The tape measure scene had me dying, so damn funny.
It was funny, but it was also so stupid and badly written imo.
@@mrkos87 I like the scene because it shows you very clearly for the first time what the main commentary of the movie is. But I don't really like how the film starts to take a comedic tone in the second act... not my cup of tea really!
@@LegalVampire I think the point of the movie was to trip you out so you couldn't really figure out what was going on. that's why the tone kept changing (even the scene when they're in the water tower was a completely different tone). I think it was just meant to be random
It showed how unlikeable and greedy is AJ.
@@mrkos87 Badly written ? It looks like we didn't watch the same movie, The unpredicatable plot, the themes, the characters and villains arcs, the dialogues, the layers of horror, nothing is badly written in this movie.
We need more movies of that level of quality.
This movie will be talked about 10 to 50 years from now, it is so good it is timeless like Men, X, Get Out, Midsommar, Hereditary, The Conjuring, The Ring(2002), Halloween(the first one), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre(1974), A Nightmare On El Street or Friday the 13th to name a few other timeless gems.
Yall I got to watch this last night at an Alamo Drafthouse early screening...every horror fan on the planet needs to go see this. Not because it's the best horror movie ever made but because it's maybe one of the most fun viewing experiences in recent years and it's so incredibly shocking and very unpredictable. It's an absolute blast and I HOPE it's a box office hit.
Sold!
Iâm see it
Now that sounds promising!!!!! đđđ
Me and another horror fan are going to this on a first date. I hope itâs a good one!!
I want to see it but I canât handle extreme gore and Iâm afraid that if I try to find out the gore level I might find spoilers đ
If Emma is scared đš ! I'm all in.
+1 I'm with you on this.
Me too!
You bet!!!!!
Be afraid!!!
Big same
We need more comedians to write/direct (Jordan Peele, John Krasinski and now, Zach Cregger) a horror movie. They have the most messed up and creative minds simultaneously lol
I'm seeing it this weekend.
Agreed 100%!! Comedians can be some of the most morbid and twisted people out there! Said as a compliment of course đ€
Jordan Peele sucks he needs to stick to comedy..
Peele been trash for a bit
Horror and comedy run on the same engine. Shock and timing.
Yep, I agree we need more of that!
Ever since I saw the trailer I've wanted to see this movie. Then I saw the reviews from people who saw it before it hit theaters and I really wanted to see it. Then I saw Zach Creggar (of wkuk fame) directed this movie and I was like Man I GOTTA see this movie. Then Emma is like it's super scary and I can't take it anymore, I'm seeing this movie tonight.
Just saw it ! Theater worthy
Did you find it scary? I enjoyed it a lot but wasn't very scary.
@@pamelaboden I found the first half scary, the second half not so much. I actually also felt like there was a lot of set up and not really any pay off, so I'm personally a little let down :/
Itâs not that scary honestly and I would say itâs more of a horror comedy lol đ
@@viridianloom I couldnât keep from laughing on the second half đ€Ł I was trying sooooo hard to not laugh and the funniest was Jake Longâs character.
I liked it. It was a fun movie but i didnt think it was scary, but then again i dont get scared by any movies these days. It kinda reminded me of that UK movie set in the train station called Creep, it came out in 2005.
exactly how i felt
This film was like a 90 minute anxiety attack! (in the best way possible) Very original, loved the contrasting styles & transitions and the tension was delish đ©âđł
I saw this movie today and I have to admit I do not get the glowing reviews its getting. I guess im missing something because I thought it was quite awful. The 1st act was tense but then you get to the big twist and the movie fell off a cliff for me. Would have rather they stuck with the original idea they teased before the twist. There was one particular part in the movie that had something to do with a bottle and I almost walked out. It was painfully bad. Other than maybe 2 jump scares there was nothing that scary about the film. I had high hopes for it so yeah I am a bit perplexed, not at all what I thought.
Dead on, Iâm seriously beginning to think these people giving the reviews and the videos were paid off or something lol. Every review is like âOMG there are so many twists and turns and OMG!â Um, thereâs really not. This movie is so overhyped itâs ridiculous. Like you, I loved the first 30 mins/1st act, great tension between Skarsgaard and the main girl then it gets ridiculous and corny. You canât make a horror movie and continue to throw in humor, give me one or the other. I was hoping Skarsgaard was ultimately a bad dude and was going to mess with the girl down there but not make it obvious he was. Instead we got something stupid. Oh well!
just watched this movie recently and it was weird it had me on the edge of my seat in the beginning but than turned into something else and at the end of the movie I walked out saying WTF did I just watch but it never got boring it had great acting it had me tense for a long time and I liked it definitely worth watching.
Ya the second half just turned weird, for those ready to flame I 100% understand the ending.
