Hey everyone,
no rust this time. This video is all about family business, after my father passed away unexpected for all of us in January, I'm finally finishing two hatchets that I want to give to my two sisters as a remembrance of our father. My younger sister forged the hatchet heads herself in a blacksmithing class and gave me the forged blanks so that I can finish them on my channel one day. A year later, it's the right time to tackle this honorable task.
My father was an enthusiastic woodsman in his hobby, which is why the axes have a special meaning for me. They should remind my sisters of our father and also remind them that he gave them all the tools they needed to master all the challenges in life.
The fact that I am giving the hatchets shows that I also received all my manual skills from my father.
After first preparing the eyes of the axe heads for the handles (I had to enlarge them slightly and weld two cracks shut), I give the heads their final axe shape and then polish them up.
I make the axe handles from pear wood with individual laminations of cherry and multilaminate or purple heart. In addition, both axe handles get palm rests in the handles for a better grip. I make these from bloodwood and also purple heart to make the most beautiful axe handle for each hatchet.
Last but not least, I make leather sheaths to protect the blade and the carrier when carrying and leather protectors for the wooden handle in case a hit is missed.
The results are really something special and my sisters were delighted.
Finally, of course, there was a beer. This time I'm testing a "Giesinger" from munich and this beer is also something very special.
Leave a comment if you like the video and leave a like and maybe even subscribe to the channel.
Stay healthy.

I'm very sad for the loss of your dad. He is surely very proud of who you are, and of the beautiful work that you do. ❤
6:35 Pro Tip. Take a plastic bag(s) and turn it inside out. Place the bag(s) over each magnet, then do a sweep over the metal particles. When finished, simply turn the bag inside out again, trapping the metal particles into the bag. Discard the bag of particles. The magnets remain free of metal particles, and you drink a beer like a genius!
I second the bag trick. If for some reason the bag is in the way, you can also use blue painter's tape, but the cleanup is slightly slower.
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your father. Your sisters are fortunate to have you for a brother.
So sorry for your loss, what an outstanding tribute to your father. I'm sure he'd be so proud of the work you and your sister put in.
I'm very sorry for your loss, and great work on these hatchets! A wonderful way to remember him
My condolences on your father. If you are any reflection of the man he was, then the world has truly lost some one wonderful. What wonderful finished products that you have given your sisters. You and they have forged, fitted, and finished family heirlooms. Cheers.
There will always be a connection between family that nobody will understand. I hope yours never changes. Your journey has been rough but your family will never
let you down. Your work shows that you care. Thank you for the chance to see your videos.
Dr. Beer, was für eine schöne Hommage an Ihren Vater und Ihre Familie. Deine Zusammenarbeit mit deiner Schwester ist wunderschön, du machst deinen Vater stolz.
Dein Verlust tut mir leid. Ihre Videos würdigen ihn und das Erbe, das er Ihnen hinterlassen hat.
Vielen Dank, dass Sie den Schmerz und die Freude Ihrer Familie teilen. Umarmungen an dich, deine ❤
I could not say it better. This was a classy tribute to an obviously loved father. I wish you, your sisters and family much comfort at this time.
Also you even managed to find the best kind of beer to review on this episode. I wish I had access to all your beers. Some of them have looked amazing, and this is one of them!
Thank you so so much Vickie
Sorry for your loss.
My father died in November 2022. We must show ourselves worthy of our fathers and watch over ours as they did.
Bravo for this very special work. These axes are much more than simple objects due to their beauty, your superb work and what it will represent for your sisters.
Stay strong.
You're an IMPRESSIVE Craftsman.
Absolutely beautiful - all of it. (Even the beer!!) And your dedication is so honoring. Congratulations. You father should be proud - of the three of you!
Thank you very much
How it is possible that one person has so many skills 😮😮
My sincere condolences about your father. I remember in an earlier video he helped you do some welding. I'm sure he was proud of you, and what you've accomplished. And I bet he'd be super proud of the job you did on the hatchets. Here I had been whining about my losses commenting in older videos, not knowing that you had a loss as well, and yet you still commented and gave me some encouraging words. And I appreciated that very much.
These creations are so heartfelt and just as beautiful as the family that worked together to create them. And what a wonderful choice using blood wood, your bloodline is represented in them. You've all done each other proud!
My sympathy for your loss of a great father.
Thanks again for giving my 3 y/o son and I something wholesome to watch together. He loves the polishing wheel.
Теперь у тебя есть два томагавка!
Можешь чувствовать себя дважды индейцем!
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Beautiful projects and again I enjoy watching your videos.
„Immer an deiner Seite“ is wonderful. ❤
Condolences from my house to yours. You are truly a renaissance man. Your family must be proud.
You and your sister did great work on these axes. It's clear that this was an important project for your family, so thank you for sharing it with us. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your father.
My sincere condolences on the loss of your father. I am sure he is proud of you and your siblings! Artistry must be in your genes! The work you have done, and continue to do, is amazing! What a beautiful tribute to your father, and lovely (and useful!) remembrances for your sisters!
