- Job loss when you have a chronic illness is anxiety-inducing.
How will you afford your medicine? Your diabetes tech? Will you be able to visit the doctor? Keep your insurance? How will you be able to make it all work?
For me, losing a contract (my most stable one) unexpectedly and without notice was a horrible experience - and one that I had no choice in.
I didn't see it coming and was never given any notice.
For the past six weeks or so, it's been challenging to stay afloat - I won't lie.
Skipping meals, skipping insulin doses, the mad rush to get my scripts filled so I can get an extension on my life. It's all wild. But it's a reality for people living with diabetes. And it always will be until it's less expensive to manage this disease.

Thank you! It was hard to speak up, but I feel like I would tell anyone else to advocate for themselves and point out wrongdoing. If nothing else, the next person should know what they’re getting into.
And I’ve got this little corner of the internet where I help educate. This is a learning and teaching moment for me.
Sorry you experienced this unfortunate reality of corporate life. I’ve been a consultant for over a decade and I’m very jaded now lol. I trust no one and everything needs to be in writing and always always CYA because while you’re being a team player they’re watching their bottom line. As an independent contractor, I would draft your own contracts and use them as the starting point. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors!!!
In this case, they wouldn't let me use my own contract unfortunately (big, corporation, etc). But, I have absolutely learned my lesson. And that is to focus on my platforms, my stuff, growing my community, my content and being the best at it.
I may not have as many major resources as those companies, but I'm smart and capable. I know I've got this, and I think this is leading me to something much better.

Thank you, Gloria. I feel like like bad things happen and it opens the door to something better a lot of the time.
In the past couple of months since this, I've survived. Barely, but I've done it. I just see it being nowhere but up from here.
Unfortunately, being an empathetic person leaves you open to being taken advantage of by unscrupulous people. It's important to compartmentalize "things" in future endeavors.
It's horrible that you've had to go through this, but you've experienced a valuable lesson that I know you will make use of for a lifetime.
Capitalism doesn't care about benevolence, ethics, or professionalism.

A lesson I will NEVER forget. I can’t tell you how many times I fought for myself in these situations, and how many times I was shut down. It should’ve been obvious to me then.
But I’m confident bigger and better is on the way for me.
