Part 1. Wire Wrap For Beginners.

- Hello and welcome to my latest tutorial.
This week I thought I'd go through a few basic wirework techniques explaining wire weaves, hooks and eyes, ear wires and many more little things you can do with wire.
I finish off with a wrapped cabochon pendant.
The wires I use are mostly, 0.8mm (20g) base wires and 0.315mm (28g) weaving wire.
When I finished this tutorial I realized it was probably a bit too long to share on here.
So I have separated this into 2 parts.
I'll be uploading "Part 2" very soon.
Please leave any questions or comments below.

As a total beginner wire worker, I really appreciate the slow and steady pace and all of the great information about wire gauge, tools, and the step-by-step instruction. So many tutorials go quickly and it's difficult for me to follow along without stopping and starting the video. Thank you for addressing the total novice! Your videos help me believe this is something I can actually learn!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that 👍💕
I just looked at your Etsy shop. Oh my gosh I was truly impressed. Thank you for your CZcams videos

Clear, concise instructions with great camera work. I can see and understand exactly what you are saying. I feel like I can do this now. I can't wait to finish part 1 (I'm 20 minutes into the video, but it's 3:30 a.m. & my insomnia is over. Yay!) when I get up in a few hours! Then I'll be on to part 2!! Great, great job (You have lovely hands as well.) Thank you for sharing your time and talent.
Oh how lovely, thank you so much ❤️🌷🌷🌷
Hi Kelly I am just starting to learn and am so happy to have found you! Thank you for keeping it simple and not rushing. I’m really enjoying learning now! 😀 Sending a wave from Devon 😁
Oh wow, thanks so much. Enjoy 😊💕
Great job. I really appreciate the slowed down version of the wire weaving. Also, nice money saving technique with making one's own clasps. Well done.
Thank you 👍❤️
Amazing how beautifully the wire looks in the patterns. And not only that but I swear I could fall asleep listening to your sweet soft voice. I've always been envious of soft-spoken people, I'm a boisterous personality and have never been able to be quiet. I just found your channel, and I'm hooked!!

You did a perfect job for beginners like me. I wish there was a way you could show the weave patterns with something bigger like dowels and yarn so I can see the patterns better. (Old woman with poor eyesight here) Keep up the wonderful tutorials and thank you so much.
Aw, thank you. That's a great idea ❤️
Thank you for simply putting things soo well. As beautiful as this art is.... very scary really when one lets themselves get intimidated 💕

Absolutely fantastic! Exactly what everyone needs when first starting out 💖
Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it ❤️
What a wonderful basics tutorial! I am always of the opinion that there are never too many tutorials on learning to do a new craft and for wireweaving especially I think there is always so new trick that is out there to be learned even if you know how to do something. I love to watch almost all wireweaving tutorials and yours are very good; I really love how you take your time and explain each step that you do. I am also a big fan of Yvonne William's tutorials; it was from Yvonne's tutorials I learned how to start to do wireweaving and she, like you, takes you step by step. Please keep the videos coming, I enjoy each and every one of them!
Oh wow, thank you so much ,I really appreciate it ❤️
So happy to have found you! I love your technique and your patterns. thanks so much for these wonderful videos!

Thank you for sharing I needed something just lkie this! I am having a hard time making even simple wraps, Now I understand the types and gauge of wires better. I also just need to be educated on string wirers or stringing lines and wires.
Thanks so much 🌹
Just purchased your learn wire weaving tutorial on etsy. Cant wait to get home from work today so i can keep learning ❤️❤️
Oo great, thank you. Have fun ❤️
Oh!! My!! Gosh!! You are amazing. I just bought the pdf on this and have been madly at it. Sure don't look like yours. I will just keep at it. Using 6in to work with then I attach these to small bottles to make a design. So they just don't sit around. Have to keep at the smaller pieces til I get better. Then will try some of your beauties. My fingers are a little sore not bad but need to toughen them up. Thank you so much
Have fun ❤ thanks so much

