Elton John - Rocket Man (Royal Festival Hall, London 1972)

- Elton’s second concert at London’s Royal Festival Hall was an opportunity for him and his band to perform their newly-recorded album Honky Château in its entirety. This live debut of ‘Rocket Man’ two months before its release as the album’s first single is striking in its freshness and its ability to nearly replicate the studio arrangement on stage. The line-up of Davey (guitar), Dee Murray (bass) and Nigel Olsson (drums) immediately established itself as the “classic” Elton band, solidifying Elton’s studio and stage presence through his most prolific period.

Elton John - Rocket Man (Royal Festival Hall, London 1972)
/ eltonjohn - Hudba
I can't believe this is live - the vocals are stunning
I'd be honored if some Elton John fans would give a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of LEVON and ROCKET MAN on my YT channel in tribute to the masters of 20th century composition and lyrics (Elton and Bernie Taupin). Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace.

I'm thinking that too! He's like Aretha, a solid gospel sound.
The piano playing while singing
It baffles me how amazing he is at piano. Most pop singers can play chords with maybe a bit of rhythm. Sir elton can play it like a pro with very interesting ideas surrounding chord patterns all while singing
@@kareemalmadaeen2413 There are a number of excellent pop musicians who can (could) play, such as Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Nat King Cole. Of course, all three of them started as pianists (Aretha used to accompany her father' Gospel choir) and added singing later. How about Leon Russell? Pianist with the wrecking crew.
Susan Kennedy don’t forget Billy Joel
Stop the madness, stop the war and listen to Elton John ☮️

If we really are in a multiverse, I feel bad for all of the universes that don't have Elton John.
There’s probably a universe where this man worked at a record shop or a universe where he didn’t go to rehab. Sounds scary
we got the good ending xD
Exquisitely spoken.
Elton John, gênio da música.
I feel like it’s more of a neutral ending. A “good” ending could have been basically the same, but instead Elton does not lose his vocal range and has his voice age normally. Not saying it was necessarily a bad thing his voice deepened in 1986, but for the sake of the “good ending” meme, that seems more appropiate.
I’m 34 and just have started to fully appreciate what Elton John brings to the table.
I'm 29 and feel the same
Crazy I’m 34 too and just been on an Elton John binge.

This is Elton's Space Oddity
Because it's about a spaceship?
Then Queen's would be '39.
then the beatles would be across the universe
Nice comprehension compared with Bowie's space oddity.
In my opinion I think Rocket Man is about Elton’s feelings at the time.

What about George Michael? Or Hall and Oates?
Gawd, there is NOTHING like listening and seeing the legends from their early performance, so pure, yet the sound quality and vocals WITHOUT AUTOTUNE are amazing. There were so many talented people in the time before electric fake auto tune music destroyed real music. Very few people can sing live on stage and maintain the pitch and tone like EJ, plus write his own music (with the amazing lyrics help from Taupin). Makes me so sad, these legends are fading with no one to replace them. I remember seeing EJ live in the 90s on tour with Billy Joel (another legend) and Elton sounded exactly the same then as he did from this 1972 performance. God bless musicians! I've always been in awe of real musicians and how they come up with the music.
I highly doubt that Elton's voice was the same. It might have been good but it changed. It became deeper.
What a story, a legend, a pianist, a showman. Yet steered through a life of abusive parents, drugs, alcohol and industry leaches.
From beyond the grave, this man will continue to share inspiration and hope for all that's in need.
