- 700 plus mile system with incredible range. A huge terminal in Baltimore, handling, grain, coal, ore, and general merchandise. To the west they became a bridge line called the alphabet route because of the several railroads who combined to compete with much larger roads in the Chicago/New York market. Great mountain scenery, and fan friendly personnel always made a day on the WM a pleasure. It is missed.
To folks who dislike the playback speed, just go to your options and select 0.5 or 0.75 speed. Great video, Bill! Thanks. I am from Adams County, PA and often cross the old WM Dutch Line.
I consider it an honor and a privelege to have served as a volunteer on the Western Maryland Scenic Railraod from 1994 -1995, They are a class act.

Fantastic pictures, but please let us see each photo for a longer period of time. My mouse finger became tired of hitting Pause.
Also, the titles could be smaller - they block out too much of each image.
Thanks very much for sharing, however. You just have to love all those eclectic engine lash-ups. All that counted was horsepower, and the =WM= utilized whatever was available at that moment to get the tonnage across the line. The Cumberland consist at 2:41 with the RS3 on the point and two large EMD hood units trailing is simply priceless.
Slow down the picture flipping. It is hard to understand what you are seeing when they go by so fast. Would have been more enjoyable if I had time to see what was in the picture before it was gone.
Change your playback speed in YT settings.
Great pictures (though I had to use my pause button a lot to slow it down). Bring back the streamlined cab units!
Chessie Steam Special is rusting in the parking lot at B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore. If they were going to do something for America's 250, they would have started work years ago. Nice montage!

Definitely need to slow the shots down. Great pictures, but by the time I was able to read the captions and the animations were done the next picture was on screen.

Thank you. All of the videos I have posted on You Tube were shot when I was an active railfan through the 60s, 70s and 80s. I started scanning the negatives I never made prints of last year, and just started putting the videos together in January. Check out the shots from the other roads I saw, on my You Tube page. I shot over 100,000 images of trains, and have about 40 photo albums of 8x10 prints. The images you see in the videos, I'm seeing for the first time since I processed the film.

There's film of their last three operating F units running an Excursion that was a farewell Excursion for them whether or not they were preserved afterwards I have no clue but I hope they were
There were 2 F units. 7163 and 7173.
I saw these 2 working a coal drag north bound through DC to Baltimore where the 2 F's were to run the NRHS fan trip.
We chased them north for a couple photo shots.
This was around august 29, 1979. 1 suffered a traction motor failure on the fan trip. Meaning I may have seen/photoed the last time multiple WM F units in freight action.
One is preserved at the B&O Museum along with a WM BL-2
@@WMAJ6 I saw both of these when they were in service back in the 1970s.
I tried to get a ride in the old 82 at hagerstown back in 1977.
@@jeffreymcfadden9403 Yeah - I used to go there and take photos at the yard office. I remember seeing the BL-2s working the hump with their calves.

It's been up for several years and you are the first one to mention that. My constructive answer to you is, you are the only one it has bothered.
Way too freaking fast. I went back, hit the settings button and played it at .25 speed. Mute the sound too, the piano sounds stupid at .25 speed. Otherwise, nice collection of photos.
My suggestion is to never watch it again. Lets see what stupid you have in your collection.
