- This was my best attempt at explaining the complete history of @TrickyGym's Andrew Mahone's GLC. Thanks to everyone who supported me and helped me get here.
Also there's a weird glitch around 7 minutes in, no idea why that's there.

At the 2024 Knoxville regionals. They had over 100 people playing GLC there in a side event tournament. Loved it. It was so fun .it was my first time playing this awesome format. My record was 2-2. And I missed one match because I was too busy and didn't pay attention that my next match had started.
And I didn't care that I lost those matches. Why? I lost to fun strategies... awesome opponents .who came up with great ideas. And I felt like I had a chance to beat them. It was not a shutout. To where decks where so op and too fast to where I could not win. It is a fair and balanced format. More than op standard.
I will be playing this. Do not care if it's dead or not.
Fair enough
GLC is so much more interesting right now than standard ever will be. If only players would give it a try
Yeah and also if Pokemon would fully support it
It's not really that interesting when your meta is as diverse as Habsburg gene pool.
@@10types I think it depends on your area. Most shops around me have a GLC night.
Give it a few more years. EDH was a community format for a long time before WOTC recognized it and is now mass producing cards for the format.
The issue here is that Pokemon tcg sucks as a card game so if it became popular enough to have cards printed for it then I suspect the developers would slowly rot the format with power creep.
MTG pauper is a better comparison as it creeps under the radar enough to not have cards directly printed for it.
I only play in person and GLC is by far the most fun. Games take time and strategy. It's much more satisfying from a mental stand point than using the same attack 2-3 time from the same vmax or ex pokemon.
Same, people need to wake up
It'll get a second wind when Live fully launches Expanded.
Saying glc is over is a reeeeeeeaach
I mean now it's kinda back with the simulator
I miss Pokemon Trading Card Game Online...
Me too
The pause in IRL events helped GLC & the return of IRL events took a number of players attention away from GLC
I've been playing IRL Glc for about 2 year now. I don't know about other countries, but here in Brazil it has been growing littlw by littlel. The biggest problem is that some staples started to get expensive amd hard to find, a problem that unfortunately I dont think it can be solve without pokemon company's help.
You can always play the game irl, build a handful of decks and take them to your local league. You’ll be surprise how much people get interested in the format and see that there isn’t an obvious bdif or anything that gate keeps. Not having GLC online easily does suck but there is nothing better than sitting down with a friend and slinging shiny cardboard.
I just started playing pokemon because of GLC. I don't care if can't be played online I enjoy real in person play the most.
Meanwhile I have still never tried GLC😂I’m thinking about building the Colorless control deck you showed or a Fairy control deck.
Interesting perspective. I've only played a few months at weekly in person events. We get about 8 or so people. Seems like people are still making decks online. There does seem to be a handful of "best" decks, but people are still playing around. I really enjoyed watching the recordings of the tournaments, but I do get a little sense of there being viable and not so viable decks. Which seeing good players definitely raises the awareness of those great decks. A little sad to hear that people without access to in person events can't participate so easily.
I just wanted to say that there is a playable unofficial client in the form of TCG ONE. I'm not sure how well that one will facilitate the GLC format but I play it every now and again. I use it mostly for playing old formats via the career mode and spectating some quickplay matches.
Yeah I've messed with it a little. It's not too good but it is an option
As long as people are keeping rotated cards, the format will rise again and, eventually, will be official.
Considering I could play at 4-5 GLC events a week just by playing at shops without 45 minutes of me, which is more availability than some other card games in total, I struggle to call the format dead.
Can you play expanded in tcglive now?
Unfortunately not friend matches
Expanded is available in a limited BETA version that only allows decks to be comprised of cards from the Sun & Moon, Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet sets. Therefore, no cards from X & Y or from Black & White (yet). The decks are allowed in Casual matches.
Great video! Ik it's not the same but the community maybe should focus on standard glc, it's not perfect on live but at least its a way to find games and host events online.. Also gigas/lost zone 👀
Yeah I was considering mentioning standard glc. The main reason I didn't mention it was because as far as I know, Andrew Mahone hasn't really covered it
@@10types very strange tbh, hope he hasn't lost faith.. He still does some stuff on his vod channel for glc at least, but it is tabletop
I had to change the playback speed to 0.75 to understand you. Good to leave at least a small 1 second pause after each sentence.
Hey good video, 10types. I think I only would've added that GLC became a side event at regionals and it got into the alternative rulebook for how to play Pokemon cards. The first 1K was a great way to break the COVID lockdown lul, but it got weird when Mahone didn't allow people to come to the events without a you know what card. My locals has a GLC night on Mondays, so we still play it casually, but it's definitely lost it's hype.
Yeah I was definitely considering mentioning it. It sees play in small groups but not on the large scale it used to
Honesty, if a format can only thrive in an online environment. Its already a bad format
