He overrates spiked shield to hard, especially when he has another shield generator
To be fair, he didn't have another shield gen when he got it. However, should have pulled it when Broadsword showed up

If he hadn't played like a total wally that last fight should have been pretty easy.
Why was he worried about taking damage from fire dice? (when, actually, it built fury so it was good to take fire damage). Thus, why not make sure to put evens into spiked shield? Why not bring a fury into the fight from the one before? (which would have been easy). And, although I don't mind him not swapping equipment every fight, for this one shield is useless, so could he at least not have switched to damage rather than shield equipment for that fight?
To be fair skeleton is also like, one of the worst rules. But yeah egg, PLEASE STOP USING SPIKED SHIELD.
You had the ACTUAL hard counter to Cornelis in your backpack too, and just immediately dismissed it. Survive next fatal blow is pretty great against someone who takes 8 turns to wind up.
It ain't NL if he ain't getting spiked shield whenever possible

As many have said last stand was the real hard counter, but also should've never put up shield could've used the burn to reach fury.
Egg needs to stop overvaluing spiked shield so much. It takes two spaces, can't take a six unless upgraded, and its flexibility doesn't make up for it.

At least grab broadsword for fights that are a race. Would have saved him in the last fight and certainly been more helpful than saving gold you'll never realistically be able to spend. Good times though, will hate to see this series end.
WhiteJiggaboo especially since, in my opinion Crescent moon blade is so much better than spiked shield

Without much dice manipulation, I wouldn't even call it flexibility , I'd call it inconsistency, that thing is worse than sword
I got the exactly same feeling during this run. I don't know much about DD, but I feel that spiked shield would be a better value proposition if it was a single instead of a dual slot

Well it came down to the wire at the end.
Woulda been interesting to see if this run could've pushed through the final boss encounters with nothing more than one big 30 damage turn and a bunch of stalling.

Everytime Egg uses Crystal Sword on the very first turn without Fury I die a little inside.
The man, during his millenial existence, had developed a series of ancestral fears... fear of the dark, of fire, of predators.
NL, in 45 episodes, has developed a fear for sneazy
puts up shield in cornelius fight, so he can't get to fury... oh lion, my lion!
Why not use last stand going into the Cornelius fight to guarantee victory then swap back to your original equipment before the boss?
Or don't stack shield to get fury from fire or million other ways to deal with him

Spiked Shield out, Trident plus Bump in, Cornelius is a joke with that setup. Likely 3 turns before he actually starts his ability ticking down...
Heck, he could've put Trident and Last Stand in and would have had a second chance at victory, had he needed it.

"im gonna counter cornelius so hard" with...a die lock and he gains a new dice every turn? No idea if last stand woulda bought you another turn or not but interesting it was in your inventory.
Cornelius' countdown would've reset, it would've bought him multiple turns.
If it works the way I think it works, it would have bought him several turns. Not sure what to replace though. He would have to sacrifice damage to get last stand in, which means the fight would have lasted longer, and he still might have been screwed.
i dont think it would have been several turns because cornelius still would have had like 7 dice. i figured maybe 1 to 3 turns but honestly he didnt have enough damage in his set.
@@Zebo12345678 Removing Spiked Shield makes room for both Last Stand and Trident which would have Frozen and Shocked Cornelius, stalling even longer. NL had a guaranteed win had he changed his equipment to better deal with Cornelius

Yup NL tunnel visions hard did this alot with equipment that if you put a certain dice value u in you can get more value ends up not using it if he cant optimal die in. Hes been improved on that though from his earlier episodes.
The hard counter to Cornelius is last stand as it forces him to get 198 total dice before he kills you. This was given to you for free btw.

No its impossible for Cornelius to kill you if you have last stand, assuming you don't get shit on by the rolls. His attack can only be used once per turn, not multiple times.
@@inukami8963 you can use last stand more than once. Also you didn't understand his argument, he was saying cornboi would need to get 2x99=198 pips. Last stand would almost guarantee he survived forever
Basically, Cornelius can't kill you unless he he rolls 99 before the player can roll 12.

NL a mechanics note if you take damage when you have shield you don't get progress on your alt.
Fairly certain he just completely forgot he had shields to eat the damage, that's what it seemed like anyway.

i didnt even read the title and i saw Cornelius choking you out once you entered the floor. your run didnt have enough damage. Last Stand would have saved u tho
"Hey we're about to fight Cornelius. The thing about Cornelius is he kills you in one hit. Oh hey, I got the equipment that lets you survive lethal damage. Why on earth would I ever want to use that? Anyways, let's go fight Cornelius, the guy who kills you in one hit."
It's like he explains why Last Stand is a great piece of equipment. Then he gets Last Stand and dismisses it. Then he explains why Last Stand is perfect for this exact situation AGAIN.
imagine a world where for at least the cornelius fight NL was like "okay spiked shield really won't be that helpful for this enemy, I'll swap to the trident and bump for him" and would have easily had enough damage then

NL put that boner for spiked shield away, crescent blade is just a better version of it. 100% you win the last fight just by swapping spiked shield out for trident.

