Such a good episode.
Imagine if Davies and Moffat were co-running Doctor Who, best of both worlds, the two together always seem to balance each other out and craft peak stories.
Fish fingers and custard -- callback to the only food of many tried that the Eleventh Doctor liked after regenerating.
This one shows that both their acting can take on the dark as well as the goofy, aught to shut a few butthurt fans up😅 brilliant episode favourite one so far

Let's be honest, the butthurt fans are butthurt because the doctor's black now. There's nothing going to shut them up short of the next doctor wearing a white hooded robe and carrying a burning cross.
The debate between whether it's 'season 1' or 'series 14' gets even worse... one could equally argue that it's season 40! It's season 1 if you count starting from the move to Disney+; series 14 if you count from the the 2005 revival; and season 40 if you count from the very first episode of Doctor Who way back in 1963.
Personally, I'm in the 'season 40' camp. It's the most straightforward option imo; makes a hell of a lot more sense than "Season 1 -- no, not the _first_ season 1; the _third_ season 1".
BTW, the female soldier in this episode (Mundy Flynn) will be the Doctor's new companion next season.
She was also in Star Wars: Andor.
That was one of the best reactions videos for the episode. I should also interpret the episode as Ncuti's Doctor's stress endurance. Some lines were cringy, but still the acting was brilliant.

For those new to Doctor Who, it's the first. For long time fans, it's the fourteenth. I like the idea cause I can introduce Doctor Who to new people, and they won't feel like they have to watch all the other seasons; plus classic.
It can also be the fortieth when you consider the classic era

@@Splitgamer74 no, the Doctor warns the Great Intelligence that it will be split throughout all of time and space, and the Great Intelligence does it anyway to destroy every victory the Doctor ever had. Clara jumps in to undo what the Great Intelligence is doing, not to kill the Great Intelligence.
And if Clara can survive being torn to shreds in the Doctor's timestream, so can the Great Intelligence.
Best comparison I can think of for the series numbering is comics: This is a new #1 and a jumping on point for newbies, and if you like Volume 3, Season 1. So this episode is kind of... 3x1x3?

Kate, you’re getting different answers from people about which season it is, because for all intents and purposes it is Season 14 and carrying on the story since the show hasn’t been cancelled or put on hold since it came back in 2005. But the acquisition by Disney so they could stream it around the world, and Whoniverse branding have given it the moniker of Season 1.
So it’s weird, both answers are right.
I think they also justify the renumbering because the universe has changed with the bleed-through of magic. But I think Series 14 is fine.
...And some people count it as Season 40! =:o}

I'm calling it season 40 series 3. Series 1 being classic 2 being revived in '05 and the 3 for this run and season 40 as in it would be the 40th in the Doctor Who series as a whole. Just my two cents! Happy vibes from NC.
The difference is money. Disney+ is the new international distributor but only for New New Who. So starting off the numbering with 14 and 1-13 elsewhere doesn’t work for them. So we get multiple numberings.
New New Who (or Who+?) is 1
New Who is 14
Classic Who is 40.
I suppose you could choose whichever works for you. 🤷♂️

Disney has rebranded it as Season one, but a lot of people are just continuing with its being Series 14, and I prefer that too. If you want to include Classic Who, this is Series/season 40. :)

Lol it's not about including classic who , classic who is doctor who , it's the doctors past and the doctors memorys and how doctor who started toymaker from classic, daleks from classic, ace and Tegan classic, the master from classic , and weather people say season 1 or 14 doctor who still includes plenty from classic because classic IS doctor who it is the doctors history it's apart of his life and everything in the show is from back then too , Susan , toymaker , daleks, so on...

Should still be season 14 of nuwho. Even classic didn't suddenly revert back to series 1 just cos there was a new doctor and writers. I think only in hiatus did they start it again from season 1. Of doctor who goes off air again for 5 or more years it may the officially be season 1 again but til then far as concerned it's season 14

Chemistry? Chemistry? What Chemistry? There is no chemistry from square 1. "Im the Doctor" minces round the Tardis for Jelly Head to not even notice its bigger on the inside. Zero decent character building direction or dialogue. Plots non existent. Woke dei political message came first and they wrote the plot around it. Ncuti was great in other things but he lacks the Gravitas in his delivery to pull off the Doctor making him unbelievable. Partly because he cant keep his accent consistent, its all over the place.
Also the dialogue is weak at best. Moffat improved that but the damage is already done. Oh gods the pacing and editing, so bad in the first 2 episodes the tardis forgets to wheeze.
Oh, pause and have a look at that body canister. Its a FleshLite - a bedroom toy.
What RTD has done is create Mocktor Who.
