In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to Unlucky Morpheus.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

I saw Unlucky Morpheus live in their one show they have ever play outside Japan, in London at a Japanese metal festival, they were are such a great band live. One of the things that I really liked about them was you could tell that everyone on stage are good friends with each other, I find that does add something to a performance. They are a band that you get the feeling would be happy to play for 1 man and his dog.
There are another 2-3 members of the band, 2 are the founders of the band a singer and another guitarist, the 3rd is another singer and rarely seen. They are not normally a prog band, but refer to themselves as a technical speed metal band. They are a small band and a bit off a rarity in today's world, that they are not really interested in world domination, and are surprised by the number of overseas fans that they have. The band is a totally independent band, writing, recording, production and distribution are all done by them, you have to buy their CD from small shops in Japan, and only in the past couple of years released some of their catalog to spotify.

Technically these 4 members side project playing covers they call themself Qudratum. If You can get the CD, it is amazing! They have some musicvideos under the Quadratum name on The Unlucky Morpheus CZcams channel.

They showed a very high level of performance.
I think this is the best dream theater cover.

I would like to see them cover some Kansas tunes. That violinist would tear that up.
Ps, they could borrow Ryo Okumoto (Spock’s Beard) for the keyboards.

Two of the members can play keyboards, the drummer and a guitarist (who is not in this video), also one of the backroom staff they have is one of the best keyboard players in Japan Mao. Mao was in Light Bringer, he also works with Lovebites. He plays in this czcams.com/video/X0Au0903KXw/video.html by the way the singer is the singer from Unlucky Morpheus.

Wow. 😳 The pitiful amount of applause at the end was a crying shame. That performance brought down the house!!!👏👏👏👏

You don't hold the violin up with the fingering hand; it's held against the shoulder with the chin. They're very light (I play both instruments...), but it's still a physical instrument to play, for sure. Jill is a _superb_ violinist...classical concert quality.

Jill studied violin from the age of 3, and her teacher did not like sheet music and forced her to play by ear. As a result, she has absolute pitch, probably even melodic pitch, and as she says, I can even play the sound of rain if I hear it. She even played it blindfolded

And despite her youthful appearance, she’s actually 41 as of Feb. 2024. So, yeah… she’s been doing this a very long time.

Unlucky Morpheus is one of the best bands around. An absolute killer to see live -- and definitely on my bucket list! All of the musicians are world class, but Jill, the violinist, is at the top of her game, and frequently steals the show. Then throw in Fuki with her incredible vocals -- how can you possibly improve on that? Just an amazing band all around.

I went to the UK to see them just before everything... really glad i took that trip(i live in Edmonton, AB) Everyone was amazing and i don't think Fuki even needs a mic :P Ive been lucky to also see Gacharic Spin 7 times so far :) Even pop music in Japan can be pretty progressive at times. One thing i notice is that jazz is alot more relevant in the Japanese scene, so it pops up alot. I recommend checking out Zutomayo, here is a live performance czcams.com/video/_WQNWVZqw4Q/video.html

great reaction Dean, a while ago you reacted to the song VINUSHKA by the band dir en grey, how about giving it a second chance and reacting to their song [Macabre live sub eng]? it's a progressive masterpiece, greetings

It would be nice to have a reaction from "Hyperion" by Light Bringer, another band that Fuki, the lead singer of Unlucky Morpheus, is a part of.
They are a prog/power metal band.

Lucky enough to see them headlining Metal Matsuri in 2019. They are electric. Jill is easily the best rock/jazz/fusion violinist in the world today, the real heir to Jean-Luc Ponty.

To "Get It" you have to watch/listen to the originals. This was at a celebration for Fuki's, vocalist, birthday. Jill is a graduate of the Tokyo School of the Arts, THE music school in Japan and reportedly at the top of her class.