Damn masterpiece. Your dad I'm sure would be proud. Incredible.
My condolences 💐
My sincere condolences for your oss.
Hi. Absolutely great job ! The handles are fascinating.
Your Dad could be proud of you. (I surely think he is from above).
PS: ein gerade so passender Klarsichtbeutel um die Magnete und aufgesammelte Eisenspäne sind in einem "Zug" im Müll.
What a lovely tribute to your father! Your sisters are lucky to have you create such exquisite objects.
This is so very moving. I'm an only child so I have to miss my wonderful parents by myself. Thank you for the lovely video and the beautiful work!
Sorry to hear of the loss of your father, he seems to have been one of those souls whose loss diminishes us all. Carry his light forward, and spread it as far as you can, so that his memory lives on through your work. I hope the memories of the joy you had with him will, in time, outweigh the pain of his loss.
Some of your most amazing work. And I'm so glad to see that the beer was good! It feels very appropriate, in memory of your father. ❤
I'm sorry you lost your father. Thank you for sharing about him to us. It is really great you can commemorate him with these hatchets. ❤
Fantastic and very emotional work. As always.
Utterly amazing job! I normally love your videos, but this one was art pure and simple! I too know the pain of losing a parent. It gets easier, but will always be there. A loss like that becomes part of who you are. And after a time you'll be grateful for the pain, and remembering how much they are missed.
Sorry to hear about your dad. Your sisters are extremely fortunate to have you as a brother! Hugs❤
You truly have gifted hands not only to create beautiful objects but to film and edit to showcase such skill is a rare talent.
I'm sorry for your loss. Your father must have been very proud of you. He did a great job raising a talented man.
The quality of your videos is never less than exceptional!
You were so focused on this project you didn't have a beer till the very end! And it turned out wonderful.
My deepest sympathies on your loss! Your love and pride for your sisters and their abilities made me cry. Those are gorgeous hatchets.
I'm so sorry for you losing your dad ❤ I'm certain your sisters loved those, they came out absolutely beautiful ❤️
Sending Heartfelt Prayers, Hugs and my Sincerest Condolences for the passing of your dad. Mine passed unexpectedly September 2022. I'm always impressed with your projects but you (and your sister) knocked it out of the park this time. Your Dad and Grandma are both smiling down at you.
Sorry for your loss. The axes turned out beautiful and hope your sisters will cherish them forever.
I've watched your channel since the beginning and I remember specifically that your first projects were completed in your father's workshop as you did not have a space of your own at the time. It was clear then and now that he was an enormous influence on you and your craft. My condolences on his all too soon passing. My mother passed a few years ago and was the greatest cook I've ever known so I try to honor her when I make my (rather sad) attempts at replicating her recipes. Hopefully your dad is up there with my mom now and sharing a few new recipes with her now that one day we'll both be able to try out! (My mom loved German food and could make killer sauerbraten and potato balls and pickled red cabbage!)
Fantastic work, my friend.
My condolences on the passing of your father. A hug from Spain.
You are absolutely something else. Very well done!
I'm so very sorry for your family's loss. What you've created in your father's honor is priceless. It's so hard watching that generation of men and women leave us. We are much poorer without them.
What a beautiful, thoughtful and lasting reminder of your dad.
simply emotionally beautiful.
No more words needed.
Good job mister beautifully done
I'm sorry your family has suffered this irreparable loss. What a stunning tribute to his memory.
Nice to see you back. I hope you are well and that you had thoughtful time away.
This is the best way to remember one we loved. Your craftsmanship is a testament to your father. Prost!
Sorry to hear about the passing of your dad.
This video is very well done and what and amazing restoration the finish product looked amazing.
Shows what time and hard work can create.
We lost our father very un-suddenly back in late 2021 - he'd spent years in a steady physical and cognitive decline, thanks to dexades of smoking and developing dementia and Parkinson's over the last several years of his life - and we lost our mom very suddenly back at the very end of 2000. It's always hard, whether or not you know it's coming. Much love to you and yours from over here in the US.
Beautiful finishing of the Hatchetts and the beer looked great also.
Once again: my condolences to you and your family.
Great editing on the video, really enjoyed watching it.
The outcome looks great, the handles are next level!
If I may say so: I am sure your dad would be proud.
Stay safe Doc
Great job man. Sorry to hear about your pops. It’s nice to see you make such a beautiful piece with help from your sister. Happy you guys can come together. Also thank you for putting that filter over the welding portion around the 4 minute mark. Very helpful on the eyes
Made out of love and respect. Beautiful!
I'm really really sorry for your loss, mate. All my love for you and your family from Spain. I was tempted to say your video was not that important this time but I realised it's quite the opposite. You are truly talented and your amazing work is the best way to honour your dad's memory. He's so proud of you up there ❤. Thanks for navigate through your sorrows and share this with us. Really moved.
Bravo, super, amazing work👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
Condolences to you and your family during this time. I'm sure he was a great father.
Those axes turned out great! Lovely job.
