    Got it. "SHUTDOWN" refers to a plant shutdown for emergency or maintenance, requiring critical plant start time...that leads to lots of OT .

    Im an IBEW Wiremen and have been paid weeks of 6-10s doing safely training only to be laid off right after. The best jobs ive had.

    So true . Welding is my primary trade . But ive done a bit of everything on jobs to fill the gaps . Keeps it interesting. Like you i was quick to say . Hey i can do that . And did .     Worked shutdowns in refineries all over the US. Great work made a shipload money. Most pay double time after 8 hours.Can make up to 100,000 in 6 months.

    Got my #welder and did my FIRST #WELD JUST NOW (and recorded it)!!! Thank you Chris!! Something as a real man I know I've needed to learn.
    I used 3/32 6013 to repair a trailer. The ONLY instruction I had is from your videos. I learn by diving head first. The welds are uglier than elephant man but hey trailer fixed. Function over form. #vocation #silver #ninjanation

    The last shutdown I went to was for Framatome out at a nuclear plant in Arizona. $40/hr, double time after 60hrs, and $150 per diem. Travel in and out was $2500. The money is definitely out there.

    I'm on shutdown right now with the pipefitters. We're getting $60 per hour for 8 hours and an extra 2 hours per day at $120 per hour. Great money, lots of experience.

      @@nashvilleguy7731 You need to be a part of a UA Local. Sometimes they will take workers on permit if the shutdown is big enough and they need extra workers.

    Love shut downs. On one now. Pipe rig welder in Canada, 24 12’s a shift, quick $30,000 a job.
    Half the time I’m welding pipe, half the time I’m snoozing in the truck waiting on something. Ha

    Managed to get in contact with someone and get a spot in a “class”, for shutdown welders I assume, with a power plant company with plants at multiple locations. At the end of said classes I will take an exam and go from there. Hopefully I pass most importantly and if I do pass hopefully there is ample work.

    Hi Taylor I’ve worker dump trailer shops and pole barn truss shops and could really use your help pointing me in the right direction as to where to get into my first shut down job I can mig weld well and sure if I picked up a stick welder sure I can pick it back up.       I would create a list of all the people that do shut down work and call them as many times as it took. Contact people that are actively working shutdowns. I haven't done a shutdown in 15 years. Not sure what's going on but that's where I would start

      I’m out of the loop as far as shut downs and turnarounds. I would find out website that listed shut downs and turn around on call everyone of them. That’s what I used to do

    How do I make the transition to pipe?
    I have at least 16 years of welding experience. No pipe really. All kinds of stuff. I started feeling out Boilermakers union last year. I have my tube cert with them.

    I'm 35 in high school I could pass my G3 plate test in FFA class since then I've been doing the commercial electrical work and have barely picked up a torch I took a maintenance job last year and I discovered the fact that again like welding I bought a Miller booster of 185k it just a little mechanic welded gas powered engine Drive I'd like to know what all companies that do that shut down work I know who does it for electrical and I've done a few plants and everything and I have my TWIC card and my OSHA 10 what companies would you suggest for me calling and getting on with doing some shutdowns I'm in central Mississippi but I'm going to travel for Louisiana for sure I have a camper and a 2010 3/4 ton with for service body on it
