This one. Definitely do this one.
Yup, do that!
Yup ditto
Agree with this
Dr. Dre, "Next Episode". The intro (which was not in the studio version) was from "World A Reggae" by Ini Kamoze and later used by Damian Marley for "Jam Rock". The way he says 'murderer' in the rest of the song comes from the song "Murderer" by Barrington Levy. The rest of the song is him.
The intro was from Welcome to Jamrock but Ini Kamoze did use it.
@@billsturm9225wrong way around. The line was written by Ini Kamoze in "World a Music" over 20 years before Damien Marley sampled it for "Welcome to Jamrock"
Ok, give this one a try. It's a mashup of "I Shot The Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop" as only Ren and The Big Push could do it. This is a fantastic example of some of his range that you haven't seen yet. (I don't think?) czcams.com/video/uSeCuR51rek/video.html
If you can't use the link for some reason, look for the version where he's wearing red suspenders. There are a few and this one has the most versatility, IMO.
What is often forgotten about Ren is that he is still unwell and getting constant treatment. Imagine what a healthy Ren can achieve!
As many have said , he can play... The playing with Big Push is pure joy and emotion from the guitar. He also with Sam Tomkins in Mans Wolrd\Falling does live looping (which also singing and beatboxing..) There is not an instrument he cant make sing
He is a fantastic guitarist. Some of his busking videos as part of The Big Push band has him soloing with his base. My favorite is his busking with Sam Tompkins. They fo a mash up of Earned it/ a Man's World/ Falling. He and Sam arw both outstanding!
Watch the Tale of Jenny and Screech (full) for excellent guitar playing and hard hitting storytelling, in 3 related tales each shot on the streets in one take. Masterful! Am I right in thinking you haven't seen Hi Ren either? If not, you won't regret it!
He's reacted to both of those.🙂
@@vickyterry3150 yes, I just saw! They're not on his Ren playlist so I didn't realise initially
@@KittyInTheGarden Oh, that's a shame! They were both great reactions.
@@eryksun Yes, me too...but in fairness, he probably listens to a LOT of music, and it's hard to remember all the details, I'm sure. Well, it would be for me. 😅
Ren's giving homage to Damian Marley's Welcome To Jamrock in his new opening. Yes sir, you got it, Ren gives homage to Dr. Dre on that riff from "Next Episode" ft. Snoop Dog. Also after the Toblerone line he say's "Beotch" on this track instead of "Bitch" which was in the original as a homage to Snoop Dog who made the pronunciation of that slang famous. All this is probibly because he's recording this in L.A while on vacation ❤🤯❤. Ren's guitar solo was also an homage to another one of Ren's musical influences Django Reinhardt, probibly one of the most famous Jazz guitarist, who if I'm not mistaken, was the 1st person to bring Jazz to the UK. That was very much a 30-40's Jazz riff reminiscent of Reinhardt's music..
Ren's such a good writer that everyone sleeps on how proficient he is on guitar.
And he learned to play ( more and better) from youtube! This kid has stolen my whole heart ❤
Some other performances that highlight his guitar skills are him and the band The Big Push, a mash up of them doing Wade In The Water/Trouble So Hard/Nina Simone. Ren playing lead bass complete with bass solo, it's pretty special and his voice sounds incredible. Also some great guitar playing from the rest of the band 👍
Really great reaction. Thanks. I just thought you'd like to know, but I'm 99.9% sure someone has probably already told you, that Ren taught himself how to play the guitar. 😁
May you check his band The Big Push
Clearly, you NEED to watch the Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full). Talk about vocal density and versatility...oh, and guitar? sheesh! Great reaction.
I thought the same.... Thinking he must not of seen Ren's guitar playing in the 3 Tales. But it seems he already did a reaction video for those 🤔
@@riverak61 I didn't see it in his Ren playlist!
I’ll say it because I don’t think it’s been mentioned…The Big Push - Wade in the water/Nina Simone/Trouble So Hard. Ren plays bass and sings, but the other guys in the band go off individually as well. Well worth a listen/watch.
DJ you have to check out Ren and Sam Tompkins Earned It/It's A Man's World/Falling.
If you REALLY want to see him WORK his guitar.
He has a call and response AND a solo from heck.
Plus he beatboxes.
Oh btw, it is a street performance in front of a church.
Yes! This! 👆💜
OHHHH, you have so much fun ahead of you with Ren playing guitar. Check out his cover of I Shot The Sheriff with The Big Push. (The video in which Ren is wearing red suspenders.)