So sorry for your loss. Such a shame when he clearly meant a lot to you and after seeing him help you in the screwdriver video 😢
I thought I'd leave a comment as a like didn't seem enough. Firstly, I'm sorry for you and your families loss. Your Dad must have been a great man. He certainly has reared a very talented and close family. Secondly, I watch a few restoration channels on CZcams and have seen many axe restorations. These two axes / hatchets are without any doubt the best. The handles are objects of beauty. I'm sure your sisters will treasure them and they will become family heirlooms. All the very best.
Very nice blanks for a beginner, all your sister needs is practice (damn sure better than anything *I* could produce). VERY nice finished product, Sir. Many thanks and much respect. Condolences on losing your Dad, mine passed away several years ago and I still dream of him.
My deepest condolences for you and yours. I lost my dad 7 years ago and my grandfather last month. Remember him every day and lean on those you love. ❤
What a tribute Amazing work,! I know dad is proud!
Beautiful work and an excellent memorial.
Have no doubt: He's watching. And he's proud of you.
Not only a Handwerksmeister, but a beer connaisseur.. hats off, boys !!
Please accept my condolences for your loss, you do such an amazing job, not only with your tolls but the videography as well, each one of your videos is a joy for me to watch, I think your dad would've definetly been proud af of you
My deepest condolences for the loss of your dad.
I sadly know what it means, I'm sure he's proud of you and your sisters, they are lucky to have you as a loving and caring brother keep it up your wonderful work! ❤
Tip on your stitching: double stitching with two needles is ment to avoid sewing through the first thread with the second needle, so insert the second needle while part of the first needle is still in the same hole (at a slightly different angle, not poking yourself).
And when you punch the holes, choose something softer than a marble desktop underneath - either the marble or the punch-tips will get damaged.
I'm very sorry about the passing of your father. I hope you have the support you need.
My condolences for the loss of your father. May you and your sisters find joy in the good memories together. Your fine work will sure be a source of those memories.
amazing my brother, as long as you remember your father he will never be far, congrads on 100k followers well desivered
I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. May he rest in peace.
Two pieces of art and memory you have crafted there... Awesome stuff!
Some very skilled woodworking on those handles.
Great Family work and perfect result. A nice reminder to your dad.
Good stuff. Condolences for the loss your dad. Thank you for still making content.
Beautiful work and a wonderful tribute to your dad!
Thank you for protecting our screens with the green overlay when you weld. :D
Mis mas sentido pesame por lo de tu padre .eres un maestro excelente trabajo felicitaciones 💯👍👏👏👏🇦🇷
You are a decent and empathetic human being. I'm sure that your father was as proud of you for that as for your prodigious talent.
You'd better measure your sisters to make sure each gets the correct size hatchet 😁😉 Superb work!
Un magnifique travail du métal, du bois et du cuir et un très bel hommage touchant à votre Père. Bravo et respect. Patrick
Well done with the Welding fader.... never seen that, Nice work
Brother, sorry to hear about the sudden passing of your dad. That has to be very hard on you. I’m sorry. I remember watching the video with your awesome screwdriver where you had to run to your Pop’s place for assistance. I’m partial to that video because I restored an old screwdriver as a gift to my father, so a little bit of a connection. I’m sure he was very proud of your work.
i'm sorry you lost your dad so unexpectedly, but this is a wonderfully sentimental gift to give your siblings.
Beautiful work by you both. My warmest condolences to you, and your family for your great loss.
This is my favorite video you’ve posted so far. Absolutely beautiful work and a loving tribute to your family
Thanks a lot for watching and commenting @Jrams666
That purple heart wood is the most beautiful wood I've ever seen. The grain is amazing.
Wow unglaublich schön, ich bin gerührt und inspiriert, Danke und mein herzliches Beileid.
So sorry for your loss. A beautiful job. I'm certain he would be proud
I sent up a little prayer for your father. I'm sure he's watching over you and your sister.
Your work is absolutely stunning. I'm sure your sister will find solace in your message, and above all, in what became a beautiful siblings- project. Take care. Love from Belgium. ❤
So sorry to hear about your dad he would have loved to see that work of art you just produced. I am going to sort those tools out in the next couple of weeks I will take a photo then you can tell me what you want. Take care and stay safe mate. Tom.
So sorry to learn of your father passing.. Awesome work!!! Both pieces are beautiful !
Welcome back, a classy effort all round, from the quality of your materials and the family aspect using your sister's forgings through the video production and the reminder that dad is always with you, to the end tribute. I wonder whether dad influenced your choice of beer, that it was almost perfect, and that it seems a gift from him to you, a son he's very proud of. 10/10.
What you did for your sister is beautiful on so many levels! You cannot put a price on that! Well Done!
You know i don't often tear up during videos like this but this is a beautiful video. Not just the craftsmanship but what it all came from and stands for. Those are some beautiful hatchets my friend
Amazing job my friend congratulations 👏👏
Im sorry for your dad loss
Great job, both you and your sister. Tonight I will have a beer and prost to your father.
