Jill studied violin from the age of three, and her teacher did not like sheet music and forced her to play by ear. As a result, she has an absolute ear for melody, and as she said: I can play the sound of rain if I hear it

LOL - thanks for the memory. Shiren was the ONLY one that didn't Torch Jill in that 'What is ___ Like?' video. I guess that shows just how much they Love her!

QUADRATUM is quite different from UM because it's a spin-off unit without not only Fuki but also Shiren, who does composition, guitar and growl. It's characterized by having Jill in the center and doing covers of famous songs.
UM and its related bands have many elements that require a lot of Japanese context to fully understand. They are also bands that are primarily aimed at a Japanese audience. They are technically superior bands, so there are many parts that people who like this kind of music can enjoy, but if you're not someone who shares that context, the range of enjoyment is significantly narrowed. You may also often see people making off-target criticisms or going off on tangents. The reason why you can't enjoy some songs, or find them inferior to others, may be because you don't share the context.
I think QUADRATUM can be recommended to people who are not very familiar with UM, as there are many aspects of it that can be enjoyed without much Japanese context.

They can be enjoyed by anyone who loves music. Don't overthink it.

@@ChrisPage68 Though when I shared the studio version with a school classmate of mine who has payed the bills for 40 plus years teaching middle school orchestra and playing Syracuse symphony (under her hubby the late concert master), I got a whole bunch of blow back from people my age (late 60's) down the mid 30's calling it a bad rip off of Trans Siberian Orchestra. That group has a long history of working with the elementary and middle schools in upstate NY. On the up side one TSO member did weigh in to defend the work.

Isn't it the reaction videos that show us that no matter how "amazing" the music is and how much the listener "purely loves the music", the barriers of indifference and prejudice still exist?

Jill can play DANCE OF ETERNITY with her eye's closed, in fact in a live stream she did it wearing a blindfold. czcams.com/users/live8eZVVtaOBKk?feature=share&t=1453
Both songs are off an EP/album they released, called "Loud Playing Workshop", or as Ogawa the bassist calls it Jill Promotional Workshop, which they released a few videos from. Fuki singer said that the violin is the voice of the EP, so she did not have to sing. I don't think there will be another EP like this from them, as Fuki was the one who had to go around all the record companies to ask for permission to play the songs, something she does not want to do again. But never mind they have done their own tracks, usually 1 on each album, with just the 4 of them playing, Spartan Army being very popular.

Great points! This band is not only musically tight, but they are all such Great Friends, who just happened to meet playing music together. The videos they do for their fans individually, and of the guys playing video games together, and my favorite - the Drinking Parties where they make up drinks and play word games, are super entertaining (if you are an Ankimo fan).

This one was actually performed during an Unlucky Morpheus performance and was used to give Fuki and Shiren a break during the set. But yes, I agree that a lot of the Japanese bands don't rest when something happens with one of the bandmembers either. Nemophila did a couple of quartet performances while vocalist Mayu was away on maternity leave and Gacharic Spin performed with a temporary drummer or Hana back on drums (for their album) when their new drummer yuri was on maternity leave.
As far as the Dance Of Eternity performance goes, I think Jill was trying to match her tempo to the bass and guitar (when she was looking over) because they were slightly off from each other, but eventually they matched back up. And like other have said, Jill has performed this on stream blindfolded, so I am sure she practiced this a lot. Also, the bassist is originally a jazz bassist, so he is more than capable of playing most things, he just doesn't get a lot of opportunity to show off.
As far as Quadratum goes, they released one album with only covers in 2021, which are all pretty technical.
    1. Far Beyond The Sun (by Yngwie Malmsteen)
    2. The Dance Of Eternity (by Dream Theater)
    3. Into The Arena (by The Michael Schenker Group)
    4. Hundreds Of Thousands (by Tony MacAlpine)
    5. Scarified (by Racer X)
    6. Eruption (by Van Halen)
    7. For The Love Of God (by Steve Vai)
    8. Technical Difficulties (by Racer X)
    9. 17th Century Chicken Pickin' (by Impellitteri)
A lot of people also really like their "Far Beyond The Sun" and "For The Love Of God" covers, me included. I don't believe there is a live versions of those, but the music video is great as well.

Guys, I know you've seen UM before so you are not first watching JILL play. For your info, she is NOT struggling. You need to understand. She is a bona fide graduate of the number one top Art and Music University in Japan who also has won violin competitions. Yes, she has a music degree. The girl's been playing violin since she was three years old. NO, she is not struggling. She can play this blind folded. There is a live stream she did where she did that.

    • @myindieprodentertainment
      @myindieprodentertainment  Před rokem +1

Never said she was struggling. Listen more carefully. I was referring to the look in her eyes in a certain spot that "looked like" she was either slightly behind OR the boys were, and I CLEARLY say "I think she was looking at them, trying to make sure that THEY keep up." It just looked that way, I'm not even saying that's what it was.
We heap a lot of praise on her and her playing talent, it's just funny that people pluck one word out of a sentence and run with it. We LOVE Jill, UM and now Quadratum. Sometimes it helps if viewers listen better and hear what we're ACTUALLY saying and not run with anything that MIGHT sound remotely negative. Everything we had to say here was positive. A few people commented about that, but that is just "selective hearing". Seriously. We are not experts in music to be able to say when such fantastic artists are struggling.
All that being said, we truly appreciate you taking the time to view and comment. We work very hard at getting these episode out, yet sometimes it feels like some people just try to find something negative (not saying that is the case with you), which can be a little frustrating.
Rest assured, we love Jill and the rest of her band and would never disrespect her or them in any way. Best regards from Israel and Australia.

I am glad that y'all enjoyed this video. Although all are world class talents, this was the Jill show from start to finish. There are music videos of both of these covers (as well as Jill playing blindfolded during a live stream) but this is my favorite. Are Jill and Lindsey Stirling the best rock/metal violinists in the world? Although Lindsey Stirling uses primarily electric violins and sometimes acoustic, Jill uses acoustic all of the time. I greatly respect her dedication to acoustic since it is more unforgiving than electric, especially at that speed. Another Japanese musician that should be known worldwide but is not.