Hi Mrs.Kelly Thank You so Much for this Tutorial.. I Need this Tutorial, I am A Newbie at Wire Wrapping.. H.E.L.P lol I appreciate you
Oh thanks so much 😊😊😊 enjoy 💕
I am a beginner, many thanks
You are very welcome 💕
Thanks for a great video. I just wondered... when you've done a length of weaves on two base wires, how would you fix this around a stone, as there are no other wires to hold the stone in place at the front or back?
There is a complete pendant at the end of part 2, also I have many other tutorials for beginners on here. It's up you with fixing a weave to a piece, make a few practice pieces first to get your head around it then try one of the other tutorials with the same weave 👍
Hi Kelly you have shouch a nice soothing voice 😊 Like listenen to you
My weaves have always gaps ,wires always bend.
Watching you explain may help.
Will try allyou say and send a Finish piece😊
Oh great, I'm glad I could help 😀💕
thank you 🙏🙏
Oh you're very welcome, thank you 💕
Just starting out and your teaching is amazing - thank you. I have just bought some bobbins and wonder if you just wrap the wire round by hand?
Yes, hold a (very) little tail end against the open bobbin to keep the end inside, then wrap around and around. I usually wrap about 300 ish onto it. The more you wrap the heavier it is and can be a bit of a pain 😅 I bought bobbins so I could keep the weaving wire a bit longer and I've not worked without them since. I'd be lost without them.
Have fun 💕😊
Thank you so much Kelly . I love the way you clearly & calmly explain these weaves. Im such a newbie but absolutely loving this art form. Hope you don’t mind me asking…is there a trick to holding multiple wires? Once i have 3 base wires i really struggle. Is it simply practice, practice, practice or is there a trick to it?
Thanks again, your pieces are seriously beautiful
Thank you so much. It just takes a lot of practice, start with two, keep at that for a while then try three. Take it slow, watch each wrap take shape.
Hope this helps ❤️
Están fantasticwos
Thank you ❤️
When I first started weaving with wire, the things you are explaining now was like someone speaking Chinese to me. I didn't understand the 1.0 mm and the 0.03 was 28 gauge. the 18 gauge the 20 gauge it was so foreign to me. I didn't think I was going to get it. I almost gave up and quit. I'm glad I didn't thank you for your tutorials.
Aw how lovely, thank you 🌹
i can never hold my wires properly, they always end up overlapping or twisting around making it impossible to even connect them with a weave
Try starting with just two wires and have a practice with that. Once you have the hang of two, then try three wires. Take it slow, it can be frustrating to start with (and is still frustrating sometimes for me) but just take it slow and watch each wrap take shape.
Hope this helps ❤️
Hello Kelly do you have a list of materials and stones etc that you would recommend to purchase to start doing this?
Yes, if you look at my other videos you’ll see that I generally use 20g (0.8mm) base wires and 28g (0.315mm) weaving wire. I’m in the uk so I buy wire from metalclays4u (eBay) or scientific wire co, (Etsy) You can buy stones off eBay or Etsy too. I also buy stones off instagram.
Hope that helps ❤️
Hi kelly could you please tell me what wire is best for oxidising please ? Thank you , your work is stunning. Happy new year x
Any bare wire, uncoated copper or uncoated silver should be fine 👍
Happy new year xx
Kelly Jones Jewellery Thank you ! X
Great video! My issue is that my wraps are not consistent so the piece looks wonky. Any tips?
kat kennedy you just have to keep practicing, lots and lots of practice and take it slow, one wrap at a time 💕 hope this helps 🌹
Quick question, what kind of weave was used on the mini gemstone bracelet (from about a weekago, it has the two layers of beads). Thanks.
I'm not sure, I can't picture a bracelet? I'll have a think...
Hi Kelly I would love to learn how to make these. They are all amazing your designs. Where would I get the wire from please. I'm in England too . Thank you x
Oh great and thank you. I buy wire from metalclays4u on eBay and scientific wires, also on eBay. Soft bare copper (uncoated) 👍 have fun 😊❤️
Thank you 💕🇩🇰
You’re very welcome 🌸
Hi there, I have been looking for a UK based wire weaver for so long... in your video you say you get your wires from metal clay 4 you - are there any other places you recommend? I only ask as some of the wire sizes you've mentioned aren't sold by them :( x
Hii, yes. Scientific wires uk, metalclays4u and cooksongold, I also buy my square and half round from America, Rio Grande 👍 hope this helps 💕😊
