Part 1. Wire Wrap For Beginners.

  • Hello and welcome to my latest tutorial.
    This week I thought I'd go through a few basic wirework techniques explaining wire weaves, hooks and eyes, ear wires and many more little things you can do with wire.
    I finish off with a wrapped cabochon pendant.
    The wires I use are mostly, 0.8mm (20g) base wires and 0.315mm (28g) weaving wire.
    When I finished this tutorial I realized it was probably a bit too long to share on here.
    So I have separated this into 2 parts.
    I'll be uploading "Part 2" very soon.
    Please leave any questions or comments below.

    Thanks for watching and happy weaving :)

    I no longer put links to tools on here.
    The tools I use are:
    • Tronex needle nose pliers
    • Tronex short round nose pliers
    • Tronex razor flush cutters
    • Beadsmith flat nose nylon jaw pliers
    • Occasionally I use tronex bent nose pliers
    • Occasionally I use heavy duty wire cutters
    • Occasionally I use xuron needle nose pliers
    • Bobeeze bobbins (medium size with no extra weights)
  • Jak na to + styl

    As a total beginner wire worker, I really appreciate the slow and steady pace and all of the great information about wire gauge, tools, and the step-by-step instruction. So many tutorials go quickly and it's difficult for me to follow along without stopping and starting the video. Thank you for addressing the total novice! Your videos help me believe this is something I can actually learn!

    What a wonderful basics tutorial! I am always of the opinion that there are never too many tutorials on learning to do a new craft and for wireweaving especially I think there is always so new trick that is out there to be learned even if you know how to do something. I love to watch almost all wireweaving tutorials and yours are very good; I really love how you take your time and explain each step that you do. I am also a big fan of Yvonne William's tutorials; it was from Yvonne's tutorials I learned how to start to do wireweaving and she, like you, takes you step by step. Please keep the videos coming, I enjoy each and every one of them!

    Just starting out and your teaching is amazing - thank you. I have just bought some bobbins and wonder if you just wrap the wire round by hand?

    • @KellyJonesJewellery
      @KellyJonesJewellery  Před rokem +2

      Yes, hold a (very) little tail end against the open bobbin to keep the end inside, then wrap around and around. I usually wrap about 300 ish onto it. The more you wrap the heavier it is and can be a bit of a pain 😅 I bought bobbins so I could keep the weaving wire a bit longer and I've not worked without them since. I'd be lost without them.
      Have fun 💕😊

I didn't understand the 1.0 mm and the 0.03 was 28 gauge. the 18 gauge the 20 gauge it was so foreign to me. I didn't think I was going to get it. I almost gave up and quit. I'm glad I didn't thank you for your tutorials.

    • @KellyJonesJewellery
      @KellyJonesJewellery  Před 2 lety +1

      Try starting with just two wires and have a practice with that. Once you have the hang of two, then try three wires. Take it slow, it can be frustrating to start with (and is still frustrating sometimes for me) but just take it slow and watch each wrap take shape.

    Thank you for being so helpful Kelly. I have a basic question about copper. Copper sends skin green, so my puzzlement comes with the question, are you able to prepare copper in such away that prevents this, or is this a daft question.:) I do appreciate your beginner videos.

    • @KellyJonesJewellery
      @KellyJonesJewellery  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you so much. Over a few days copper gets a bit of a build up on it. This makes your skin green. If you clean the copper with a silver polishing cloth every two or three days you should be fine. But give it a try, see how you get on. I always clean mine with a silver polishing cloth before I wear it.

      It is tricky, unfortunately you have to keep persisting. Make sure your using soft wire, as some wires are hard to manage due to the hardness. Keep adjusting the wires, keep putting them where you want them 🌹 x

      Kelly Jones Jewellery Hi kelly well I think I figured out what’s been the problem ! I was pulling the wires way too tight ! Plus I have watched your video about10 times to see how you handle the wire and push with your nails and bending wire upwards towards to top or bottom it has made a massive difference! Thank you for the close up of this video x 😀🌹

    Girl, how do you have such great nails doing this? My nails are much shorter than yours and they often break or scratch from the wire.

      Thank you, I am careful with my nails, I'd be lost without them, I have broke a few lately 😅

    Is there a good place to get dead soft wire in the UK? I have been ordering mine from the US, couldn't find anywhere here! Thanks.

      I buy mine from metalclays4u on eBay, wires.co.uk and Cooksongold.com, dead soft over here is just called soft.
      Hope that helps ❤️