Yes, it's a nod to Dr Dre Ren has absorbed every genre of music from every era including medievil drama so he will never run out of mixtures, tones and tastes to delight us with.
jumps from a django reindhart-esque solo to a dre nod...love the variety
Ren paid homage to Ini Kamoze's 'World a music' czcams.com/video/kLRfPBA0pWw/video.html,
Barrington Levy's 'Murderer' czcams.com/video/sFBcEz3_Zho/video.html,
possibly Damian Marley's Ini Kamoze cover 'Welcome to Jamrock' czcams.com/video/ux47IkkhGjY/video.html,
and Dr. Dre's 'The Next Episode feat. Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Nate Dogg' czcams.com/video/QZXc39hT8t4/video.html.
There might be more... ?!
EDIT TO ADD: "Beeotch" is usually attributed to Snoop Doggy Dogg.
Dre & Snoop are both L.A.-ish (Compton & Long Beach, respectively), but are major pioneers of the 'West Coast" rap scene ... which was, basically, L.A..
Ren likes leaving easter eggs in visuals, samples, and lyrics. Loved the music breakdown!
Watch Ren do his Bardcore with The Tales of Jenny & Skreech. It is a trilogy. You really get to see how well he plays guitar with that one.
If you want more of guitar Ren, his jam/improvisation sessions with Liv Sangster will be right up your alley! You'll also see it in a lot of his busking (street performance) sessions, both solo, with various collaborators and with his band, The Big Push. His guitar skills are also on display in the wonderful "Tale of Jenny and Screech (full)".
He plays about 10 different instruments well. About half of them really well. He's entirely self-taught. He taught himself when he was bedridden for about 7 years, due to his illnesses. In those moments when the pain was somewhat bearable, he'd practice playing, especially guitar and piano, he'd listen to music, compose, record and produce music, learning as he went along. He taught himself guitar, initially, by slowing down CZcams videos of Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante and other guitarists and try to replicate what they were doing. He has no formal training and no training in music theory. He says he sees the fretboard as an overlapping series of shapes and colours, that makes sense to him, even if to no one else. :)
You have to do Ren & chinchilla chalk outlines live version How to be me live. It’s a duet almost pop Ren. But that’s short changing it. Also Chinchilla sings like a Angel. Please go watch other side of him.
Another very intimate song in a similar setting is "for Joe"... It is heartbreakingly beautiful... And his stuff with chinchilla live is something to behold (How to be me, Chalk outlines). Great reaction, as always!
_Well done!!! Great reaction and breakdown! Love this piece! Ren is a phenomenon. 😊
He is amazing❤thank you great reaction.
I also like the nod to Django Reinhardt with the guitar break. He's one of Ren's favourites.
Ooh interesting reaction. First time listener. Off to see what other Ren stuff you have.👀😁💕👍🦇
Love this!
Loved your reaction ❤❤❤
Such a great reaction! Iv subbed and will check out more. Ren is my fave artist of all time! And yes it was a nod to DRE. I’m guessing because he was in LA and it was released on 50th anniversary of hip hop 🖤
PLEASE do the Tales Full version!!
Definitely check out his busking performance with Sam thompkins - covering Earned it/mans world and Falling- Ren goes absolutely crazy on the Guitar solo towards the end and you get to hear his vocal range during his rendition of Man's world. 😊
For his guitar playing please check Englishman In New York by Police covered by him with Big Push
DIDN'T KNOW HE COULD SOLO. DUDE!!! GO AND SEE 'HI REN' AND THE TRILOGY THAT IS 'THE TALE OF JENNY AND SCREECH':):). TO NAME JUST TWO THEN GO LOOKING HE A GENIUS.
First time here ❤ show! Renegade uk
May I suggest reacting to Ren x chinchilla ‘how to be me’ live version for a different side of him than what you’ve reacted to in the past. Not to mention chinchilla should also be on your radar ❤
That's a nod to Dre. Can Ren solo? See him in his band The Big Push in I shot the Sherriff + road to zion + hop hop. NEEDS to be the live version with Ren in Red suspenders.
Love it, ty 🙏❤️👍🐊🦉
If you want to see some good soloing from him, check out his cover of Englishman in Newyork with the Big Push.... great cover...
Did you mean the official music video for Murderer was blocked? I think if you reach out to Ren, or Connor on his team, they will take care of that for you.
