- Hi everyone, finally got round to building my MFT Style Guide Rail Hinge, so please let me know your thoughts.

For those without a welder, I used JB Weld to join the parts together - works a treat! Hope that helps.

I've only used JB Weld on broken castings. Does anyone know whether it will securely bond the hinge to the underside of the guide rail? If it is abraded, maybe?
@@markkoons7488 I JB welded two rail joining bars onto the hinge mechanism instead. Then you can slot the rail on and still change the rail if need be. Hope that helps!

Using the angled slot to locate the track as square seems a climate solution. With a high panel or very shallow panel the track will either not find the location slot or be angled up and not flush with a shallow panel. Why not just line the back end of track with the MDF holes and place a dog at the very closest hole to the operator. That way when the track is lowered you simply get things flush and push slightly towards the dog and then the track is square everytime and sits a perfect flush on cut piece.

I have modified my board since adding a replacement zero clearance insert .

Cheers to you and @conkat for this idea.I was initially going to have a sliding rail at the back to raise and drop the track. This is so much better, plus i have plenty of ballrace hinges. Great video

Finally! 🤣🤣🤣. Great job, I’d already found the original conkcat video ages ago, but thanks for going into more detail 👍. My bench is similarly spaced from the wall as yours & I’m still using the UJK spring clips with my Festool rail at present, but may give this a go. Thanks.
I have the rail dogs and they are quality but I'm limited to what widths I can cut on my bench so couldn't always use them. The rail square wins it for me evertime.

Was looking at how to do this about 2 weeks ago. Looked again today and glad I did.
You can get hinges that fit extruded aluminium/t tracks, so maybe if you use that you can have the rail position be adjustable
As for the bit at the front for the track to align with, Google 't track slider'. I think you can mount this vertically and carefully cut out the top to create a small section that can slot into the bottom of the rail. You could even use adhesive tape measure and a threaded knob to lock the setting in
The rail lock definitely needs work! After a couple weeks of use it tends to get in the way when I'm using the bench for other things. I've not really looked into extrusion accessories so thanks for the info 😊👍

HI, ...so U know, i am leaving this 1st comment b4 watching the video. I searched your channel, this morning, for this video, because U mentioned doing it, when U reviewed the BenchDogs FenceDogs & Fence.
Today, i decided to check & see if you made it, & if you hadn't i was going to look on your homepage for an email address & encourage you; which gets me to my comment:
👍 1st, i think, it is great that you gave a shout out & linked Conkcat's video. Everyone who sees his videos wishes he would make a how to video.
These tables are not new, even the idea of having at least one row of horizontal holes, 90 degrees, to at least one row of vertical holes, to make a cutting station, is not new. and 30 years ago we used pegboard to help us with Pythagoras' math to make large sections of 90 degree holes evenly spaced.... BUT, what I THINK IS GREAT, about CZcams making old things new again, is content creators jump on a trend. And although it can be funny when suddenly every maker "needs" a Murphy Bed, all of the content is great for the viewer.
Particularly, for someone, like myself (i have many, many medical limitations), whom does more planning of builds, than building these days. I really love having lots and lots of content and various ideas with twists and changes to watch and enjoy.
Just watching you hold up the three hinges in your BenchDogs video, got me thinking of the possibilities and the pitfalls of the idea. It made me hungry for content(stuck in bed, not a hinge in sight.😀) . Content, that i already knew just doesn't exist...
... Every channel, does every idea, EXCEPT, for the "MFT hinge". For over a decade, with thousands and thousands of videos on dog hole tables and track saws, and hundreds of new products leading to even more videos, i have ONLY been able to find (2)TWO, videos on the "DIY Festool (or Kreg) cutting station hinge Hack" Those 2 were Conkcat's and somewhere out there is a kid with a tiny channel & a MFT hinge build video that had only 12 views(I will find it and post it here when i do). Lots of people say they are going to do it, like you did in your other video, but they never do or at least never post them. There are probably some stuck in the CZcams algorithm, like the kids, but they don't show up in my daily feed OR when searched for.
For some reason it just drives me crazy that THIS build, on a topic this popular, has fallen through the cracks. In forums and CZcams comments, so many people ask about how to make this hinge. I really can't understand how Conkat, doesn't have more views, & the kid actually shows how to make one and has NO views? ... i asked conkcat to please re-make and video it, i even ask people in the comments, who say they plan to try, to please film and post..😀 I know there is a big demand and no-one supplying the videos.
...So i'll tell you, what i told the kid, i will share your video wherever and whenever i can. & i encourage you to promote & remake or rename this video, if you don't get hundreds of thousands of views before summer.
And lastly, i see you have a small channel and so, i wanted to thank you(i haven't watched it yet, it may suck, i mean your FenceDog review isn't winning any awards, just kidding😁.)... but, regardless... you told your viewers you were going to do something, and you found the time to do it and put in the extra work to film it and share it with us. 👏 I think that is awesome!!! This is conkcat ( Greg) I have to apologise I did never get around to making a how to video of this. But now someone has explained it a little clearer so I am happy about that.
My thought train runs away with me and I tend to make things on the fly, if they don’t work then hey ho they go in the bin.
But the good thing is genuine CZcamsrs always seem to give the originator credit for the idea.
What I don’t like is people who copy and pass it off as their own idea. ( not in this case though)
It’s said that there is nothing new in this world, just variations on a theme. This hinge type is used on swinging door sets I just adapted the idea for this application and is way cheaper, easier to use, and works flat against the wall.
Yes I’m surprised it didn’t get more views, but I’m a small fish I. A big pond and it needs a large subscriber base to get more views with the CZcams algorithms

