Did Mark just make up this video to show off how insanely good a swimmer he is ?
Cookie monster - insanely good swimmer, runner and cyclist, wish I was half as fast as he is in all disciplines
Haha it’s been a while since the racing days. I need all the confidence boost I can get 😜
We should banish the young from sport :)
@@MegaMagicbeans We were all young at one time.
Thank you! I have a time trial on Wednesday and I’ve never been good with pacing. It’s my first time doing laps since pools have closed!
I just got mine yesterday! I’m excited to see how I can improve on the swim.
I have a similar set that's a bit more intense - 23 x 100 @ 1:40. 1 fast, 1 easy, 2 fast, 1 easy, 3 fast, 1 easy, 4 fast, 1 easy, 3 fast, 1 easy, 2 fast, 1 easy, 1 fast, 1 easy. interval should give 30-35 seconds rest. I usually average 1:05 on these. The hardest part is holding stroke on the 2nd half of the set particularly on the 2nd round of 3 fast...
That AR goggles are so cool!
I remember racing an 800m freestyle against a local upcoming 'talent' once.
I was determined to not lose to this upstart.
And much to everyones suprise I could actually keep up with him...
...for about 375 meters. After that it was the longes 800m of my life :p
Pacing's important kids, hahaha
Oh, and 4.25 is really damn quick. Makes me really curious about Mark's 50m and 100m times
last masters meet I went out way too fast in the 800... 1:02ish swam 9:00. Next day went out in 1:04.9 & my 800 split in the 1500 was 0.2 faster, still a tad rich but lesson learned. Looking to beat my 8:51 from 2018. Not too shabby for 42 🏊♂️
gonna predict Mark is probably ~ 27 for 50 and 59 for 100 - right now.
@@realalbertan
Hats off to you sir. Best I could manage when I was 17 was 10 minutes or something.
8.51 would probably make you Dutch masters 40+ champion or someting :p
27 and 59 seems a bit slow to me though..
I mean, even I can do 25 high (okay, low 26) and 57ish these days still...
Or would that just be the difference between sprinters and distance swimmers then?
Just ordered some today
That's great. Let us know how you're liking the goggles.
i got them also and super happy with the form goggles hope that technology will go on. we need this gadgets in swimming
I really like the idea of these but these are a no go for open water. That is where I really think they’d be useful. Tried them out and they worked great in the pool but not at all in OWS and it was really hard to see the display in outdoor pool swimming since it’s much brighter.
Thanks! That’s exactly the insight I need! Guess not much help for OWS/triathlons eh :p
So this is how he swam 47 min at the Norseman triathlon
not entirely... he swam as a teenager...
Wonder if that was a course record. Anyone know?
Do these work open water? Also how accurate is it? Does it work in different size pools?
Yeah I would also like to know if they work in open water - I guess not, but would be cool if they did
Can someone please point me towards a video that explains how the goggles measure all those metrics?
Do the goggles have their own sensors or are they relying on data from your wristwatch?
In the pool and in open water without a compatible smartwatch, the goggles use a complex algorithm using machine learning and a built in gyroscope and accelerometer to track head movement. If you are using the goggles connected to a compatible smartwatch in open water, the swim is tracked and recorded by the watch and simply uses the goggles as a display.
We don’t have a video explaining how the goggles work at the moment but it’s a great idea - we’ll suggest it to our team.
"Well, to hopefully you from making these mistakes, and happening to you during a triathlon..." ..., we made them for you.
I love my tech and have been toying with the idea of getting a pair of these goggles. but as far as pacing goes I've found using a Finis tempo trainer really helps and it costs a fraction of the price. also used in races for course PBs. Why should I go for Form over Finis?
First coment you are the bestest!!!
Mark is an incredible swimmer, but simple math, not so much. 3 X !:06 + 1:05 is 4:23 not 4:25. Maybe the Form googles were on to tight! :-)
Argh! Somewhat annoyingly the goggles aren't compatible with Garmin 735XT watches! Not really interested in indoor swimming as I got these for the outdoor elements of the goggles. Oh well. never mind.
Wow, I struggle with holding 2.00.
Can these be used on open water training ??? Sea or Lake ?? or is it only for Swimming Pool ?? Thank you :)
Just ordered goggles but hit with £60 import tax on top of €225 price. Best wait till available on UK
Do the goggles not bother your eyesight after a while?
Brought to you by... Form goggles!
You made a comment about not being able to use these in a race, why not? You can use watches and bike computers, is it to do with the no distractions rule as the display is always in your eye?
Does it pull the data off your watch? Not sure if it's for me as I can just check my watch at the end of each length very easily and no time lost as part of my open turn
1:11 felt horrific 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If i was swimming even a 5minute 400m I'd be stoked
How do those goggles work for people who are very nearsighted? I have to wear prescription goggles just to see.
If you are able to see the pool without vision correction, you should be able to see the display - it's like the metrics float in front of your eyes and you don't need to focus on the display to read it!
@@FORMswim i was not able to see a Google Glasses i tried once.
4th comment, 2nd best woohoooo!
🤔Strasbourg🤚
marks a flipping fish lol but $200 for goggles
Dragon Ball Z anyone?
how does this show the goggles help you pace yourself? You clearly went harder the second time around and by 7 seconds no less. It was a 4:23 not 4:25. This just shows that you warmed up with the first 400 effort. If you felt like you were slowing down in the first 400 then you should have sped up like you did in the second effort. What exactly were you trying to show?
bighammer trust me, that is a max effort for me these days. If anything, I didn’t have anywhere near enough recovery after the first one either. Merely aiming to show that a better paced effort can in fact end up with the better overall time. I’m sorry if that didn’t come across that clearly in the video though
1:05 + 1:06 + 1:06 + 1:06 = 4:23, not 4:25
Taking it to consideration the points of seconds as he says it was 4:25
Could be rounding error. 65.4+66.4+66.4+66.4=264.6. Admittedly, it's unlikely he hit .4 on every split.
You need to add the milliseconds (which were not shown).
Rex Ezard haha I did say with the points of a second. It’s ok, my maths aren’t that bad
@@markthrelfall3577 ah. My bad
