You mentioned tea tree oil, so I thought I would share my unexpected amazing hair growth experience. My hair was so bad, it got so thin, to the point of bald patches and a receding hair line and I've had what I thought was dandruff for as long as I can remember. After some research a few years ago, I learned it's actually seborrheic dermatitis (not dandruff), which is why dandruff shampoos weren't working. I also started having so much hair fall, I had to pile it up in the shower so it didn't clog the drain, it was always falling out through the day, getting all over my clothes, furniture, floor ect. One day, a lady from India, with amazing hair (I know a lot of Indian women have great hair but hers was incredible) she recommended trying tea tree oil mixed with sweet almond oil, coconut oil, and amla powder. She told me to gently rub the mixture onto my scalp and leave it for a minimum of 20 minutes, gently comb the scalp to loosen the build up, then wash my hair as usual. The results were instant! I used a hair dye brush to part the hair and the painted it on my scalp with the brush, I have also used a comb to part it and dabbed it on my scalp but the hair dye brush was much quicker, precise and less messy I'm sure its also much gentler on the hair rather than just using my fingers and rubbing back and forth which can cause breakage. At first, I did it once a week for about a month, then started doing it every 2 weeks, then once a month, now I only do it every 2-3 month (when I notice the SD forming). She also recommended a simple hair mask every 2-3 weeks, it's just sweet almond oil, amla powder and shea butter, whipped together with an electric whisk to make it smooth and easy to apply, I leave it on for 20-30 min and gently massage my scalp to help the blood circulation, then wash my like usual.
I also add some amla powder to smoothies (its pretty healthy and adds a nice bitter/tart flavour. I don't know if there's a cure for seborrheic dermatitis but this is by far the best prevention method I've found , my bald spots grew back my hair started growing (its more than half way down my back now) it looks so much healthier, a lot less breakage, split ends and when I wash it, hardly any comes out. I brush it when it's dry and a normal amount comes out on the brush and I only have the odd hair fall out here and there.
I'm sorry for such a long story but with the results I got, after years of trying different things, tons of expensive hair products, online diy recipes, even a prescription shampoo but nothing worked (well the prescription "worked" but i had to use it every couple days, my hair got super dry and frizzy and the smell was terrible).
I get the tea tree oil from shoppers drugmart, in the pharmacy area. In the same isle that they sell witch hazel (this way I know it's real and good quality). I think most big pharmacies have it but I ask the pharmasist if I can't find it because a lot of places sell overpriced essential oils in the beauty section, and I'd rather get the stuff that's in the medical section.
If this story helps even 1 person, I will be happy and won't feel so bad for writing a book instead of a comment 😅.
I would love to know what Dr. Dray thinks about it and why it works so well. I know she gets so many comments and this is not a recent video. Anyway I hope this helps someone out there 🙂.

Great video. Even for those of us with textured wavy or loosely curled hair, as great as the Miellé product can be, just a couple of drops are sufficient. What a difference it makes though when used in moderation, softens and protects against frizz. For those of us with curl types 2c to 3a haïr, it’s a holy grail.

You are looking especially beautiful these days: skin, hair and minimal makeup. Personally, I love Mielle shampoo and have been using your suggestion for long hair care: shampoo the roots and condition the lengths with minimal heat treatments (have fine hair) and it's very effective so far. So very effusive thank you!!!! Thanks for the tip about the scalp treatment by them. Haven't tried that because of fine hair issues. Just knew that it would be too heavy for me but the other products are on my list to try. Just use one pump of the Mielle Rosemary Mint Shampoo, rub in hands and then equally distribute (or try to the best of ability) seems to be enough for a fine-haired long head of hair. You are so great with your hair, skin aond product usage advice. My dermatologist was so happy with my skin on my last yearly skin-check that it made my whole mood!

I'm a postmenopausal woman with hereditary androgenic alopecia, with archetypal male pattern hair loss. I've been using a pure rosemary oil on my scalp at night for a year and a half. I apply it to the thining areas. It does not irritate my scalp, so I don't use a carrier oil. While I won't say it's given me thick hair growth, the wispy growth it has restored is enough that with an artful (short) cut that allows me to brush the hair forward, it's sufficient to give the illusion that there is still hair there. I have avoided other products because of the "dread shed," in which you lose hair before it grows back -- if it even does, which isn't universal. I spent $250 on a laser band and THEN found out that it too causes "dread shed." So I sent it back. Minoxidil is metabolized through the liver, and to tax the liver for hair growth doesn't seem worth the risk.

