    I love the chime of the Tex Mex. I wonder how much the guitars effect the time. The white strat sounds so great. And that chime. Which i love goes to the Tex Mex. 100$ pups. Wow.

    I love 62s in both positions. They have some raw energy and spirit of rock and roll.

    I thought the TexMex in both positions was the one if I had to choose just one. I think it gave the most punch, the original was the brightest, and the Oswald was defo the thickest. But if I had to pick just one, the TexMex 👍

    Tex Mex bridge sounds amazing to me!
    Vintage 1962 neck and Oswald neck are my favorite in that position.
    All sound amazing. Thanks for a great tone comparison, Dave!

    My favorites are the 1962 pickups (in both tested positions). I like the brilliant tone they produce. They also seem to be more dynamic. The Oswalds are too muffled for my taste and the Tex Mex too much upper mid-range focused. The lows are also not so muddy with the 1962s.

    Favourites: 1962 bridge, Oswald neck.However I think the differences could probably be mostly eliminated with fine tuning the pickup heights. This further adds weight to my recent realisation that my Squier Bullet Strat pickups are all I really need.

    Looking for pickups for my first actual fender strat parts build. I thought I'd check some of your videos out. I liked the original 62's best, the Tex Mex sounded very similar while the Oswalds were a bit darker and less clear and defined. I wish you had some Fender 57/62's in your comparisons. The Tex Mex and 57/62's are the ones I am mostly considering at the moment.

  • @marcavus1
    @marcavus1 Před 11 měsíci

    Tex Mex are my favorite strat pickups. Cost a little less because they're plastic bobbins but they do have an advantage as you can adjust the pull pieces up or down and making flat and get more even balance under strings.

    Sound is subjective of course but I always like the sound of old bridge pickups. The 62 by a hair ( not 20K better though)
    I usually love Tex mex ( have them in my tele) but they were strangely bright here. All sound great

    Hello young Dave. Have just travelled back in time to say I like the tex/mex best for the 'clang' effect that some pickups produce. Have just bought a loaded pickguard with tex/mex for £120 and put it in a Jap strat. Well worth it. Here in 2023 everything has turned to shite.

  • @taykoliko
    @taykoliko Před 5 lety +3

    I thought all three were fine sounds. I think I liked the Tex Mex pickups the most in Mr. White. They sounded more animated with more definition between the notes of the chords. I liked the extra jangle they had in them. But I might think different if you played solos with them all.

    When doing a pickup comparison, always make sure you have an oppressively heavy blanket of reverb and delay, to create such an indistinct blur that the sound of the pickups is completely buried.

    For Bridge clearly the 62. The Oswalds sound a little muffled, the TexMex a little too bright.

    An interesting test on the Darrell Braun youtube site where he tested a strummed chord on one guitar several times and each time he cut off more of the guitar body. The recorded results looked pretty identical regardless of the amount of body wood.

  • @sadfvsdavn
    @sadfvsdavn Před 5 lety +1

    For me the 62 are the "best", they had the perfect balance between fatness and clarity. The Oswald pickups are kind of muddy, and the Tex Mex feel like there's something missing. But in the end they're all just different and you can compensate everything with the amp EQ. I guess you made the settings with the 62 strat, because for me they sounded the "most correct" (John tone)

  • @johncartelli
    @johncartelli Před 5 lety +1

    on my computer speakers the tex mex for bridge, the 62 sounded too bright,,,the oswald too muddy.. the tex seemed a better balance....neck 62...nope.. couldnt hear enough of a difference tween the oswaldys and the texers (again could be just my computer speakers)...so my vote goes with the Tex's for both

    The 62 was more rounded, but I preferred the Tex Mex the most. It sounds very similar to my Strat, which is a 69 MIM Re-issue, it just has that clear Stratocaster tone which is why I picked it in the first place.