That Cornelius fight was a showcase of pure stupidity. As was not bringing a fury from the fight before.
Last Stand vs Cornelius: D O N ' T T H I N K S O
Changing the locked dice from 3 to 5 was probably your downfall as all your dice holes wanted 5 and reduced the range you could spread around effectively. Although can't say that losing one of your starting dice wasn't a big factor too. (and that 10% extra boss health, you had him but for that) so ultimately any of these range of factors added to your downfall there.
This was so frustrating to watch, why would you keep spike shield over trident and bump? Crescent moon blade is pretty much a better spiked shield. Also probably would’ve won that last fight if you had used the evens instead of rerolling them into odds smh
Or if he had saved his fury instead of going for lethal against Aurora, or if he'd switched out his equipment, or if he'd intentionally not blocked and used burned dice to generate fury, or if he ran away instead of hoping 8 dice wouldn't roll 21.....

@@jamma246 jamma246 the probability of rolling any one number from 4 dice is very low. The average of 4d6 is a 14, which has an ~11% chance of happening. Rolling exactly 11 from 4d6 has an 8% chance, the same as rolling a 17. It also just so happens that the standard deviation of a 4d6 is 3.4, and seeing as we can't have a non-integer value, you can consider 11 and 17 to both be within 1SD of 14, meaning 68% of rolls will be between those numbers. He's not "extremely below" the average. Had he rolled a total of say 6 or 7, I'd consider that very unlucky.

I mean, it's pretty obvious from context that he meant 11 or less was unlikely - this is the only way of sensibly interpretting precisely what he said, which was "11 on 4 dice is a statistically way below average roll". And indeed the probability I gave shows that this is pretty fair (roughly 1 in 4). So not quite sure what your point is.

Sure, it may be that NL lost because of a misplay, BUT. But! I'm still glad he had fun. You can hear it in his voice- this is one of my favorite Dicey episodes yet.
You know, Last Stand would not only have saved you from Cornelius, but you would have gotten an achievement for surviving an attack from him.
If only you didn't miss exactly six damage when talking about spiced sixes.
He had so many ways to completely destroy Cornelius, but instead he goes for the one way that screws him because he doesn't believe in adapting his equipment depending on enemies. Shielding himself for so much is even worse than nothing, because it prevented him from getting another Fury activation which would've also killed Cornelius with that current build.

you need to start changing your equipment for the cornelius fight. I mean maybe for other fights too, but you need to imagine cornelius being as dangerous as drake. Would you fight drake without stake?
You skipped trident (best equipment in the game) and stuck with spike shield which is not that good later on

@@Ulgroth He chose to play the burning 5 instead of the 6 for absolutely no reason. I think he for some reason must have thought that Crescent-Moon couldn't take a 6, even though there is little reason for him to think that.

unless he is playing the inventor he will NEVER do even something remotely close to swapping is equipment for something better just for a specific fight
I'm fairly certain NL just isn't wired to play that way, I think he plays this game like any other roguelike, he gets a build and he more or less sticks with it and less he sees it's not working well and he has the ability to change on the fly. I don't think he ever looks at an enemy and thinks "do I have something better for this enemy?" He just kinda keeps going and hopes that his build that's been working so far also works for the next enemy.
Last stand is so good against Cornelius! Just block his huge attack with it and take the fight at your own pace!
Last stand would've made him invincible against cornelius, too bad he didn't notice... :(
My man, you had to save fury for Cornelius
There are certain enemies the locked dice literally counters, but he should have traded it out for Trident on most fights. Always has a good effect, not just on a specific roll and 1 higher damage potential. He gets locked in on "good" equipment and never considers if new things might be better...

Yep. And it's reusable, you just have to go through its countdown again. So Cornelius can't kill you unless he can complete a 99 cooldown faster than Last Stand's 12 cooldown.
13:27 has two 5s, uses the one with the burn.
In the Cornelius fight burning yourself with dice might've given you fury tho. Also you'd level up so the damage from dicewouldn't've mattered in the end

Hmmm if only someone had not wasted their fury killing Aurora, the 30 dmg start probably would've helped.

14:45 I haven't even seen the end yet but I *know* NL isn't winning this one if he upgrades a weapon that can only be used once per battle.
Upgrading isnt even the issue. Sinvicta broke the run by using fury with this item. NLs issue is he didn't wait for fury to become active before using the item.

I know you're a big fan of spiked shield, but at least for Cornelius, considering he doesn't do any damage at all, there are a lot of things that are better. Also, big mistake using your fury the last turn against Aurora, you would have survived another turn, so you should have saved it for Crystal Sword against Cornelius. And when you might have been able to salvage the situation by taking damage with burning dice, you went the opposite route and put up shields, so still no fury. Shame, the run was pretty good up until that point. Weird build, but surprisingly effective.

I feel like the Conelius fight would've went so much better if you equipped Trident and Last Stand instead, Trident would easily make two of Cornelius's dice null/low value and Last Stand would've made it so he had to recharge his skill again. I personally dont like Crystal Sword either but I guess after losing a dice it wasn't that bad, I just prefer reliability over "one and done" options, which has nothing to do with the Cornelius loss really.

Brother you would have won easily if you just used Trident and took out that stupid spike shield on an enemy that isn't affected by shield. Tridents shock is essentially a lock dice as well..

I have no idea why you thought your ability to lock a single dice, put up shield, and slowly do damage was a hard-counter to Cornelius
Wanna know what IS a counter to Cornelius? That Last Stand you had. It let's you eat his attack and makes him incapable of killing you until he gets to the point where he can finish his countdown in 1 or 2 turns.
You can also just run away if a Cornelius fight is going poorly and try again.
You could have used the damage of the fire dices to charge your fury constantly vs Cornelius

Edit: you also chose to use a burning 5 instead of your two other 5s in that same fight, and you didn't have shield.
There's nothing to keep track of though. There's a turn counter.
