That’s kinda funny cause this suit was my least favorite. I didn’t hate it, but I felt there was to much gold. I still like the suit, but others are better

When I was a kid, I wanted the Iron Man 3 Arc Strike Iron Man (Mark 42). It was a 10 inch Iron Man toy that had electronics and a high amount of detail; it's made of durable, shiny red plastic with sparkly gold and muted silver paint. In terms of the electronics, the toy has a button on his hip that activates light and sound effects; the eyes, outline of the mask, arc reactor, some of the indentations on the chest armor, and repulsors glow blue. The voice clips for Tony don't sound like Robert Downey Jr. but the J.A.R.V.I.S. voice sounds very close to Paul Bettany; the sound effects are okay and some of them are quite catchy.
The toy also has a motion sensor where you tilt the figure horizontally (which will also make the head tilt up for flight poses) and it activates a blast off noise, and when you make the toy stand straight up again, it makes a landing sound. There are no sounds when you move it around in the air, but it still somewhat gives you the feeling that Iron Man is flying.
Articulation is rather limited though (The head only moves up and down, the arms have 180° range up and down, and the hands swivel), but it kind of makes sense for the design that they're going for and the gimmicks make up for it. All electronic Iron Man toys have limited articulation, but this one actually makes up for that with it's cool electronics, and they gave us the articulation that makes sense for the design and idea for this toy, instead of giving us movements that don't do anything (or a toy with few gimmicks that get old kind of fast and don't explain the lack of articulation). This figure doesn't have any weird accessories or features unrelated to the MCU Iron Man's lore; they gave us features that make sense for Iron Man. The detailing is also better than what we get now in terms of electronic Iron Man figures.

Impressive for an older piece. My favorite part is definitely all those battle damaged pieces, battle damage really is what Hot Toys does best

The Mark 42 was and still is my most favorite suit Stark has ever used, even all the way to Endgame I loved all the suits, but they just don’t hit the same as 42 did

Thanks for the retro review of Iron Man Mark 42. This is still one of my favorite Iron Man figures. The colors are unique and it really stands out in the collection. I'm still looking for a sixth scale sofa/couch that resembles the one in the garage scene of the movie.

I didn't know this 1/6th scale figure was still available. Gotta get it. Including the battle damaged pieces is the win for me. I was irritable when I bought my end game Iron Man figure and Hot Toys released a battle damaged version a little later.

I bought this off of eBay maybe a year ago or so and yeah it's such a baller suit, I always thought of this as like the "Let's go Clubbing/Party Suit", even though Stark left that lifestyle behind him when he built it.

Just scored this guy while I was in Japan for 13k yen because the wrists' red color were faded dramatically.
Since the battle damaged parts were basically untouched, I swapped it out for those and the chest and it looks still very good. The difference in paint is there but like at the end of the day, can't beat $90 for a legit diecast 1/6 hot toys!! an awesome find honestly

Great review Justin! The mark 42 is my favorite suit design for iron man partly cause its my favorite journey of his, also that battle damage is pretty neat but if it would have been like the poster it would have been even better

I won’t lie this suit is one of my favorite mcu iron man suits I love that there’s more gold then red and I may be in the minority but I loved iron man 3

Does your left butterfly joint goes up and down and the right one doesn’t move up and down as the left one? Mine moves up and down the exact same way as yours on left butterfly joint extended but the right one doesn’t move at all up and down (extended). Want to make sure is yours is same right one, and not just me

Iron Man 3 and Mark 42 are on my top 10 and 5 list of favourites. Such a fun movie to watch if you don't think much about it. The suit was so unique and I love the Prodical Son returns scene with the suit falling to bits.

Justin I'm not sure if you look at comments on old videos but the battle damaged mark 42 helmet looks really good on the battle damaged mark 85. The colour mismatch is not even noticeable due to the gold shoulder pads and the red

I more of a fan of the silver/red or gold/mostly red figures, that resemble the comics.
The battle-damaged pieces look great, the ability to swap is a really nice touch, I wish they had a few for the legs to really set this figure off.
If you want to go ham, you could do the Hulk Buster Mark 44 from HT ;)

Well well well how cool is this? It’s far from perfect but I’m really impressed with this figure. I really love the swap out battle damaged pieces as to having to buy a whole new figure just to get a battle damaged effect. If they did some swap out battle damaged pieces for the legs this would’ve really been 👌🏼. I really hope in the future they go back this route rather then having to buy two versions of the same figure. I had no intention of getting different varieties of iron man but after seeing this I’m really tempted now. Great review thanks Justin……can we have avengers 1 hulk 🙏🏼

Just when I sold him I get reminded of him this way :-D it really was an awesome piece, I think it's my favorite IM design. However my piece, when I bough it in 2015, I think, had a big issue. His right hand would come off way too easily and any kind of posing was impossible. I should have returned it under warranty claim, cause it was really bad. However, dumbass me chose to stick with it and eventually after trying to improve it broke his shoulder completely. It would still hold in place but more loosely even than before - the silver wheel in his shoulder that holds the shoulder broke off and just barely stayed there.. So I sold him for half of what I paid for him and bough Mk. 85 instead. Don't get me wrong, I love the 85, but I miss the mk 42 so damn much :-( .

something i wish hot toys did for this particular suit is nail the suit color accurately cus the gold isnt actually gold its more of a champagne gold instead of just pure yellow gold

I know this is old but I think they got the color right
I just bought it. Not sure when it was done (it s exactly the same content) however the leg color match the body yellow which I like better than the version you show where you get a starker gold.

While this is a very impressive release at it's time, the suit has a lot of inaccuracies like the gold (which is not accurate, it's suppose to be a much lighter gold), the mask has oversized eyes without the black in the eyes, and the line that connect the eyes is not present. The battle damage is also not accurate to the movie as well, and the battery cover on the back is very obvious and very ugly. However the quarter scale one fixed all of the issues above, so I hope Hot Toys can do a 2.0 version of the sixth scale one in the future!
