In this guitar lesson you will learn how to play Wagon Wheel on acoustic guitar. Wagon Wheel is a great acoustic guitar song that you definitely want to know how to play as a guitar player.
Wagon Wheel has been covered by many artists over the years. It was originally partially written by Bob Dylan, but then finished by Old Crow Medicine Show. Most recently it has become very popular due to the cover by Darius Rucker.
Wagon Wheel only has four chords through the entire song, making it simple to play on acoustic guitar. I will show you the four chords you need, but also a simpler more efficient way to play those chords on guitar.
The strumming pattern is a little more complicated, but I will also show you a simplified version of the strumming pattern, so even if you are a brand new beginner on guitar, you will be able to play this song.
If you are wanting to learn how to play Wagon Wheel on acoustic guitar, you will want to watch this beginner guitar lesson.

Thank you. I struggle with a c major cord because of a hand injury. The c add 9 has really helped!

You have over complicated a beautiful song...4 finger chords are totally unessasry...beginners are now going to avoid this song...terrible advice!! I've played this song for years by the way...

Thanks for watching! I don't know if you watched the whole video, but I do show the traditional ways to play Emin and C major too. However, I think these alternatives are awesome for beginners! I have taught for a lot of years and have had great success with beginners learning this way. Even though they are 4 note chords, by anchoring the ring finger and pinky, you are only needing to move 2 fingers, which is very simple. Most beginners really struggle with a traditional Cmaj chord, but a Cadd9 is much easier. You can even see comment from a beginner on this video saying just that! The great thing about guitar is there are lots of different ways to play the same thing. What works well for some doesn't for others. Different chord voicings aren't wrong, they are just different. Thanks for watching!

You have over complicated an otherwise beautiful critiquing comment. Three periods (full stops) in a row is totally unnecessary. If a beginner reader sees this comment they will avoid learning learning literacy all together. I've been speaking english my whole life by the way.

I do apologise, I've only taken up English most recently. My opinion is my opinion and I've taught guitar for many years. My point was that 4 finger chords are something that comes with practice, not off the bat.....sorry, just couldn't help myself!!

No problem! Like I said, there’s lots of ways to do things on guitar and a lot of it is personal preference. Personally, I find this method to be great for beginners because of those anchor points but your experience may be different. Whatever works for you personally is the best way to do it!
