“Why are you having fun as a 40 year old?” What a dull kid.
I dont think he was really on that line of thought. But rather on the usual conception that when you grow older you need to just work or start being productive or doing whatever other things and ignore games etc. Which, depending on what kind of household the kid grew up in, wouldnt be too weird to think that's the case
Nah, I think he's just used to having this as a "gotcha" with people his age that share this opinion. Not realising "games are a waste of time when you're older" is a dumbass thing to say while sinking in hundreds of hours into gaming anyway. Its hypocritical, if not a narrow perspective. You don't get any younger, so when do you wake up and say you're done doing things you find fun? This doesn't just apply to games, this applies to any hobbies and interest, so this really isn't the checkmate these kids think it is.
I mean tbh gaming just takes up so much time as a hobby, and a lot of people do it because they have nothing else going on with their life. Not like hobbies, I mean goals. A lot of people don’t seem to even know/remember the person they want to be because they’ve drowned all their free time gaming.
@@gamermosley7803 Kinda funny that this line of thought you mentioned applies more to college and/or starting your career, it is hard af depending on what you choose and you won't have time for anything, but when you are 40?... From what I've seen this is when you start having time to spare again lol (stable career, kids leaving to live by themselves etc. Maybe more in the 50s for some people I guess.)
I'm gonna take a guess and say that this kid never realized his parents don't have time because of him (which is fine and perfectly normal, to an extent).
@382 You could potentially take it to the logically extreme. His parents might not have any free time because instead of doing his chores or finding ways to help around the house beyond the chores they ask of him, maybe finding a part time job after school to kick towards bills? He's upstairs playing video games while his parents have to pay for his shelter, clothes, food, recreation, AND pick up his slack around the house. By his own logic, he's the one who's wasting not just his own time, but the time of his parents. The 40 year old is only wasting his own time.
Of course, that's assuming A: You think video games are a waste of time, and B: You assume this kid is a lazy layabout because he's playing video games.
I'm 59, college grad with a well paying job. I'll stop gaming when I can no longer see the monitor.

I'm 37. I used to pull this card as a teenager. While there's a lot I miss about my teen years that stance was definitely just immaturity. Just part of growing up to let people live and let live who aren't hurting anyone.
He didn't agree, he backed off when he saw he was outnumbered.
It’s just terrible parenting, like that news anchor calling out that 14 year old kid who got the world record in Tetris in 2024 where she told the boy to go outside and touch grass(unironically) and get a real job.
The kid’s literally going to earn her whole career Net worth in the next 3 years through streaming but in spite of that, what does she think the kids gotta do? Enjoy the verbal beat down and undermining comments of his achievements and listen to her; kids are ignorant but they’re not stupid, it’s a two-way street, if you don’t respect them why would they respect you?
I’d say millennials raising kids are much better, but they’re raising IPad kids…
Also, they just enlightened that little kid on the facts of life.
I am these days the 30 year old who kinda remembers what it is like when I meet 15 years olds in games. I just kinda forget it before it happens again thinking everyone online is 26

One of my biggest dreams is to play some video and board games with my grandkids before I die.
Tech moving so fast that people in their 20s are now considered grandpa gamers
Today's 35 year olds will be the future's grandpa gamers.

