@@SeizureNoodles Your not wrong about pushing over a siege ladder the more effective option is to either stab them as they get to the top or throw rocks/bricks/arrows/burning oil at them as they climb, that usually does the trick.
siege ladders had hooks that latch onto your inner side of the wall so you have to lift them up to clear the hooks and then throw them over, and thats like impossible when 5-20 angry hairy savages are climbing up it.

I’ve been to the Great Wall. It’s wild. The mountains are so high and so steep, they’re no joke whatsoever. If you fall you’re falling to your death. Plus, they’re a lot higher in person. They look small because they are so wide.
The walls are so high up on mountain peaks that it’s not a real “ladder” kind of situation. You need to scale the mountain to get there at all. The Chinese were essentially capitalizing on a preexisting natural barrier.

The issue is it isn't all in the mountains and it's a lot of area to cover when dealing with fast mounted armies so you just hit somewhere easier and less defensive.
It was quite the statement though both to the Mongolians and how much they feared them.

@@therealjohncena760 While the Great Wall ultimately wasn't perfect at keeping enemies out, it did work in some other ways: It allowed Chinese peasants to move into border provinces, as they were considered more safe than if they had been completely undefended, while also requiring fewer armies to be stationed there.
This made border provinces a lot more loyal to the Emperor than they would have been otherwise. The Roman Empire regularly saw ambitious generals from border provinces rise up to take power, the Chinese Empires had basically none of that.
Seeing Asmon go for a True Charge that'll miss is awe inspiring. The chat trying to tell him how to use the GS and to tackle and all that just doesn't understand. He's out here struggling and it's beautiful. When he hits it though, god damn, it's hitting my soul.

@markjosephhuerno3391 Exactly. We just got good with the timing. The problem is greatsword is one of the harder weapons to become efficient with, any new player is going to struggle with it.
I certainly wasn't landing level 3 charges on Tigrex the first time I fought him... but when you got good as an old school gs hunter there was arguably no better blademaster weapon in terms of sheer damage and versatility.
@deaj8450 charge blade probably stronger though, and I wouldn't doubt hammer damage either, but for myself I like dual blades dps is king

Kick is great, we used to measure how tanky a monster is with kick since it always do a flat amount of damage. There wasn't any damage number shown before world.
We also use kick as an unit of measurement for damage. There are plenty of moves in this game that worth less than a kick per second.

Great sword is the edgingist weapon. You are either doing it on purpose. Or some monster is doing it to you. Either way frustration is inevitable if you want that sweet release.

Pretty much any fantasy game he picks up his choices are all the same every time > Male human with giant sword(in case sword not an option giant axe or hammer)
Even if said build is atrociously bad and it will make him mald he will still pick it...cus he pretty much refuses to play anything else.
I honestly wanna see a game where they restrict the giant sword to a female char only... see if he actually plays that or does another class XD

The Mongolians didn't use ladders actually. They kind of just...broke through it. Cause as it turns out, it's kind of hard to defend 21 000 km of wall so the Mongols just picked a spot where there were like a few dozen guys at most and punched through it with their whole army.
Then they can get their horses through! GENIUS!
The Chinese wall wasn't as much a defensive perimeters, but rather an elevated road on which messagers could safely travel and signals could travel great distances quickly.
(Light a fire on the tower if an enemy approached. Next tower sees it, does the same. And repeat)

By 12 hours in and going on to high rank he should be using block shoulder charge and the stinger a lot more inhavent seennhim shot the rock out the birds hands or anything yet i sometimes think he is doing it on purpose but he is still great and i will be watching either way he is like tv to me nowadays i do not watch any normal tv anymore
What is big d energy?
The walls were more of a slowing doen technique, not a full block. Plus it's a lot easier to garrison the landscape and send messages to the forts. Same for Hadrian's wall
I like the idea of really big ladders being caught in tree's, a ladder that's not quite big enough to quite reach the top, Mongolions stuck in trees after accidentally polevaulting from their horses, two mongolians on horses trying to really carefully manover the ladder between trees etc. Eventually they make it to the wall, but Steve who is on duty just pushes the ladder away from the wall.
Great sword is actually one of the best weapons. Yes, it is slow as hell, but it’s all about timing and combos and being able to block

It's funny because Mcconnell (the cat) is actually carrying him most fights. The only reason he lands any attacks is because the monster decides to attack Mcconnell instead.

him not even trying to use the Shoulder charge, clutch claw, or shoot any pods is making me go insane.
The trick is swinging the greatsword where the monster is "going to be" in the next few seconds, not where the monster currently is. Lots of players seldom miss with the greatsword after a little practice.

Gonna be honest, great sword usage is best with crit draw. Also, the charge up is best used on a sleeping target. Ps, charge draw is a thing. (Lvl.3 Crit.).

