  • India's tour of South Africa
    2006-2007
India had just been white washed in the ODI series.
and were soon heading towards another clean sweep.
But what welcomed south africa was a feiry Shreeshant, a gritty India
and a controversy of Epic proportions.
Kallis had been photographed by media
    not singing the national anthem
this is the story of the storm that followed.
and the main reason behind the sorry nature of South african Cricket at this point.

JP Duminy that YOU just mentioned is there because of the quota system. You people are just thinly veiled racists. If 5million white people went to Pakistan, India or Sri Lanka & denied everyone of sport, whilst profiting from the labour of the natives making sure those sports are able to even take place, you people would raise hell.
Now because it's black people, you see no problem with denying them equal access to resources, training & opportunity to actually take part in something good happening in the country.
Anyways, a lot of the white players from past, including Jonty Rhodes, admitted he wouldn't have been selected in this age, because he knew he was an average player. We love the guy, but he spoke the truth. Peter Strydom & even Rilee Rossouw should've never been given any room in the squad. & thank goodness guys like Kevin Pieterson left. He did absolutely nothing for us.
You cannot tell me Kagiso Rabada, Hashim Amla, Herschelle Gibbs, Makhaya Ntini, Tabraiz Shamsi, Vernon Philande, Imran Tahir, Alviro Peterson, Ashwell Prince among others did not earn their place. Don't you dare. Yet we have some mediocre white players currently in the team who are consistently given chance after chance, yet fail to live up to the white standard. They were chokers WAAAAYYYY before any POC came in, but your racism blinds you. In fact, we've done better in cricket with inclusion even though we haven't won a WC. We were closest because other capable players were given a chance.
No one is saying AB, Graeme, Faf, Shaun aren't legends. But, excluding 85% of a country's population from PLAYING CERTAIN GAMES sure as hell is not something you should be okay with. Having 1 group from a diverse country & those people taking it amongst themselves to 'represent' the entire country is insane. No one in India or anywhere else would allow that. Why should black people & mixed black people be okay with it? WHY?

    • @lesam7813
      @lesam7813 Před 2 lety +2

@Parth Patel Not once did I say all of the POC are great. But neither are ALL the white players. That was literally the simple point I was referring to.
You cannot reminisce about white players, who SOLELY got to where they are because of their lack of pigment. Yet other people were never afforded the fair opportunity. Whites aren't born with cricketing superpowers.
Markram had way too much pressure. He was selected in every format instead of being kept on one, like Morne van Wyk & Dean Elgar, so he could be just as good or even better than both senior players..
Beuran, Andile & even Zubayr Hamza however, tried in the beginning, that's why they got their spots. But after some time, they were clearly messing up & yes, it would be okay if they were left out of international games. It would be understandable.
Shamsi is getting better. He isn't great, but he's not a liability at all. Also, he was not given as much game time because Dale Steyn, JP, Imran, Vernon, Morne Morkel & other players were always on the roster for almost all formats. Also, after Abbot & Duane signed kolpak deals, he was overplayed too for a bit.
Anyways, again, we have younger players coming in & we live in a democratic country. Our sport should reflect that. With the game being improved from behind the scenes & with better technology too, on the front, it's easier to weed out the deserving players & give them a fair shot.
The same way white kids learn when they're younger on how to play certain sports, other kids of colour, with the adequate resources & training, will learn too. They're not invalids.

So Kagiso Rabada, Hashim Amla, Vernon Philander, JP Duminy, Makhaya Ntini, Imran Tahir, Tabraiz Shamsi & many more did not earn their place in the team, even though they're better than many average white players? So basically they should have never been given any opportunity to play for us & represent us as a country? So 85% of our population should just be okay with whites only sports?
Do you also advocate for that BULLSHIT to happen in India, Pakistan pr wherever you're from? If you're okay with the natives of your country being subjected to such tomfoolery, that's on you. But don't speak for a us...a country even when there were ONLY whites in most sports, for the longest of times, NEVER even came close to winning a WC. In fact, we've come closest to getting the cup since the inclusion of our different players with not just their skill, but talent. Not only white SAns have the capability of playing certain sports.

So if you go to Europe for example, presuming of course you are coloured, does that give them the right to deny you any opportunity because they are natives of that country and your skin colour is offensive to them? After all, that is their home and they are the native people. Or do basic human rights to equality only apply when it's coloured people? Keep seething over the Boer bogeymen who supposedly are oppressing you: ANC cronies flaunt their stolen wealth like kings and you will vote them time and time again wondering why the electricity grid keeps failing or why there are roaming gangs of bandits everywhere or why the rand is borderline worthless. Don't worry, you'll have your paradise without whites soon enough. And then you will undoubtedly beg to go to Europe or America so you can ruin those countries too.

Conversely, look at the amount of cricketers during apartheid who missed out. The Majola Brothers are an excellent example. And no one can say that the people(blacks, coloreds and Indians) could not be good at the sport because a team comprised of blacks, coloreds and Indians were the #1 team at the time and would remain unbeaten for the next 15 years(i.e the west indies, the greatest team in the history of cricket and one of the best in the history of team sports).

Did you know that Herschel Gibbs was regarded as a quota player??? The term quota player is used to degrade players of colour. Would you call Hashim Amla a quota player? What about Kagiso Rabada? The term is used as a subtle means to ensure that the team remains 50% white. You see it happening at school level in SA cricket. Half the schools provincial teams are certain to contain 50% white kids regardless whether there are better players of colour.

Hi, thanks for the story. I appreciate your work. But in this video I didn't understand the relation between Kallis and reservation in his team. Did he not sing along the National Anthem because he thinks it's not worth it?

My guess would be yes. It may not be apparent and obvious but all the whites were and still and will always look down on non whites. They had the privilege just like upper class caste has the privilege here in India. Imagine all the rights of an upper class person is now equally enjoyed by a lower caste person. That's when unhappiness creeps in amongst the upper caste people. It will take over 100 years for transformation across the globe. We talk about quota as a bad thing and we are right. But what we also forget is that socially under privileged people don't get the opportunity and exposure that we get for them to be equally competitive. So increasing the grass root level facilities is fine. But what if those facilities don't reach those under privileged kids. They still will be less competitive. Hence if a nation has to be built on equality, the under privileged has to become privileged and the only way they can change is by enhancing their social status by putting them in places so that they can learn and we can teach them. That's how quota system came in every country. But how we look at them is totally different from what was expected off us. We look at them as useless quota players and they destroy the team etc etc. Inequality was started by mankind. Now the same mankind is wanting that to go away. The price is that we lose something as a country. Now people will say why should a country as a whole lose? What is a country? It's a group of people with common laws living on a land mass. So it's basically people. To correct people's mistakes, the same people has to suffer and that's the harsh reality
