Ren filming this in L.A. and playing a quick tribute to Dr. Dre by playing the beat to his song "The Next Episode" during his last verse is God teir musicianship while being aware of your surroundings and music history!
It was also recorded on the 50th anniversary of hip hop so I'm told!

Excited with you on this react!I love how Ren does a cover of his own song and makes it more "Ren". Here his rapping has a more singing quality to it, his little ad-libs and solo guitar riffs add a little Ren spicy seasoning like Jerk Sauce and the whole thing has his bouncy, busking party vibe to it. His accoustic versions are like the Buy One Get The Limited Edition Free offer - like a bottle of Bailey's Original Irish Cream, with the Tiramisu flavoured version - they're the same but each have their own distinctive & very more-ish flavoured twist and you can enjoy both equally in the same sitting.
I can't believe his bag isn't hip hop/ rap but busking singing. He's so incredibly amazing. I'm gonna say it here cause I haven't before and kinda scared of the backlash. But he's almost a Jesus savior for music. The second coming of all talent. ❤

Me, too. My mind almost froze up when I saw him do that. He's the magic man. Talent and chops off the chart.
I was shivering over every little change he made from the original. His acoustic versions are magical.
Tidbits from barrington levy's "murderer", damian marleys "welcome to jamrock" and dr.dre's "the next episode" and ini kamozes "world a music (out in the streets they call it merther)" that is a sample on welcome to jamrock in there. Filmed in Los Angeles 6 days ago. Fun fact: "Merther" is basically the term for listening to reggae while smoking weed. The "merging" of it. Just loved it very much. Oh and also: There is a version of "murderer" from barrington levy featuring none other than rakim himself.
When you know that Ren's two big vocal icons are Nina Simone and Jeff Buckley, his vocals come into focus even more. You start to realise that those parts you thought were just random coincidences with how he sings, maybe even throwaway, are actually absolutely deliberate. I love how he plays with vocal light and shade and inserts little subtleties and nuances into his delivery, that can be missed if you're not tuned into it. I also love how he isn't afraid to play around on the edges of perfection, before reeling it back in, to make the imperfection perfect. I love it when vocalists do that. Tbh, I think Ren's voice is vastly under appreciated. He has an incredible voice! :)

Having a vocal and performing background myself, It tickles me to no end when a reactor brings things up that truly resonates. He has such a "natural" gift that I believe one is born with in a sense. And continues to craft his gifts which become more and more stellar with age. Bringing the jazz, swing, reggae, and rap together cohesively. He scats, plays guitar and intuitively finds notes and chord progressions that all-combined is extraordinary to me.

Ren has talent and musicality from head to toe and all the way out to the tips of his fingers. I think I love this version even more with all the little scatting bits and the added/changed melodies. Just brilliant. The GOAT in the rabbit hole kills it again.

He reminds me of Amy Winehouse. He puts out exactly what he wants, it’s not what anyone else is doing, yet at the same time it’s timeless and classic, bending different genres to fit his vision and, most important, he doesn’t allow himself to get bullied into making changes for commercial reasons.
