Mastering Precision: Setting Up the Incra Miter 1000HD

- I have been researching a good quality Miter Gauge and I have finally made a decision and invested in the Incra MITER1000HD. This version comes with an allumium fence with a 31 inch capacity and a dual flip stop. Most of all the protractor plate's exclusive AngleLOCK Indexing System has a whopping 180 can't-miss angle stops in 1 degree increments with special stops located at 22-1/2 degrees. In this video, I will be unboxing, setting up and testing its initial cut.

Nice video - My fence needed a true-up after 6 years. Your track adjustment tips work quite well. To square the mitre fence the instructions have you loosen the 4 bolts at the scale - not the 2 you indicated. This was what I needed to do. Otherwise very helpful.

This is a really excellent video. I finally unpacked mine last night and wished I had watched yours first. A couple tips:
To measure for square set the bevel at 30d and 6 cut equal length pieces (you know are exactly the same width). If you put them together as a hexagon, the first 5 pieces will line up nicely. The truth is in the 6th piece. If IT goes into place and the edges touch 100% across, you're golden knowing it was 30d on the nose. If you've got a gap on the "outside" of the hexagon tells you the angle is under 30d. If the gap is on the "inside" of the hexagon the angle is over 30d. This magnification of the error beats a visual inspection which can easily be off by a tiny, tiny amount you can't see. Or you press the square against the blade and flex the blade. Or your square isn't 90.00000 degrees.
Also their instructions on setting the bevel to +/- 0.1d are really confusing. I would love another video with your appreciated level of detail demonstrated exactly how to adjust the bevel to fractional degrees.
Also did you demonstrate the fence extending? That blew me away when I stumbled on that playing with my miter.
Congrats on a great purchase and thanks for the kind comment. You seem very knowledgeable! I did do a hexagon test and it did need a minor negative adjustment and I was able to get it pretty close which I'm happy with. I will add to my todo to make a bevel adjustment video soon...
@@RVWoodworks Thank you. I watch a lot of videos like yours from the maker community to learn a lot of neat tricks. The very nice support person at Incra seemed a little surprise I was fine-tuning their very expensive miter so maybe we're the weird ones but I'm betting we both start with precision so you handle or hide the imperfections later on. I think I had 12x2 sections on the octagon and it was MAYBE 1/64 off at the end. That's the point where messing with it is just as likely to make it worse so time to stop.
1/64 is “good enough” for woodworking.
That skit with mini you was pretty cool...also, I believe this is the 1st time you did live commentary..

@@RVWoodworks setting up flip fence and flip stop calibration and operation, page 5. If you followed the instructions you would have known to remove the fence to adjust the miter bar expansion point underneath the protractor head. I just think the video would have been much better if you had followed the instructions and did a complete setup. Just trying to help, not trying to be mean.

I like the idea that you tried something and found it didn't work and eventually found you need to remove the fence. Nothing wrong with exploring.
Safety Glasses mate? You didn’t wear any. THEN you reached right next to a spinning blade and grabbed that cutoff. Two consecutive recipes for disaster. I CRINGED both times
That's a great callout! The lenses in my glasses are rated as safety glasses but can't argue with spinning blade comment; shame on me and I appreciate you calling that out.