I love that every movie reviews Iâve seen is âwatch without knowing!â
And good god, the only thing I knew was âIâm not going in the basementâ
Such a crazy ride to go on
I honestly liked it, I havenât covered my eyes and my ears while watching a scary movie since I was a kid but this one did it đ
This is when I know the movie was relly good and scary. lol
i keep waiting for a horror movie to actually scare me âŠ.still waiting . they could have made this SOOO much scarier
I'm in the same camp as you. I found it entertaining and Justin Long was great. Never got scared and the one thing that bugged me afterwards was who double booked the house đ his realtor said it hadn't been booked in months? The occupant sure didn't do it! Guess I am knit picking?
Iâve watched enough of your reviews to notice when youâve seen something special. Iâm dying to see this now, hell yeah!
Loved your technical details.
*served neat* A+
đ„čđ„čđ„č
Itâs not that scary honestly. This movie is more of a horror comedy. All the hype will have you believed itâs the scariest of all time but itâs not lol đ I would give it a 7/10, if you believe all the hype youâre for sure gonna leave disappointed.
Loved every bit of it. My audience gave it a standing ovation. What happens in Barbarian makes me fear AIR BNBs almost as much as the cleaning fees nowaydays
Omg thatâs awesome
I genuinely hadn't heard of this film until you and a bunch of other youtubers started reviewing it, and I'm honestly so excited for it arghhhhh! Thank you for putting this on my radar, can't remember the last time you rated something so consistently highly in all categories!
Thanks Emma you've piqued my curiosity again. I only hope it will show up in the theatres here.
I was having high hopes for this movie so watching this gets me so much more hyped/anxious to see it đ
I really hope everyone enjoys it as much as me
You better saddle up because this oneâŠ.phewâŠjust settle in because this is a dark ride.
I was disappointed... it's so cheap đ
AHHH I only heard about this film a few days ago, and the trailer REALLY intrigued me with how little it revealed. I've heard so much praise for it, and now seeing the approval of one of my absolute favourite horrortubers has made me so excited to see this in theatres. Last time I was truly scared was probably in Hereditary, so if this can reach that same level I'll be overjoyed đđ€
You really sold this movie, wow, you really deserve more credit for the work you do
Thank you.
Omg I was looking for more info on this one. It's like you read my mind. I love your reviews đ€©đđŒ
Wow, Emma! Thank you so much for this recommendation! Now Iâm extremely excited đ
I almost passed this one over because of the title. I had no idea it was a horror movie! Your review has me really excited. Sounds like my kind of movie!
Thanks, Emma. I've been looking forward to "Barbarian" for some time, now; and, after your comments on the matter, can't wait for it to hit the theaters. -- Cheers!
Another great Emma review! When Emma is excited I am very very excited đđđ
This is the most excited I've been for a horror film all this year!! The way you described it has me so hyped đ if you gave it a scare score of 9 then it must be really creepy. I dont know when it's out in the UK but I hope its soon. This is the only review I'll watch because i dont want to know anything about it, and I trust your videos wont give anything away.
Emma..That was a terrific review. It was obvious from the Get Go that you loved the film but your review was so impressive. It blows me away how good you are...Psychological horror is my thing and it's been awhile since we've had a good one. I am definitely heading to the theater as soon as its available here.
So happy to hear this! I was really hoping this would be a good one.
Thanks as always, Emma. Time and time again, I have come to listen to your advice because I know you have excellent taste (not always the case with CZcams reviewers). With the HORROR genre, you really have to be careful because there's so much crap out there. Anyhoo, thanks again.
Just my opinion but It lost me when I thought about how nutrition works, how gravity works (water tower), and some really stupid decisions by the main characters. To be fair, they acted fairly realistic for once while still overall making bad decisions. The twists were clever but not mind blowing.
I saw this in an extreme digital XD theater and that made such a difference. There were parts where the seats literally shook adding into the tension. I loved it!
Loved it! Always agree with your reviews Emma! đ
I went into this film as blind as possible and I'm so glad I did it! I gasp throughout the entire movie and I watched it with my jaw on the floor, one of the best horror movies of the year.
Seeing this tonight and Iâm hyped! Been a big fan of Zach Cregger for years. Great review Emma!
Since I have started watching your reviews on CZcams, I don't remember when you gave such a high score of 9/10 for a film. I was waiting for this film, but not the same way as I'm now. After watching your review, my anticipation has gone higher. Can't wait!
I have given it out maybe 5 times ? Since I started my channel, a lot of the films I love the most I saw prior to having a channel or arenât horrors
Thanks for the review am definitely checking this one out, I also heard some early review that audience a comparing it to the the Shining, So excited for this movie
Wow the shining! Thats some
big shoes to fill!
I been so ready for this
I loved the choice for the final song. Perfect, It made me smile.
Great analysis Emma! Glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
Also saw this at an early screening at the Alamo yesterday and I agree, this film was so much fun to watch!
