How is that fifth string tuned? And are the rest eadg

Yes, EADG as usual, and the 5th string is a low B. Some bass players tune it a semitone up, Low C

beautifully played. Quick question: would you recommend a 5 stringed bass to a musician who has been playing the instrument for only 5 years and is starting to join private symphonies?

      Thank you🙏
I guess there is no limitations in terms of level/skills. It just takes a little time to adapt to the 5th string👌
If you take the Billè (methode for Double-Bass) you may see that from the very beginning there are exercises for the 5 string as well

I just want to chime in as I recently took a five string on trial and seriously considered buying it. They're larger and more cumbersome to play, and while many sound great in the lower registers due to this, the higher range will often be difficult to make speak well, and clarity can be a challenge. They're not great for auditions or solo playing, you can sort of make them work for chamber music, but they're pretty good for section playing. My verdict wound up being: I'd love playing it in a section but hate it for anything else. Not going to say flat out whether it's a good idea or not, because it depends on the bass and the player's needs, but that's just my experience.

@@leifdering3600 I agree with you, the 5 String Bass is just for Orchestra use. Only in rare exceptions I've seen 5 string basses that sound well in the high register, but still, big and not so comfortable for solo playing

@@leifdering3600 I think that’s the sentiment my teacher had. He recommended an extension instead because of how the extra string makes crossing harder