He In LA. So yeah it’s a 🎩 hat tip .
Beautiful reaction and analysis 😊👌🏼
Another good reaction. I am subscribing for more Ren please. I think you can do justice to his busking with The Big push💕👍🦇
If you want to hear him REALLY play the guitar, check out the Tale of Jenny, The Tale of Screech, and Violet's Tale
Great reaction TMA. I think this is far better than the original release he did.
When my grandpa would do a random guitar solo in the middle of a song like that, he'd call it a "walk in the park" he'd be playing and singing a song then just say "I'm taking her for a walk in the park!" guitar solo... lmao!!!
Great reaction!
Ren❤❤❤
New to you, but less new to Ren, by months. Watching your Reaction, and hearing you, I think its time you followed the Ren of "TheBig Push" their Busking, as well as their Original songs. Ren in his Red Suspenders when busking tends to be the best Version of "I Shot the Sheriff" and "War Pigs" mashups. He also does collaborations with several, including Sam Tomkins, "BLIND EYED ft Angry Parking Lot Attendant" is the most FUN. version. For Blind Eyed the more "polished version" there are a couple versions, including 1 done at the BBB. Ah.... stands for Brighton Busking (have forgotten last B word) . You will find it. Many màny more out there. Including The Big Push's Swan Song. And covers of "Englishman in New York, and Mongo Bongo..Luck and Joy!
Hello was not just on vacation. If nobody noticed it looks like he has a medical band on his right wrist
I’m enjoying your Ren breakdowns. Have you heard him on piano yet? If not, have a listen to “For Joe”. It’s beautiful.
go find The Big Push cover of Wade in the Water...you will not regret it.
Ren has done lot's of great guitar solo's! { Check out all the suggestions below } Always good to hear Ren Live. I think his unique and creative blend of multiple genres and styles within genres, as well as his diverse vocal skills, really shine here. Even more that the original video clip version. 😊👍
Dr dree 😈 is that tune, west coast rap (its a little shoutout to california wher is live is recorded❤
ThnQ for the reaction 🙌🙌
The master
Listen to ren and his band the big push. They do a mashup of I shot the sheriff road to Zion and hip hop. He has red suspenders on in the video
Yes that part was a nod to Dr. Dre as this was shot in LA
Imagining how it is listening to something you cannot do.
Loving your channel. As a music teacher, maybe you know the O'Keefe Music Foundation? There's a "Kids cover 46 and 2 by Tool" which is just amazing. Would love your perspective on it.
Great reaction in if you want to hear his guitar skills got to, must check out and react to the song he did busking with his band, called The Big Push“ the song “I shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/hip hop“ cover make sure you get the one where he’s wearing the red suspenders because there’s also a single of just a shot for sure that’s not the one it’s the trilogy cover and you can really hear from showoffs guitar skills / along with the performance he did with Sam Tompkins doing Nina Simone cover
Yeah dr dre the next episode recorded in west coast L.A. on the 50th anniversary of hip hop 😎👌
one of the few where the other version is good too
Praise you by Fatboy Slim he plays bass beautiful Bassline
Yes the sample was Dre's Next Episode with Snoop and Nate Dogg. He filmed this in LA so a nod to the OG West Coast
Ya wanna see his guitar skills? I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop and Englishman in New York autta do it!
Dr Dre next episod
Ren is great on all guitars it seems....
Great reaction man!🔥🔥 definitely i shot/zion/hip hop mate....you will be blown away.
IT'S A NOD TO DR DRE. NOTICE THAT THE BACK DROP IS LA. WEST COAST....DR DRE ETC
Dre
The acoustic version is better anyway IMO
You need to react to The Big Push (Old band ren was part of) War pigs - black sabbath cover since you like rock
aucoustic version is better eny way
Watch It Go!!!! I dont believe there is a non acoustic version. This is a cover. The original original is Bob Marley, obviously, REN did his own thing and added some nods to a few other Hip Hop artists.
Yes, I keep editing and adding to my comment. Sue me. So much to say about this.
Not sure what you mean. His song 'Murderer' is his original and there is a studio version video for it. He did add the bit at the start from Damian Marley's Welcome to Jamrock. But the rest is his song with nods to hip hop stuff.
@@Dstinii you are 100% correct and I sent the studio version to DJ. Its very different.
NOT A COVER! ADDED BITS FROM DR. DRE AND Damien Marley.
