      I appreciated it too. Deep Purple are so good. My partner Ken and I bonded over this song. Ken was just about old enough to remember it (1964). I'm 1976 but saw this on TOTP2 at age 13 and I was smitten by all of them! Ian Gillan is still lovely today. Ken lets me fancy him (he loves Penelope Wilton so fair dos). The first song I learned to play on my own Fender Stratocaster was Smoke on the Water, that was in 1989, and I still have that guitar today (The cat likes to play with it). I wish I were back in Birmingham in 1989!

    Ritchie Blackmore, one of the greatest innovators of great guitar riffs! He never got the recognition he deserved! As a young guitarist back in 60's and early 70's he was one of the guitarist I wanted to learn how to play like. I can't believe they just inducted Deep Purple into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year? Wow man, where was their heads at? I am 65 now but I still play purple and by learning his style it help me to want to learn tabs and read music better. took 20 years to get into my head but when my teenage boys came home from lessons playing things exactly like they sounded on recordings I got interested. God gave us music and not just pop or country but also hard rock! He gave us thunder and lightning didn't He? I have gotten put down a lot over years being a preacher and loving hard rock and some heavy metal but it is really sophisticated intricate music or if not everyone that's picks up a guitar could play it. Thank you Deep Purple and Ritchie Blackmore for your style!

    • @68blues
      @68blues Před 7 lety +2

      Robert Presnell ...Are you serious????? The simplicity of Blackmores "chops" are unbeleivable. For instance, what is the first guitar break a learner tries to master? Correct...Smoke on the Water. The intro to Black Night isn't much more complicated is it?
      Try some John McGlaughlin riffs, that is damn hard!!!!! Get back to me when you do.✌🏻️

    • @JokersWild70
      @JokersWild70 Před 7 lety +3

      In all fairness to McCloughlin, Hendrix wasn't a huge admirer of his (yea, I know he wasn't around then), but Hendrix WAS a huge admirer of Ritchie's. It isn't so much the main riffs themselves that are complicated, its the notes that he plays in the breaks and solos that are amazing. And as far as this joke called the "Rock n Roll Hall of Fame" (what a piece of shit that is), who cares if Purple or anyone else takes a long time by these fucktards to be acknowledged? Ritchie didn't turn about because he could give fuck all about awards. He never has cared about them at any point.

    • @intkxzc459
      @intkxzc459 Před 7 lety +2

      I'm just saying that when I first heard Purple, I was about 15 or 16 and Hush came out and as a young guitarist I thought the sound was great. Yes, a lot of his riffs are simple but the way he played them and what he was doing in the studio was really good back in the 60's. Yes I play some John McGlaughlin and they are hard but with tabs they can be figured but I concentrate on my own riffs more now that I'm older. At 15 I was in a band in Ohio and we started playing clubs when I was 16-17 and we had to play what was popular but by 1969 we played a lot of album songs and Purple had some really good stuff for stoned hippies and drunks at the clubs. The reason I said Blackmore was and innovator was at the time he had no digital effects, not even in the studio and he made the sound that a lot of guitarist liked and that his public liked. No he was not a tapper or speed freak on the guitar but his licks were very good and most of the time unique. Besides there are no you are better than so and so and she or he's better than you! They are all good in their own way and different also. God bless and keep on pickin' brother. One more thing, I've heard bluegrass pickers burn the guitar up on an acoustic. I don't know if you ever listen bluegrass but google Tone Rice or Tommy Emmanuel or Rob Ickes /Trey Hensley and they are just a few of the great bluegrass pickers. I also have played the banjo, dobro, mandolin fiddle and few more instruments that are not real easy to play at least at a med. level.

      @intkxzc459 Před 7 lety +3

      JokersWild45 Of course Hendrix and most of the guitarists being mentioned were blues based. McLaughlin clearly isn't. As far as sheer technique and technical proficiency is concerned McLaughlin is almost in his own universe.
      He cando pretty much anything that's ever Been done but few can match or even keep up with him.
      I know that seems like a lot of praise but he deserves every bit and more.

They always had this very unique and powerful sound , very powerful dynamics chord brake changes changes , kick arse's vocals with awesome lyrics and Ritchie Blackmore to me is the guitarist from Deep Purple .... Sorry Deep Purple to me without Ritchie is just a cover band with the real guys less Ritchie ... He is mean , he blows my brains out , he's got this tasteful solos that is absolutely genius piece of art !

    Lyrics 😊
    Black night is not right
    I don't feel so bright
    I don't care to sit tight
    Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
    That I'm free, free to be me
    Black night is a long way from home
    I don't want a dark tree
    I don't need a rough sea
    I can't feel, I can't see
    Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
    That I'm free, free to be me
    Black night is a long way from home
    Black night, black night
    I don't need black night
    I can't see dark light
    Maybe I'll find on the way down the line
    That I'm free, free to be me
    Black night is a long way from home

    I just find that last 15 seconds of guitar exquisite. So expressive yet apparently so easy for him. He just manages such great sounds. The excellent guitarists who followed into Deep Purple said they'd not try to emulate his style. Wise move.

      @68blues Před 7 lety +1

      MrStevecro ....who tried to emulate Blackmore??? Have you seen any of his tripe from the last twenty years?

      @@68blues : cool down simple lad. I don't know of a famous guitarist named John McGlaughlin. I DO know of a John Mclaughlin though. If you don't know of any guitarists that learned much from Blackmore's expressive playing then you're musicslly ignorant

    I played in a band & we run out of songs, we had jammed on Black Night once.. the lead singer said something to the drummer.. next minute he’s doing the intro roll to Black Night.. I 💩 myself, but somehow remembered the riff & did a Pentatonic solo.. it was the best we ever played it.. 🤣

      Don't know how well you know around Belper, @Citizan Smiff, but I'm here coz while taking a walk out - after going for my first COVID-19 vaccine this AM at Babington Hospital - around where I used to live over on the Chevin, this was on a radio somewhere through Belper Meadows...getting me air-drumming to Ian Paice! Brilliant stuff! I concede that I'm an adoptive 'Canary', football-wise, but I'm sure my Rams-supporting older brother would say something like, "The early 70s - Derby County League Champions, Deep Purple in the charts. That's about as good as it gets!"