That is the brand of rosemary oil I tried also. I think, however, I was using a bit too much. I tried it for about 2 months and noticed a little improvement on one side of my head but not much improvement on the other. I probably didn't give it sufficient time. I plan on making rosemary water with fresh rosemary since I have a plant. Maybe I will be able to be more consistent with it since it won't give me a greasy feeling scalp.
Btw, I also have curly hair. But it is now gray, and due to its texture change, is always in dire need of moisture.
May I ask how you use the coconut oil for detangling? That may help my hair as well. Thanks!

Maybe it’s just the dryness due to age that makes it work more for me. @@imawakemymindisalive13 yes, it has caffeine, rosemary, and biotin. I apply it to everything. It is a misconception that a conditioner is only for the ends, if it is lightweight and doesn't weigh the hair down whats the problem? Those expensive ingredients dont do much to the lengths, they work on the scalp. We have generational problem, ppl stopped using their brains and just copy others without questioning. Most ppl have no clue what a conditioner does or what it contains

Thank you for the information on the Mielle product, and yes, the tiniest amount was the best for me in growing back hair at balding patches that started years ago from Lupus. Even hair stylists would comment on it to me as they cut my hair. I found the Mielle a few months ago and I put one drop on the balding area and used my fingertips to gently massage it around and up through the hair. It’s rich so you need very very little. Those areas after 10 years of embarrassing balding, came back. I wash it out about 2 or 3 days later and yes I use that round brush you use and I use a simple shampoo and conditioner. My hair is long, about 2 feet long. It might not be for everyone, but I got good results with careful and minimal application.

I am so glad that it worked for you!
I’ve had Lupus for 23 years. I started noticing hair thinning last June after Covid in January. In July I found bald spots. They haven’t gotten worse but not better. My rheumatologist ran a lot of blood test and they were normal except for slightly high SED rate. I’m going to a dermatologist next month. I hope I find something that works for me because both of my children are getting married in few months. I just want to look my best for both weddings.

      Susan,
Did you only use the Miele product once a week - a couple of days before shampooing? Or more often? I wash my hair once a week, so I am wondering if I should follow your routine. Hope to hear from you😊.

It’s important to know the target market for haircare brands. All hair is not the same. I have textured hair (4c). Products like this are designed for my hair. Not to say other people can’t use it they just need to be aware that it was not designed for their hair.

I think this video was made with the perspective of using this daily or smth given the feedback of it making hair look greasy etc / repelling water in the shower. I think most people know this is a pre-shampoo treatment, as most scalp hair oiling routines are. Why would people care if it looks greasy / have to put it up in a ponytail before shampooing?
As for having trouble taking it out in the shower - I have similar hair type to dr dray and getting hair oil in general out can be challenging. I have found that emulsifying shampoo (I.e. rubbing shampoo in damp hands to create a foam) before applying it to the scalp is much more effective that emulsifying on your head directly. Minimum 2 washes with a good balancing / clarifying shampoo (sometimes 3 but rare).

So I picked up that particular rosemary oil a few weeks ago at Target for around 10 bucks or something and so far I've have had no issues while using it. I love the minty smell. I'll have to see if it'll help with my thinning hair. We shall see.... I will continue using it because it's helped a lot with how dry my scalp was. Smells wonderful.

Apparently Mielle changed the formula of the oil which pissed off lots of faithful customers. So I switched to Yari. This oil is also heavy on the hair so I will continue to use it as a pre wash. I do wash with the Mielle shampoo and conditioner though. 👍🏻

Also have to remember that this product is really geared towards ethnic hair, or more dry and brittle hair, Which definitely reflects why fine hair is weighed down. This is best used pre-wash for finer hair.

    • @rosalina2773
      @rosalina2773 Před rokem +14

It can be used as a leave in for finer hair too but you want to just put 1-2 drops onto your fingertips and rub together first. Then you can massage it into your scalp and get a little moisture without weighing your hair down. I’ve used it for a few years and this is how I put it in after I wash my hair. I used to get really dry scalp and this fixed it. I wouldn’t do this if you don’t have dry scalp though.