where do you get the silver fill wire.
I'm in the UK, I used to get my silver filled from scientific wires, I don't know if they still do it 🤔
Kelly
Where do u find the big rolls of wire ?
I buy in bulk from rio grande and metal clays4u
Ms jones I really appreatice your help.. I don't have a problem with weaving I have a with putting a project together as a piece of art.. Im new to this big time and im really hungry for doing this.. I would like to wear my own piece around my neck. and not purchase someone else.. please help!
Once you have got the basic techniques down, make a few pieces using other tutorials, follow a few of the designs I have made to see how I piece them together. Then, when you are ready, have a go at your own design. I think if you try and jump straight in without starting at the beginning you maybe put off. Take it slow, start with other designs first. There are loads of free tutorials on CZcams ❤️ have fun
Thank you for being so helpful Kelly. I have a basic question about copper. Copper sends skin green, so my puzzlement comes with the question, are you able to prepare copper in such away that prevents this, or is this a daft question.:) I do appreciate your beginner videos.
Thank you so much. Over a few days copper gets a bit of a build up on it. This makes your skin green. If you clean the copper with a silver polishing cloth every two or three days you should be fine. But give it a try, see how you get on. I always clean mine with a silver polishing cloth before I wear it.
Hope this helps, thanks again
Kel 😊
@@KellyJonesJewellery Thank you I will give that a try. I love the colour of copper. Bless your kind heart :)
My thin wire comes unraveled? Why is this? How do I prevent it? Thanks!
The end wraps need to be tighter. Try and get a more consistent wrap, maybe a little tighter if it's coming undone. Take it slow and watch the wraps taking shape, it will get easier over time with practice 👍
I got this quite wrong - should be 3 wraps, 2 wraps, 2 wraps, 2 wraps, 3 wraps but i did 3 wraps each time 🤦🏻. Its also not perfect but i feel a sense of accomplishment just getting this to happen. Thanks for your encouragement, Ill definitely keep practicing
I was hoping to add a pic but cant work out how , sorry
The more practice the better and you've figured it out, so great! Go for it. I'm on Facebook and Instagram if you would like to share a picture ❤️
❤😊
💕🤗
This would be lovely to add a jewel in the center and then reverse the wrap going down.
Great, give it a try. Thank you ❤️
I've watched so many tutorials but everyone just wire weaves really fast but they don't ever talk about how to get clean tight weaves, without bending your base wire. Or kinking the weave wire, I dont know how you pull the weave wire like you do, everytime I do it, it won't sit cleanly, has a gap, or gets a kink could you please explain this to me.
Yes, I went through it in a lot more detail. Watch this video I made 👍 have fun 💕
czcams.com/video/4MoJR0d0sno/video.html
Great thank you!
@@KellyJonesJewellery I ended up watching that other video, and it has helped a lot, thank you!
Hi kelly my wires are not keeping straight and move around any tips please ? Thank you ! X
It is tricky, unfortunately you have to keep persisting. Make sure your using soft wire, as some wires are hard to manage due to the hardness. Keep adjusting the wires, keep putting them where you want them 🌹 x
@@KellyJonesJewellery thank you so much for quick reply x appreciate it
You're very welcome 👍❤️
Kelly Jones Jewellery Hi kelly well I think I figured out what’s been the problem ! I was pulling the wires way too tight ! Plus I have watched your video about10 times to see how you handle the wire and push with your nails and bending wire upwards towards to top or bottom it has made a massive difference! Thank you for the close up of this video x 😀🌹
Oh fantastic, I'm glad you've figured it out! Thanks for letting me know 👍 ❤️
Girl, how do you have such great nails doing this? My nails are much shorter than yours and they often break or scratch from the wire.
Thank you, I am careful with my nails, I'd be lost without them, I have broke a few lately 😅
Is there a good place to get dead soft wire in the UK? I have been ordering mine from the US, couldn't find anywhere here! Thanks.
I buy mine from metalclays4u on eBay, wires.co.uk and Cooksongold.com, dead soft over here is just called soft.
Hope that helps ❤️
@@KellyJonesJewellery Ah, brilliant- thanks!
@ Lindsay Cook ... maybe there’s help for me yet
kat kennedy you can do this !! Keep at it and it will get easier ❤️
