Payne is disgusting, not only is he not sorry, he is trying to sue, when he was clearly in the wrong. It would be so sorry to apologize, blaming a heated moment. But he assaulted a poor nurse, someone that just helps people in dire need, and then keeps abusing the people he is supposed to protect!

My mom was a career nurse and had a similar incident in California in the mid 70's. While not physically manhandled like Nurse Wubbels, the charge nurse back then was threatened with arrest but latter released with an apology. One might think that the police should know the law!! Nurse Wubbels even showed the officers the MOU between the hospital and the police force. I admire her for standing her ground!!!

The first problem was when she had to take the time to even acknowledge the officer before caring for her patient she shouldn't have had to worry about his personal feelings or whether he was agitated bottom line is that is her hospital that is her work environment it's not the streets that's what they have security for

Another "if only they were re-educated" person.
C'mon Nurse Wubbels. Police have already gone through police academy training where they were clearly told that they could be charged under the criminal code if they violated someone's rights by assaulting them, and that the thin blue line doesn't always hold.
Additionally, they have had time on the force where they have seen a lot, including other cops receiving everything from a disciplinary letter added to their file, to a dismissal from the force, or worse.
Thirdly, there is the police grapevine where news of police crimes and their resultant punishments received circulate freely.
What it breaks down to is that among police officers, there are some individuals who are psychopaths, just like among other individuls who are criminals or become criminals. Sooner or later, there is something they want to do, something that turns out to be a crime, they do it, and then they reason that they should be allowed to get away with it. This describes Jeff Payne to a T.
Re-educating or re-training these thugs will not do a thing.
    .

It says a lot about the nurses character that she’s not pursuing a suit against the Department she probably could’ve been laughing all the way to the bank, instead she wants to ensure the officers are educated further in this matter to prevent it happening again and that’s pretty amazing if you ask me 😊

She won a settlement of $500,000 dollars made up of $250,000 from the hospital (University of Utah) and the other half came from the good citizens of Salt Lake City who paid the police department and city's half of the judgement of $250,000.
Those good citizens of the town are so wonderful in giving over their hard earned tax dollars meant for civic improvements, their schools and other civic needs such as feeding the homeless and poor but I suppose those programs will be cut now.
THANK YOU Salt Lake City Good Citizens!!!!!
And you good citizens can thank your Police Department for being such assholes.
Being that an officer and an Lt. both perpetrated this crime, I hold the SLC PD supervisors and chief responsible and THEY should all be fired.
But, Officer Jeff Payne is still on the government payroll as a corrections officer.
I have an idea that the Lt. that was demoted either kept his salary or will quietly be promoted again.
If the good citizens of Salt Lake City would actually get involved in their city's business, they could do things to prevent such crimes among their entrusted PD and city government.
LIKE, organizing a civilian manned Justice Bureau to take over all IA investigations with power to fire and reprimand.
But, they probably won't cause they're lazy bastards with no civic pride but they sure like to give their hard earned tax money away.

When you look into it a little more you will find out that the person she was protecting was a reserve officer that was driving a truck. These cowards were chasing another car againstbpolicy and it hit the reserve officer in his truck killing the driver of the car. They knew they were going to get in trouble for this so they wanted to draw blood on the reserve officer/truck driver to try to pin it on him for being intoxicated. Even though they had no reason to suspect he was.

Nurse Wubbles did 100% exactly the right thing, to protect her patient, and uphold ethical standards, and the patients constitutional rights and hospital policy, which the SLCPD agreed to.
(Former) Detective Jeff Payne tried to bully, and intimidate Nuse Wubbles in to drawing blodd from an unconcious patient when Payne had no legal right or authority to do so. I am glad he was fired! He was a 100% asshole to Wubbles. I agree with other posters that he should be charged with assault and thrown in prison. Unacceptable behaviour!
This from a UK citizen, where we have similar laws here that protect us in a similar way. If police want a blood sample, they have to get a warrant from a court, or they get consent from a patient.

This shows the IQ of the adverage cop. Most of us would know you can't draw blood from someone without a legal right to do so. We'd also know that dragging and arresting a nurse simply for doing her job isn't likely the right thing to do. This was about power and his anger for a WOMAN PROFESSIONAL telling him NO. Nurses, if they're good at what they do, are their to protect you when you can't protect yourself.

Nurses are the most underpaid, overworked, and underappreciated people in the hospital work force.(other than aids) My wife is a nurse, and has had her fair share of abuse from all sides. She is the most responsible, caring, and hard working nurse out there, and that says a lot. A lot of nurses are at work for a paycheck! She has had many of them fired, and fired quite a few herself. She worked at a group home of disabled adults. Some who needed full on help, and some that just needed supervision at all times. She caught 4 nurses pulling one of the residents by her hair for pooping her pants. The dragged her by her hair and called her a retard. They were also hitting her. The first time she saw it she was scared to say something as she was a new employee and they were all there for years. So the next time she got it all on video, and reported them all. They were all fired, and 2 of them had charges pressed against them. Then she worked at a local hospital. The biggest, and nicest one in the city. I heard horror stories a many of times, and wondered how she herself treated patients.(I never thought she was abusive to be clear) One day when I went to pick her from work with our kids she wanted to introduce us to the other nurses, and her boss. On the way up when we got on the elevator. There was a family of about 9 people on there. This older lady looked at her and said you are Heather. You were my husbands nurse. She got teary eyed, and said you were the only one in the 3 weeks he has been here to treat him like a human being. She said that she was the nicest person she had ever met. She cried and gave her a hug. Literally half of the people on the elevator cried as well even me and they all thanked her, and gave her hugs. I knew at that moment that I was married to the greatest woman in the world! Even as type this, and think about that day I still cry about it. Knowing that she made that much of a difference in someone's life that she barely knew. It was so warm and so heartfelt. When we got to our floor the lady asked her to please bring her family over to her house for dinner when her husband was back at home. It was the best night I had in a very long time! I would do anything for her! Literally anything! She has my heart in her hands for as long as I am able to take breath into my lungs!
