There's a reason why "Scott Pilgrim is dating a high schooler" were the first words from the comic series. It's like, "this is how low the bar is set for our protagonist starting off, and he still doesn't clear it". I love the series.

I think the part that people can kinda miss about the series, thanks to the movie, is that uh. Yeah, Scott's supposed to be a bad person at the beginning. To me, the entire point of the series is basically him having to go through the long and hard journey of realizing that he's an awful person, and try his best to change. It's downright inspirational at points, especially the ending. It's a story about a bad person learning to improve.
.....In the comics, at least. In the movie he learns just about nothing, which disregards the entire point of the comics and gives it a bad reputation.

Scott gets his dream girl in the end despite being a dick is def an incel fantasy. Scott's a simp in the beginning cuz hot girl (pure incel fantasy move) however overtime he touches grass and betters himself (becoming less of an incel...and more just a dude), which allows him to get his dream girl who is the equivalent of a bitchy onlyfans model mind you. Basically: Scott starts as an incel and overtime slowly stops and becomes better. All for a prize that, although looks shiny, is just as broken as he is. Not an incel fantasy imo
I thought the comic made it pretty clear that Scott was always in the wrong, though. Scott dating a high schooler, scott treating his friends terribly, scott idolizing ramona--etc. All his friends also matured, and he was the last one to do so. Part of the reason they all drift apart is because of scott's insane lack of maturity, and Knives is given the last laugh by being able to grow up herself. She starts as a girl who is so lacking in confidence and is so desperate for validation that she'll date a man in his mid 20s and call that cool--and in the end, she is able to tell scott, with full love and acceptance of herself, that she's too good for him. And scott also reaches a point where he's extremely happy to hear that, and graciously allows her to leave. It's not something that's spelled out, but it's something that hits hard when you actually read the comic, because scott pilgrim dating a 17 year old high schooler always marked him as a loser.

Okay, voice acting and jokes are amazing as usual, but I have to point out the panel editing!
Holy crap, the way each piece of dialogue is a new panel that slides in is so cool! It really adds to the comic aesthetic! It’s just so much fun to watch, even without the great jokes and voice acting.
And they way it just dissolves at the end when the plot goes off the rails and the plushies come back out is just perfect!
This video was so fun holy shit. The editing was really funny,and the VAs did an awesome job. Hopefully there’s another one in the works but no rush!

are people forgetting that scott being a bad person is literally the entire point of his character so that he can have something called "an arc". His thing at the beginning is that he's supposed to be a loser who behaves in loser activity because just can't accept who he is now and chooses to ignore his present situation. His arc is complete when he gains self acceptance, actually apologizes to every person he's hurt and he doesn't even get the girl at the end, but it's fine because he even made peace with his evil version "nega scott".
TLDR: scott is scummy not because of aged badly stuff, but because he's SUPPOSED to be scummy so he can learn to be better.

The voice actors did a great job here, they actually sound like the characters which makes this seem like the anime came early.
You just brought this up from the depths of my childhood and I am eternally grateful.
Scott is fine. the only person im truly worried about is Edgar Wright, who thought Scott should be with Knives in the end. that was what he wanted as an ending.... it was only when test audiences rioted and the final volume of the comic came out with the ending did he realize he needed to reshoot the ending.
Superbad is one of those movies you liked as a kid, but when you grow up you dont get the tiniest bit of nostalgia from and just makes you contemplate on your life.

Now wait a damn minute- I read the entirety of the comics. Kim and Knives literally kissed when they were drunk. Where as Scott and Knives only held hands. They kissed once, when she turned 18 at some point in the series and it was terrible for everyone including you.
And to anyone who thinks Ramona deserves better, let me tell you that she has cheated at least 3 times throughout her relationships. Meanwhile Scott has only cheated once, as far as the information was told.
Of course Wallace would perk his ears at the sound of Scott being gay, it's just his thing to do.

it made any scene about the relationship with knives awkward cause your just stuck thinking " so does scott just hang out near highschools or something"
I mean- it’s not like you find highschoolers *only* in school, they’re people to with hobbies, passions and other things to do other than being in school- some of them possibly work cause they dropped out at 16 and don’t even go near them anymore themselves, so I mean, 17-23 doesn’t even sound that weird (atleast to me, it’s pretty normal and even considered legal where I live, Italy) plus, it’s literally gonna be 18-24 in a year-
Everyone condemns Scott but never brings up what Kim did in volume 4 or her ending in the game
I hope Bryan Lee O’Malley will change Knives as a college student in her early 20s and Scott is 23 on Netflix to retelling the story.
