    As a scientist (food/cosmetic ingredient R&D) working with formulas and spreadsheets most days, I forget that there are DIYers who have forgotten their 6th grade math, yet decide they want to make personal care products and cosmetics. You are their hero. I hope they buy your book, too - I did and it is superb!! And thank u for constantly reminding your audience to not DIY SPF, and that preservatives are necessary.

      @@HumblebeeAndMe Hello. I'm following step by step, but when I try to add the Average on the F Column, all of the numbers turn into the 1st number. Same thing happens with the A (weights ), also C (Percentages). It will not allow me to select the all in said Column so that I can average/percentage/sum it all up together, without doing it one by one. Please help 😥

    Anytime you want to make more videos on this subject, I am sure there are many like me that would appreciate it so much. I am working on it and trying to get it all down. Repetition is the key to learning, so I am trying to get a little time with this daily. As much computer work as I have done, I have never, ever used a spreadsheet! Some things carry over, but I am just in the dark about most of it, lol. I appreciate you. This is a very interesting subject and can't wait to work out percentages on every recipe I have. I am having a little bit of trouble with the scaling...and that probably should be the easiest part! Kudos, Marie! My request is for more, much more like this! I think it is vital to help us understand formulations in percentages and how to scale to precision ♥. Thanks for all you do!

      Awesome! My favourite thing about this method is the ability to save the formulations for super-easy search-ability. I also use the spreadsheets to store different iterations of formulations + notes about each version. I find it makes formulation evolution-both within a single formulation and as I work on developing new versions of older formulations-much faster and easier ❤️ Thanks for DIYing with me, and happy making :)

    Thank you so much for explaining this topic! I just made a new batch of my sugar scrub using the percentage method you described but it didn't turn out exactly like my old recipe. How do I add more of a specific ingredient (in my case I need to add more oil) to my finished scrub and figure out how that will affect my percentage calculation? Example, I am currently using 77% sugar, 13% oil & 9% herbal extracts, 1% preservative. But my finished scrub is too dry, so I need to add more oil which means my percentage will change and that means all the other percentages will shift too, so how do I adjust my recipe for next time based on how much more oil I need to add this time? I hope this makes sense. Any help is appreciated!! Thank you : )

    How do you decide how much water to add to a formula? Can I pick my oil % (10-30%), my emulsifier (2-6%) my preservative (0.5-2%) can I make the remaining percentage water+ glycerin +etc) this is just a rough draft but can my remaining percentage be water?

    Thank you so much for this video. This is so helpful♥️. Please, I have a question to ask and it would be highly appreciated if you could help me out🙏. How best do you advice to convert skincare ingredients that are in liquid and powdered form to percentage as compared to chucked ingredients like the beewax used in the video. Especially when the initial measurements are given in tablespoons, teaspoons, cups and ml. For example, if a recipe formulation says (NOTE: this recipe isn't a real formulation for any DIY product, it was only written for better illustration):
    ½ cup of glycerin
    5 tsp of aloe vera gel
    2 tbsp of glutathione powder
    10ml of Papaya extract
    THANK YOU, ma'am.

    This may be a dumb/simple question but I was able to understand all that you put into this video until you got to changing the batch number at the end 😅 What exactly is a batch number and what is it based upon?
    Right now I am telling myself that the batch number is dependent upon the size of the bottle we'll be using to put the product into, wanted to reach out and see if that is correct or not? (I may just be overthinking all of this)

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  Před měsícem +1

      Your batch size is based on how much you want to make-which is very often dictated by what size of container you're planning on using. It'll also vary with WHAT you're making; 100g (3.5oz) of lotion isn't a lot, but it's a lifetime supply of lip balm!
