    I wish I would have had a service like this here in Canada when my wife and I bought our first caravan 20 years ago (2004). We had a small jeep liberty and pulled a 1984 golden Falcon. This small SUV was powerful but the old trailer was a heavy beast. I am almost certain now that we likely exceeded tongue weight, and tow weight. Happy to say that now we have a new trailer that is significantly lighter than the old girl was as well as use a full size truck for towing. This video should be mandatory watching for anyone starting out. Great video!

      Hello Canada! 20 years ago, it wasn’t such a big concern. These days with liability, insurances etc, it pays to take the guess work out and get weighed. Sounds like you got some good tips from the video, and thank you for your kind remarks.

    FYI: At 10:35, Toyota Land Cruiser's have full floating rear axles. This design of axle doesn't carry the weight of the vehicle. In fact, the axle can be dismantled from the axle tube without removing the wheel and could be driven in 4x4 mode using the front drive. Cheers

      Sounds interesting, we haven’t heard anything about it. We have an old faithful 2007, 78 Series.

      @outside.normal All Land Cruisers except the Prado, which is a Land Cruiser in name only, have full floating rear axles. Full floating axles were invented by General Motors in the 1930s for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. This drive system is more durable than semi floating axles found on most lightweight vehicles and passenger cars. The full floating axle transmits power as part of the drive train and doesn't support the vehicle weight. The vehicle is supported by the wheel bearings in the wheel hub. The full floating axle has a flange that is fixed to the wheel hub by six studs and nuts. This arrangement can be seen in the centre of the rear wheel. Simply undoing those six nuts, the axle can be removed from the housing. The semi floating axle has the wheel bearings pressed onto the axle. The only two 4x4s to have full floating rear axles were the Land Cruiser and Land Rover. The Hilux, Parado, Patrol and Jeep, etc. have the less durable semi floating axles where it is known for the axle to walk sideways out of the housing. The press fitted wheel bearing can only so much. Cheers and safe touring.

      @outside.normal In my world, a 2007 Land Cruiser is still new. My 4x4 history started in 1976 with a Daihatsu F20, a 1980 HJ45 Troopy, and now currently a 2002 105 series standard wagon with the most reliable 1HZ diesel engine. Cheers

      Glad you enjoyed it LOL. Yes we are travelling Australia, (although not with this particular show), for more great content, just subscribe to our channel and hit that notification bell, so you will never miss one of our comedic episodes. There was actually heaps of funnies that didn’t make it in the video as I was trying to keep it as short as I could, we had a great couple of hours with Cameron and Angela.

      Thanks mate. Mostly, there’s a couple of things we would change given the opportunity. We have an Q&A video coming out (hopefully this Sunday) I will add your question into it. Other than a couple of little things we really do love it. It is the perfect size for us.

      @outside.normal thanks for the reply, its got me bugged how many people get it all wrong looking at caravan setup as they come though Esperance ,setting up a 2024 ford ranger wildtrak and visiting MDC perth in march hope they come up to spec, happy travelling, Warren Andrews

      So many people know they are overweight, which is the scary thing. Nice one on the ford and who knows, we may see you on the road soon.

    Did you have full water tanks?

    • @outside.normal
      @outside.normal  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes, our initial weigh was with full water tanks and full diesel in the troopy. We ditched the water at the end to check the balance of the van without water. But usually we try to travel with full water tanks.

    Geez, the Dept of transport are not that nice. Remember my 604 kenworth can run all day on 5t, and some are running 3ton on the axel of a land cruiser? Some travelers are crazy. You don't believe this? You should know this!

    • @outside.normal
      @outside.normal  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes it it is a bit crazy, 10 out of 11 are overweight in some area either the tow vehicle or the van. In QLD, NSW and Vic the departments of transport are starting to crack down, so I’m guessing we will see more fines for this. It also can impact your insurance imagine having a crash then finding out your not covered because you are over weight.