Nice review! It really was a wonderful movie. For some reason, I kept thinking of Malignant, because it was another example of a director having their actual vision for the movie realized. Barbarian was the most fun my wife and I had in the theatre all year, so would definitely agree it's worth seeing in cinema if you can safely do so.
So glad you loved this movie!! I came out of the theater smiling ear to ear. Is that weird?? Whatever, I was so pleased with this one. I canât wait to watch it again!
SO HYPE!!!! Canât wait for this one! Thanks Emma!!đ€đ€đ€đ€
I caught an early screening of Barbarian this evening and absolutely loved it. What a brilliant movie.
IM SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS SATURDAY
Im in the UK and just seen this today. What a film. The first part i was so on edge and it just changed then changed and changed again. Loved it.
Wow... for you to say this, it has me hype. Might go today instead of waiting until tomorrow.
After the "reveal" and the "switch", I was legitimately stunned
Thanks for this review Emma! I am really excited to see this, especially based on how much you enjoyed it!! I don't think I've really been *scared* watching anything since seeing Hereditary in theaters the day it came out. That was incredible.
Haha I mentioned the exact same thing in my comment with regards to Hereditary đ One of my favourite theatre experiences BECAUSE of how freaked out I was. Hoping that Barbarian can match that energy!
Hereditary is to date the scariest film Iâve ever seen. Barbarian wasnât very scary at all IMO. But it was fun.
Just saw I loved it! You hit the nail on the head pulls at every emotion
I saw the trailer and really did not feel like it was going to be anything special, but to hear you praise it so highly Emma, I cannot wait nowđ
Okay first you got me pumped for Martyrs and Let the Right One In to watch and they are now my favourite movies of all time. Last week you talked about See Know Evil in September releases and now this Barbarian review has me pumped for two more! Thanks Emma!đ€
I saw this Thursday night in Dolby and it was awesome! I was scared then laughed and cheered toward the end. Good review.đ
Finally! So much fun.
Interest absolutely peaked, thanks for a great review Emma
this movie was scary but it's after i left the theater that it stayed with me. the implications acknowledged in the plot of the film and some of the themes are haunting and unsettling and have left me thinking about it and unsettled for days
Finally a good horror film?!!, Emma, you raised the bar of expectationsđ€ very excited to C.
This film looks amazing! Bill Skarsgard is too good, canât wait! Great review!
Emma, you are so good at what you do đ
I can't get enough of this movie, I'm watching all the reviews! Kinda regret not watching it when it first came out and seeing it with a big crowd. I saw it 2 weeks it came out in the middle of a Tuesday and there was only 3 other people in the theater with me and one of them walked out and only came back when the credits started
They probably walked out because it was hot trash đ they wanted to avoid the dumpster fire
When the credits rolled...I just couldn't speak. I couldn't form words to describe anything. I didn't know what the hell I just watched. But I knew it was terrifying and brilliant
bought some tickets to watch it today. your recommendations never failed me, canât wait to see it!
Cant wait to see this⊠Justin is on his way to be a horror icon
Say hi for me if you see him
He is already! Jeepers Creepers, Tusk, Drag Me to Hell, Barbarians. đ
Emma is in full horror host mode here. And I love it! Also I loved the first trailer, but I'm not going to watch anymore!
Enjoy!
i'm a chickenshit when it comes to horror but had to go and see this movie, was 'scary' in the best way of being a complete rollercoaster rather than going for gore or cheap jumpscares. absolutely recommend if anyone is considering it. and definitely try and watch in a cinema the audience reactions are priceless.
Great review havenât seen this movie yet but it looks good from the trailers quick question which horror film do you like more barbarian or the black phone
I mean if youâve seen my reviews itâs obvious! This one!
Excellent review. Iâve been excited to see this one since I saw the initial trailer and it advertised that members of the production team worked on IT Chapter 1, the grudge, and the Ring. I love all three of these films and the The Ring is my second favorite horror movie of all time and the movie that scared me the most out of any film. I thought Barbarian was a fantastic film and I agree with your rating. Unfortunately this one didnât scare me all that much. There were definitely some tense spots, but it never hit my main type of scare though. With that being said it was a quality film top to bottom and I think you said it best with how immersive it is. Good stuff!
Zach is awesome. Very excited to see his horror directorial debut.
0:05 or from the franchises themselves like âTheir most sinister case yetâ,
Iâm thinking âI think you said that last timeâ đž
Thanks for this. Can't wait!
I was going back and forth on whether or not I should watch this in theaters, just because I didnât want to spend so much money on something I only wanted to see bc of Bill Skarsgard (oops!) but this review has definitely convinced me! I hope to see it this weekend.
Itâs honestly a privilege to see films like this at the cinema! It might not even come out in Australia in cinemas. It will be so glorious on big screen. Enjoy!
faith s ⊠Bill was the reason I went to see this ⊠I love the horror genre and always have AND I adore Bill, so it seemed like a win/win.