Not with tackle, and if you're ever caught out of position you have a guard. If you have zero understanding of a monster's openings, it can be. I always found it to be one of the easier weapons to play.
In Old MH games yes, in rise and world hell no.

The thing about the great sword is that, like most games, it emphasizes knowing enemy attack patterns. I have very few misses in World. Side note: most of the experimental features of Rise fix Great Sword.
Yep, I became a GS main in Rise just because I can quickly reposition with the wiredash. That tidbit of mobility was everything. Not really a fan of the alternative moveset to replace true charge slash combo, since it has so much hyperarmor it gets you killed in an instant against a lot of enemies, it has its place, although old moveset is still great.
Props to the individual who designed that rocket-powered greatsword.
The Wyvern Ignition Greatsword was originally designed by Frank Yang for a community art contest. The design won and got added to the game.
Greatsword has been a classic of MH
It rewards timing and position. Yes it might seem lackluster and not top tier for speed running
BUT there are masters our there , GS mains who calculate every detail and flinch damage to ensure they land their hits. This is the beauty of MH
You main a weapon , and draw the best out of it , even if it is C- tier
And these gods can still make the run work

HK_MH_OLAY who literally plays GS in all MH games. He even played ER with the same GS style
You can also master an art of throwing shit over 100m...one might be impressed by it but it won't change the fact that you are still playing with literal shit...same with Greatsword in MH xD
@@DrAhzekBack in the old games GS was a much better weapon in terms of tier listing, probably because no weapon had the mobility options that exist now. The damage and versatility really good gs users could output was insane. Though it was especially beginner punishing back then because there weren't as many attacks. Either you mastered charges or you weren't doing it very good because there were only like half the moves there are now.
It took me probably hundreds of hours to be genuinely good with the greatsword as a kid. But I powered through it cause big sword cool.
Man, Its saddening that we won't be getting any more of these videos anymore. JoCat will be greatly missed.

The difference from 1000 dpm and 5000dpm with the GS is learning how to cancel the 2nd attack in the true strike combo with a slinger attack legit makes landing combos 10x easier

Honestly, one of the more realistic giant swords in gaming.
And yet, I prefer the one from the Berserk games.
One of those handles it relatively realistically. Damn thing bounces off walls. The other just lets you absolutely slaughter everything but compensates by having essentially infinite enemies to kill.
The Great wall were designed for an important function of watch tower . It alerts the whole wall and mobilize the army. If you watch Mulan that was a great example.

Landing the last charge gets easy. Don't charge each strike just the third in the bunch that does most damage. With practice, you'll know when to strike. You'll also be able to go up to a sleeping monster, do the first 2 charges and missing (intentionally) to get that final charge right on the monsters dome. Go right next to its head, block, roll backwards, use that distance and commence.
I tired Great Sword once, I knew from that try that it wasn't something I would be good with so I picked the Long Sword and then the Daggers.
Im so glad asmon is getting into mh.

I love how the video conveniently ignores the shoulder bash that reduces damage taken, prevents most attacks from knocking you over, and can be used instead of swings to reach your strongest attack a little quicker.

A thousand hours and I’m no better with the great sword than the day I picked it up, got fairly good with all the other weapons though except the horn, I didn’t even try it until I could get the Zinogre one that resembles an electric guitar.

i really think he would enjoy the hammer more. you don't have to stand there and charge your hits, and getting a knockdown is just as satisfying as getting a full lvl 3 longsword charge.

Greatsword is the best weapon in Monster Hunter because while there's no worse feeling than missing a true charge slash, there's also no better feeling than hitting the monster in the head and watching it stagger or fall over after. When you add in playing the game for stream content, it was a 10/10 choice.

A ladder over the great wall is more expensive than bribing the guard at the front gate.
Takes a while to get used to greatsword, at least he is charging it. I began thinking charging wasnt a big deal, Ill just hit them faster and dps with speed. Oh, so many 20 min hunts.... It really helps when he eventually knows what the monsters will do, can estimate how much of a charge he can safely invest in. One of the harder weapons to get good at, but its so cool, you just have to try it.
greatsword is amazing in a team where everybody else is wrecking the monster and putting it down long enough for the greatsword to do his combo, or if you like to play with as much sleeping meat as you can have
I’ve genuinely enjoyed watching Asmon play MHW. And as a fan since Tri, I knew exactly what was coming when he picked the GS.
The Great Sword is the most satisfying weapon for me after trying the others since the first Game way back PS2
and thats why DDDA was so great you had Poise and Skills that where made for standing still as a warrior, and in Monster Hunter you need to be Fast
He should really go try Switch Axe, the sword part of it is just as big but way more versatile
The wall did its job, and its extremely efficient in terms of resources at preventing successful nomad raider from escaping, it made the small tribes unable to survive, thus has forced them to come together into much larger tribe.
