- Which do you prefer? Old cars or new cars? Not as easy as you think as both have compromises. Can you live without modern car technology?
We first take a look at the Ferrari Testarossa and then I compare that and my Lancia integrale with my Lotus Emira.

I thought you were going to get out in the Ferrari then! Nice.
@@dannymurphy4634 Was a customer car. I would have loved to have driven that TR.
Lotus Emira, all day long! The Lancia was fun but it’s time has come and gone. If I could buy 50 cars, money no object, the Lancia would be 1 of them but not for the reasons you describe… I’d drive it till it falls apart just because it’s fun, nothing else😉
Meant to say. I have that nostalgia built-in to me and have a 75-25 bias towards older great sports cars.
I couldn't JUST have those. I do need some nice modern wheels for a weekend warrior and track days.
I'd love an older classic car for days out as well as the family SUV but they are worrying. I'd fear parts shortage, breaking down, where I'd keep it and how easy it might be to steal. Perhaps an older Porsche might be decent as they are proven to be long-term bulletproof.
I certainly understand the fear of mechanical and electrical failure on older cars but, serviced once a year, you should be fine. Porsche is often a safe bet as people tend to look after them properly.

Love the pics of the new and old Porsche and Golf. Amazing how much bugger cars have got. Like the Mini. Was proper small originally and not they are bigger even than your Lancia!
The mini is a bit of a joke. Great car but it should now be called the maxi! 😄
I like it when you go to a show and see the special older cars. They get much more attention than the common new Ferraris and Lambos which everybody seems to get without further thought just because they have the money. Super special new cars are an exception as they are very rare.
Yeah, that is kinda the point of the video. Plus, at the normal end of the market you can get a lot of car for the price of a new, boring sedan or coupe.
Ade
I do like all the old American cars! Charger, Corvettes and Mustangs have proper style as you say, sound superb and are relatively easy to work on. 😎
Yeah, the V8 blocks are great and the car visibly rumbles. My missus loves American cars and not just the sports ones so she would be delighted if/when I get a C1 Corvette.
Ade
I loved your Lancia video. That instrument display is divine. I could stare at it for ages. Put me in the anti-digital-screen group! 😀😀
Yeah. It just has the special feeling. As soon as somebody sits in the car, and I let anybody sit in it at shows, they remark on the dials, the seats and the steering wheel. Just feels special.

I had a black testarossa on my wall as a kid! Very rare now. Unbelievable back. I 'd love to follow one around town. 😁
Cool! Yeah, that car's arse is amazing, so imposing and unmistakeable.

As we move more to electric there will be even more demand for these fabulous older cars. Not just the expensive Italian cars but also the Fiesta XR2s, Clio Williams, Esprit, Corvette, etc.
Agreed. I think they will all rise in value a bit and certainly not go down. Normal, boring petrol cars will still be around and the nice ones will be snapped up.
Ade
Older cars have become a bit like fine art. Rare and treasured and the fan base will only grow. Some of your current stable will really shoot up.
I think so but, alas, I have to sell them as part of my plan to get my 25 Dream cars!
Ade
There are some fabulous new cars. The expense of them is very off putting. When you think of the older cars that you buy for the price of a mid-range BMW it certainly makes you think.
Exactly! The older cars can be so spacious inside. Old jags, Triumph 2000s, Cortinas, Capris... the list goes on. Now representing great value.
Ade
Tough choice. I'll kop out and say one of each please. 😄
Ferrari 308 and a Yaris GR will do me fine.
Nice combo.
One could get those two for about £100k.
Ade
Agree on the simplicity of that Testarossa interior. They are far to complex these days. Too much electrical interference.
Yeah, an array of electronic complexity as soon as one enters the car does not help the overall experience.

goooood one. are you planning on more of these type of vids?
Yeah. might do a proper new vs old feature on two cars and keep it more focused.
Ade
Car costs are going up and up. People will keep hold of their older cars and those holding on to classic sports cars might be laughing. Petrol aint going anywhere.
Absolutely agree!!!
Ade
People are really starting to like old cars. As we are forced to buy new boring cars that all look the same, our heads get turned by the specialness of the classics. I think it will be more common to have one EV car and one 'classic' of come description.
That's a good shout. Buying a new EV will be unavoidable in the 2030s IF they are still around - who knows.
Then, the obvious second car is a MUCH cheaper petrol car and like a classic at that point.
Ade
Apart from the bird crap, that Gallardo is sweet. They are at rock bottom prices so I assume the running costs are horrific. 😒
That car is likely around the £65k mark. Terrific value if one can find one with a recent clutch and has passed a stringent specialist test. Then one can rest easy and enjoy the car.
Ade
I suspect that the new AMG A45 or RS3 might not actually be able to keep with your integrale dude. 👍
You might actually be right, if I can get the gear changes done well. My old RS3 sounded excellent and was fast but its roadholding and handling was not up to, say, my old Golf R and certainly well behind the integrale. Might be close.
Ade
my props on the vid though could do more with the video quality itself. or maybe its my internet?
It is 4K but overall I could do with more cameras to cover more angles.
Waiting for your next vid now - any plans?
Got a few supercars to do. I have a Rant special coming up and more news on my Porsche 924 Carrera GT.
Ade
daamn braaaah - haha, this is not too bad. not joking here
Cheers bruv. 😀
Emissions are a big thing. Has cut power and noise in modern cars.
Absolutely. The EVO2 integrale had a Cat added and new rules has strangled many a decent car.
Ade
NEW, always!
Nah.... why buy a £40K BMW 330 when you could buy an older car for a 1.4 of the cost with more room and more fun and less depreciation.
@@RevMonkey , it all depends on what you describe as “old”… a 10 year old car isn’t old, a car from the 50’s-80’s is and especially the cars from the 70’s and 80’s for me are crap! Cheap interior, sometimes awful driving dynamics etc., the only thing I like in older cars is the manual transmission.
YEEEEEEEESSSSSS!!! T
Certainly the older Ferraris slaughter the newer cars. Speed is not everything. Not even close. 🙄
Agree with that. There is a bigger picture and how the car feels to drive in all situations/.
Ade
Old cars smell 😁
Haha. 🤣😄 I have to admit my integrale stinks of petrol and the missus is really not happy when the smell creeps into the house. I have to let the car air out after a run and keep all doors closed. 😆