I was not a fan of this and I am not happy with what they did with Billâs character. I hope you enjoy the movie though. Iâm just disappointed.
Barbarian is my favorite movie of the year so far. I hope word of mouth makes more people check it out.
Wow I can't wait to see this!
Looking forward to seeing this. A new subscriber to your channel ...you're awesome!!!
Thanks Tammy welcome!
Emma getting us SO excited for another new movie!!!!!
The first 30 seconds of your review convinced me đ went to look up showings and found an early showing for today near me and saw it! Wow! Such a crazy fun anxiety inducing ride.I thought I knew what was happening in this movie like 5 different times
Yessss! Full of surprises!
The moment I finished this movie I thought "wtf was that. I can't believe it's rated 7,2 stars out of 10!!" And I instantly went to tiktok to find people who talked shit about it. And there were not many, so I thought there was something wrong with me for hating it (while I'm usually into weird movies). But the more I analyse it and look into it (theories & inside info) the more I actually like it đ It has finally grown on me.
Honestly to me this looks like some sort of Pascal Laugier meets Lucky McKee. in a slightly less effective way. But it's just my opinion.
I saw it tonight. WOW!!!! It was a cool experience. I love that there was no CGI. Character development was fantastic and it took a few twists that weren't easy to figure out right away. I like that it took it's time building tension, but I do think the overall run length was it's achilles heel if it had one. 3/5 stars!!!!
This review gave me chills.
This one has me on pins and needles. Canât wait
I canât wait to see it!
I saw this today. It was an unpredictable wild ride with sudden tone shifts, that can take you out of the film, but I loved them. They added to the mystery. I believe this is Tarantino's gift the film industry: mixing and matching tones, light and dark, comedy neighboring evil. It does take a deft hand to pull it off. I also like how the film played against type, against expectations, of the two male characters, Bill Skarsgard and Justin Long. There is a moment in the final scene that completely shocked me. I'll leave it there, go watch it.
Yeah, totally seeing this Friday bc if Emma is this excited, we know it's good.
Thanks for the recommendation Emmdog
So hyped to see this film
Holy shizzz!..9/10, 9/10, 8/10, AND Emma covered her eyes for a moment! I can not recall another film when she said she's done that. I can not frickin wait to see this
Yeah and I was only able to watch it at home! At the cinema will be amazing
Thank you for this!
This movie rules. Saw it last Saturday. If you go in as blind as possible, you will not be able to guess anything that will happen. The pacing is brilliant, top notch atmosphere, legit scares, legit laughs. The movie comes so close to going off the rails but it's also restrained in the best possible way. Absolute masterpiece IMO, the movie just works and is super engaging.
Barbarian was freaking fantastic!! I loved it and thought it was brilliantly done! I couldnât guess what was gonna happen next and it was insane what happened in the film!! The story was insane and I loved it! I have nothing but praise for this film!
It's a film that kept me guessing and cautious about characters. It made me jump multiple times which is RARE for me. I was pleasantly surprised!! Woah boy, I was on the edge of my seat in the beginning and was allowed to take a breath when Justin longest character is introduced. So good
bot
Iâm so excited for this one! Going this Sunday blind!
I was not very excited about this movie but after your review I can't wait to go to the cinema. Hopefully it will have a cinema release in Brazil
exciting! âș
Great review, I like your style and enjoyment of the subject. I saw this yesterday at 3:30 in the afternoon, and the theater was mostly empty BUT there were 3 female teenagers in there who couldn't sit still. Every time the suspense or violence ramped up, I kid you not they'd RUN to the door and leave the theater, only to creeeep back in with their eyes locked terrified at the screen, hoping the scary stuff was over. This process happened 3 or 4 times. I absolutely adored this film, and especially the entire Saarsgard part was an absolute masterclass in tension. The cinematography and sound design for that entire section of the story were flawless in every way. Great, great film. But...
GO IN BLIND. I knew nothing but the teaser trailer several weeks before finally seeing the movie, so I didn't know a damn thing. This is *very important* for this movie to be enjoyed most.
When I watched the trailer and saw the part where the protagonist was walking down the tunnel under the house, I kept expecting she was going to find Conan the Barbarian down there strangling Bill Skarsgard or something.
Bahaha
9?! wow. i can't wait to see it!!
Cant wait to watch this one!
Wow!!!! 9/10 for scare, Emma!!!! Do you know how long I've been chasing the dragon????!!!! this is now on the agenda for this weekend! thx much
Hahaha hope you feel the same
I stopped watching this review at 0:50. It was perfect, you answered the question in your title, straight to the point: thank you!!!
I simply stopped watching so I can see the movie with modest expectations, without being overhyped and disappointed. You rock, thanks again!
Love this