@@conkcat Greg, yES, the YT algorithm is all knowing, a complex and wonderous entity. Daily I worship here(figuratively and literally) trying & failing at understanding it.
With my health issues, i am mostly homebound, and if I am awake, I am here; gaining knowledge, being entertained and enduring the clickbate.
We've all seen videos where everyone laughingly comments that they don't know how or why they've been led to a fish or lawn mowing video, BUT, recently i was drawn to one such oddity and noticed it had WELL over a million views, with pages of comments from people unsure how they got there. This gave me pause, since to certain channels, those ha ha views & comments can mean not so ha ha $$$$.
But then, there is your channel, and it is clear you were recommended because of my interest in single board computers and woodworking. I found the tack hinge video, while going through your video library and thought it bizarre that i hadn't found it in the previous years, when I often searched for DIYs and hacks like this?
Anyhow, like you were saying... was always told, there is no such thing as an original thought. BUT, it can be irksome when someone is NOT as honorable as KW has been, and they go through the song and dance of organically coming up w/ someone else's idea, YOU know what i mean... "... and just then the wind blew, and my door held fast, for it has safety hinges... ah! but wait, that gives me an idea...." and BS like that!
I guess, all i can do is laugh when i see that. And try to acknowledge it, when someone does give credit; and of course. share their video as i have Kings Workshops and yours Conkat.

I would love to know if you have an update or made changes to the front angle bracket. I am a little confused as to how the bracket locks down the rail and how you disengage it to raise the rail back up. Any further insight would be great!
I am so curious as to why I dont see many guys in the US making these and using their track saws in this way.
As an American I'm also curious and even shocked that it's always people in the UK doing this stuff with track saws. It's such a nice solution for repeatable cuts.
Why not use the tslot channel to bolt to hinge as opposed to rivets?

Thanks for this video. I know where I will cock this up and I don't think you covered it..how do I make sure I attach the hinge to the top in a square manner? Sorry for newby question. Is it enough to just offer the hinge up the the worktop and mark the holes? Will that be square enough? Also, where can I get the front locating pin thingymagic? I squared mine up with the bench dogs rail at the back which I'd already squared up previously with the dog holes on the bench. I used my framing square as well just to make sure the locking thing was bang in the right place. I think I bought them extrusion angle brackets on ebay but can't quite remember! 🤔
how do you set the hingesin the table square to your fence?
I use the dog holes on the bench but use a set square qnd the 3-4-5 method just to make sure. Sorry for the late response.
