It's worth noting that the NeoAir is made in the USA and has a lifetime warranty with spare parts easily available. The REI Helix has a one year warranty with no spare parts available. This is crucially important for such a fragile product used in such a rough environment.
Sorry to disappoint. Thermarest has their production in Europe, Ireland. But it’s Americans who started the company and moved the production. Thermarest has a nice video and behind the scenes on CZcams. 👍🏼
@@addz5 They have manufacturing facilities in Seattle (where they are based), Reno, and Cork. The Cork plant is for their European customers. You can read more about it on their website under "Built in the USA".
@@addz5These pads are made in the U.S. still with foreign and domestic materials, it says that on the box and online when ordering.
I have the large version of this pad, have used it numerous times and I love it. Comming from a thin and bulky self-inflatable pads, it's a gamechanger. I find it's comfortable down to freezing (for me). I am a side and front sleeper and sleep great on this pad. Although the valve on mine isn't fully coverd by the pad fabric, it doesn't leak and has been working fine. So quality seems to be alright. All in all I would recommend it. I would personally go for the larger size. It doesn't take up much more space and the extra comfort it gives is a world of difference.
I ❤ my Thermarest Neoair Xlite and Uberlite (25"). I honestly have never had an issue with the noise or being uncomfortable. In fairness, I haven't tried all the others - but I sleep very well... took the Xlite down to -4C last night. I guess it shows we all sleep differently!
SeaToSummit has the gold standard in valves and comfort. Just wish they were a little warmer
Dude!! Loving all these reviews
Great video. Thanks. As you state that it is the Most Popular Pad Sold, have you ever thought it’s Just You, that is uncomfortable on it?
In all criteria, this pad is King among the Market.
Love my newish Xlite NXT. See almost no need for any other pads now. To alleviate numb arms I inflate the pad to being firm when folded in half. Allows me to sink in a bit without warmth loss. Sincerely love this pad.
Absolutely my go to as well. It is very uncomfortable when fully inflated, but a world of difference with the correct amount of air which you can easily adjust with its good valve..
This is my go-to pad and I find it very comfortable but maybe that's just me.
I took that exact pad, the nxt rectangular wide, down to 3 degrees farenheit, app said "feels like -7 degrees farenheit" I was on top of a mountain and there was no snow but the ground was so frozen that a tent stake froze and snapped the next day when I tried wrenching it out. My toes were a bit cold. Thats all. Great pad. Not super comfy but eh.
I find that most backpacking pads on the market are almost always built for your typical American summer camping conditions. For Canada, the conditions are generally harsher over a larger range of seasons and area of the country. It makes more sense to go for the Max version here unless you are exclusively a fair-weather camper and don't do any alpine camps at all.
I personally don't like any of their value systems. On my current pad with their new Winglock value, I've cut the value out and installed a TPU fabric compatable value from DIY Packrafts. I used a fabric Iron from that site in China to seal it in plus some Seam Grip. A small battery pump from Flextailgear fits over this value perfectly and fills it in seconds.
What is the pillow in the video?
I purchased one a few weeks ago for a 6 day hike only to find that on the first evening of use the matt was deflating slowly and I therefore had to reinflate it several times a night over my hike which was a bummer.i got home and put the mat in a bath of water to find that it's leaking from the seam so it has been sent back and I now await to see what happens.i expected better quality from such an expensive piece of kit.
Justin, do you suggest the Max version or the Wide mummy version? I am a side sleeper as well, about your height but weight a bit more (195lbs).
How long till the review on the Nemo tensor extreme?!?!?!
Have a question, I understand r value as it applies to winter weather but if only have one pad and it's a higher r value will it make you hotter if you use it in warmer weather?
Yes, but you compensate for that by using a lighter sleeping bag, qulit or blanket.
Mine doesn't make me hotter in summer. I have the XTherm and it is a very warm sleeping pad designed for winter use. I haven't noticed feeling hotter on summer trips. But my friend can tell a difference, so I guess everyone is different.
