    If you are reading this and you have psoriasis please beware of any mat that has latex. I bought a jade today and had a huge flare up on my hands and feet from the latex in the mat. I don't have an allergy to latex, but I learned tonight that often people who have psoriasis can have a flare up when using a latex mat.

    I bought a Manduka Prolite mat, and was kinda disappointed at first. I felt it was way to slippery, especially as my hands got a little sweaty. My hands were sliding in downward facing dog, and my feet in warriors. But after breaking it in, it is just a JOY to practice on. Not slippery at all, easy to clean, and great overall stability. I love rolling it out, as it lays flat so easily.
    I broke it in by scrubbing with salt, cleaning it with a mat cleaner, and practicing yoga in the sun. I now clean it by spraying a mat cleaner on it, wiping it clean with a cloth, and rinsing it in the shower to remove any residue from the spray.

    So far I've bought the Manduka and for Hot Yoga, it's no good. I've ordered the Yoloha native cork mat though so I'm thinking I'll use the cork mat for hot and manduka for everything else. My friend told me I'm crazy for buying these mats, but really Yoga to me is relatively inexpensive. All you need is a good mat, a great studio to attend and that's it.

    I just got my Liforme mat a couple of days ago. The grip it provides is a game changer for me (I didn’t own a proper yoga mat before, worked out with a usual sport mat) so I don’t really have a point of reference to compare. The alignment system is a big helper as well, it’s very soft and pleasant to touch. Some cons: within minutes of opening it, all the dust that was in the room seemed to stick to the mat and the smell is kind of like a rotten fish and it didn’t go away (yet). Generally I am very satisfied with it

    • @mommymarine1756
      @mommymarine1756 Před 4 lety

      Did the smell go away yet? How did you deal with the dust? Is it because of the nonslip surface meaning it’ll always be a problem?

    • @emg508
      @emg508 Před 4 lety

      Mommy Marine yes it did after a week or so! I think dust problem will never go away simply because of the material the mat is made of. I must say that I have 2 long haired cats at home so I have a bit more dust than others 😂 I clean it after 5-6 uses with a damp microfiber cloth with a bit of soap on it, according to lioforme instructions and I have feeling it helps a lot against it collecting dust

    • @emilymmacisaac
      @emilymmacisaac Před 4 lety

      @@Talk2MeNice no, definitely not, it's a rubber material, so for sweaty classes it can get wet.
      Just FYI - my sister in law and I both bought them, and we're kind of disappointed now, all the rubber on the parts that are on the outside of the roll have rubbed smooth, and now it's very slippery in those spots.
      I don't know if a Matt bag would help or make it worse, because the sticky part seems to have rubbed right off.

    The Jade Harmony is the best mat I've practiced on in the last ten years. The open cell surface helps absorb sweat during hot yoga or ashtanga, making it consistently grippy. It provides just enough support but still let's me feel the floor underneath - which is vital for balance poses. It is a pleasure to practice on. (Your boyfriend is right.)

    I have a Kurma Grip Lite, which they say it's the same material as the Manduka Pro (PVC). Being an Ashtanga practitioner, I find it really difficult that they don't provide the same grip as the Rubber mat I had. The advantage is that transitions are easier to slide between, but also it feels more risky to do a 'bunny hop' on a mat that is slippy.
    I think that next time I'll get a rubber mat again, this time with more quality than the previous one.

    Gaiam sol-dry grip is still my favourite yoga mat. Better than lululemon reversible. I find lululemon super slippery and overrated, the material is similar to Gaiam sol-dry grip, but Gaiam soak up the sweat instantly which is super helpful, with lululemon, you have to wipe down the mat every 5 minutes, which is really distracting and annoying because it doesn't soak up the sweat or any liquid at all. Great details. Thank you. I started this search by looking for some extra mats to have available for purchase vs. "borrow" mats in beginner class. Do have some discounts with Manduka and Hugger Mugger to use, but was hoping to get some at $30 price point for quick student grabs. And yes, thumbs up on wearing a dress that you can actually do yoga in : )

      Well I ended up going economical cause beginner's don't always want to "invest" in the long term practice just yet. I ended up getting several Hugger Mugger Nature Collection Ultra mats through the pro discounted program so they ended up costing me $26 each. They're a little more padded at 1/4' and don't contain heavy metals or phthalates so I feel good about that. I found a "fun" mat for me - I have to admit I'm influenced by color/design/scent - and got a totally new to me mat called the All In One mat by Plyopic. Super excited to add to my personal collection.

      @youaligned  Před 5 lety

      Hello h z, thank you for commenting and great question! If you're looking for a mat with a little extra cushioning but still has great support, we recommend the B-Mat. If you're set on the alignment system though, we also recommend you check out the Guru Grid mat, which is similar to Liforme. Namaste!

      Hey Erik, Great question! While no travel mats specifically are included in this video, the Jade and Wai Lana are the most lightweight/easily packed. Aside from these, we've tried - and love - the Jade and Manduka travel mats and they are both super lightweight, packable/foldable and perfect for practicing on the road. Thanks for watching =)

    • @youaligned
      @youaligned  Před 6 lety +2

      Hey Sladana,
      Thanks for watching and great questions! Yes, you can also use these mats (as with most yoga mats) for Pilates. As for cleaning the mat, it can vary a bit from mat to mat but as a general rule, using a filtered water spray with tea tree + lemon essential oils is a great way to safely clean your mat (just read the mat's label first to make sure it doesn't have any warnings or specific directions etc). We haven't had the opportunity to check out Plyopic Mats yet so we aren't able to offer our opinion on that. Let us know if you have any other questions! Thank you!

    I've had a Wai Lana for years. It's blue with print, so they're just yellow now? Not a color I'd be happy with. I was wondering about a mat brand, "Kulae." (found an old magazine clipping that mentioned it). I'm a petite girl, but I'm wanting a wider mat. I just don't like touching the floor.

    • @youaligned
      @youaligned  Před 5 lety

      Hello Toria, thank you for commenting! Wai Lana has several yoga mat options but yes - in the style we reviewed, it is currently only offered in yellow. We've reviewed Kulae mats in the past (which you can view here: czcams.com/video/ALhqTCowmyg/video.html) but based on what you're looking for, we'd recommend the B-Mat, Manduka, or Pogamat from this video. Is the Liforme mat a good option for someone who is short? I am 5'2. Also, i am not sure if its just because my current mat is really cheap but i do not like how my mat tends to get slippery (could be because of feet sweat) and how i can see the dent of my hands/feet from the poses. Does this happen with the mats mentioned above?

    • @youaligned
      @youaligned  Před 4 lety

      Hey Connie, the Liforme is a standard length mat so you'll have no problem with that and it also has great grip so it sounds like you found a mat that meets your requirements! =)
