    I believe the markers are listed backwards in your the slide. AA is the RS1801133 (A)Allele for C677T for decreased methylation. TT and CC are for RS1801131 A1298C.

    Thank you for this information. My interest in it is professional. I would like to share what I encounter in my research on the topic. There's many testimonials from female patients being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder that started using natural Progesterone cream plus L -Methylfolate 5000 or 10000 mcg daily and going into full remission from their Bipolar symptoms within 3 to 6 months of the above treatment. No meds but natural Progesterone cream and L Methylfolate. That's amazing I would say

    What if someone has double MTHFR mutation AND a slow COMT gene? Can they still take the L-Methylfolate or would the slow COMT cause some kind of a “backup” of the L-Methylfolate?

    Hi. Can I suggest a useful test for initial testing first session, that can be set up, would be for just a few genes that are of most concern with overwhelming correlation to severe interfering effects, limiting concerns about most genes. For instance, there are many many genes related to methylation (around 50 from last I heard) but from my limited knowledge, one one that is guaranteed severity in MTHFR, and the other MTHFR gene only of high significance if both sides are blocked. Then there is the blockage of remethylation if B12 to its active form, which, if on both sides has serious implications and affects, including in liver function dealing with chemical processing (say prescribed drugs) benzene based chemicals which are a lot more poisonous to such a person, which all produced cascading effects that can affect the mind. Then there are less important, but significant things, such as the so called worrier/warrior gene, which is one form makes one resistant to the placebo effect and I think hypnosis, and on the other side, the reverse. Which may make practitioners confused if the person is unaffected by imaginary concern, but has genuine issues (such as with strong methylation action genes, which lead to immunity problems, producing unusual infections, rate of infections, apart from other health issues). If the person is warrior version them it indicates less degree of concern about their concerns then if the gene is purely worrier type.
    Many correlations are statistical association, and with no guarantee of dysfunction, so are not of priority. However, I caution, that combinations or genes (dysfunction) and factors could have a high correlation with various individual issues. So. When the research into, and data on, these sets become available in future testing on such sets will be very useful.
    This is not to abandon lab work, and in consultation assessment, but to incorporate into initial testing those gene sets of guaranteed most concern. All these tests, would be also useful at the general practitioner level, to early spot issue that have high correlation, which can make significant advances in quality of life and income, and life expectancy, for individuals affected.

    Thanks for the great video! Question: in high risk populations, would you consider just supplementing L-methylfolate 15mg (or 7.5mg) daily without getting genetic or lab tests?

    • @PsychiatryEducationForum
      @PsychiatryEducationForum  Před 5 lety +3

      I will recommend doing RBC folate level first (not costly lab to order). If this level is low- then initiating L-Methylfolate 15 mg daily with antidepressants. Note that L-Methylfolate is an adjunct treatment to antidepressants.

      Note that this treatment and lab workup is not included in guidelines or recommendations yet. All this information is off label for the patient's meeting criteria (mentioned in the video). The duration of treatment is not specified either but studies have shown good efficacy of 15mg methylfolate for 1 year.