@Kurosai Indeed it be pointless

@Pyramanager Still ain't gonna stop me you know.
My aunt is an 80 year old woman and while I wouldn't call her a "gamer" because she only plays literally ONE gaming franchise, the fact is she has played those games for 40 years now.
It is The Legend of Zelda franchise. I have no idea why this woman who was 40 at the time, decided to buy a Nintendo and start playing Legend of Zelda, but she did, and she liked it. She never liked any other games and was always reluctant to play other games to even try them, but she LOVED Zelda.
She has played every single Zelda game that has released. She was 80 years old when she beat Tears of the Kingdom.
She don't give a fuck what some high school kid thinks about her. She had a long career as a doctor. Owns her own home and about 200 acres of land, has her primary car and a backup car in case something goes wrong with the first one, has the best credit score that is possible for a human being to achieve, has zero debts, a family, just won at life in every way imaginable.
And she is in there at 80 years old playing Tears of the Kingdom because that shit is fun.
My friend who passed away unexpectedly in 2017 had also played & beat every Zelda game & was the biggest fan I ever met. We're talking: Zelda 2 which is notoriously hard & a sidescroller, managed to find & beat the CD-I one too (rare/expensive) & at college found some peeps to link up with the GBA -> Gamecube one (Four Swords?) many many years after anyone had those or GBA was in demand. Funnily enough the ONLY one he had not beaten, and I believe because he wanted to make it special was the very first one on NES. He never got to do it. Went in for what I believed was routine knee surgery & 2 weeks later was dead from complications at 31. Never in my life have I experienced something so unexpected. Went out of his way to help me during some truly rough patches when no one else bothered, or thought to. One of my best friends from childhood.
Your grandma & him are kindred souls. Please tell her if she doesn't mind to beat another playthrough of the 1st one and I'll consider it having been crossed off his list. Ty for sharing your story & anyone reading for listening to mine. I'm not a serious person online & this veered wildly off-topic but please cherish the positive people in your lives, spend time with them & tell them how much you love/appreciate them because you never know when you might not be able to anymore.
If Zelda is the only game you play, you are a gamer, it's the only game that matters.
That’s a good one to get stuck on and play that long, good choice on her

Yeas
He was aggressive but he wasn't being mean. It sounded like he genuinely wanted this kid to come away with a new perspective
and that's awesome
There wasn't any tension though. The man skillfully made the kid question his own opinion, rather than attack it. Most people's opinions are not arrived at rationally but rather inherited from someone else. Most people are capable of reasoning, but choose to outsource it to others to save time and energy. This is a flaw in the human condition and is done instinctually, so there's no reason to get upset about it. It's easier to let people convince themselves that they are wrong by asking questions than it is by telling them the facts yourself.

@@elibeeblebrox1084 Good comment
“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

I used play with a 70 year old who had grandchildren in ARMA 3. We were tank crewmen. He preferred to drive over gun because of his eyesight. I was one of the best shots with a tank cannon in the unit. Had no problems accommodating him.
He kept us alive and kept my guns facing the targets. I just blasted them. Nether of us were 'Pro-gamer ELITE' players but we did our best. We never went down and terrorized the enemy.
And at the end of every mission, he'd remind us all to tell our loved ones that we loved them. He was the kindly old man with a big heart reminding us all at the end of the day to be human.
He taught us that you're never too old to play games and reminded us to be good to each other in a toxic world.

I'm 34 and I honestly don't think I'll ever stop as long as I enjoy it. Video gaming is just another form of entertainment that became mainstream in the past few decades. The same as going to movies, concerts, watching sports, etc.
Like with many other forms of entertainment, I won't let it ruin my life or career, but I won't simply say no to something that brings me joy, just because some people think that it's not good for adults to play video games lol. I'm happy with my life.
32 and very much like-minded! I'd argue it's even better than these forms of entertainment, cause it's an activity, more like playing bowling, solving a puzzle or painting. Now, the reason I'm pointing this out is cause active entertainment stimulates the brain and (sometimes) body in a much more healthier way than passive entertainment does in the long run. I'm not an expert though, just my opinion.
Dude Im almost 50 and I still game.. heavily. We grew up on this stuff.. its really cool seeing the progression made from the days of my Atari 2600 to now.
Same. I'm a first gen gamer. I'll still be playing when I'm 80.
We were born at the perfect time for video games since video games were increasing in complexity along with our mental capabilities...Pac-Man at age 5 and Doom at 15. Everything was new as we got older but now most games are combinations of things we have already played. The two exceptions that made me feel like the early days of gaming was when I got VR and playing Outer Wilds was a pretty unique experience.
I'm 35 and I do feel that older gamers had more skill and inteligence than me and certainly mobile gamers. I still play a lot but most often I cruz at 50% capacity or 80 if it's racing game.
Same. Started with ATARI 2600 and "Laser Blast", "River Raid", ...
I love this clip because the kid obviously thinks he's got this epic "got'em" and just gets shut down by everyone super hard.

I just turned 41 this years around 2/13. I haven't stopped gaming but i have been forced to be extremely selective of what games to play. Factors are time to work, personal projects and goals, backlog of games i purchased while i was overworking but didn't have time to play at the moment and the big major problem "arthritis in hands". Been a hardcore gamer most of my life but due to arthritis, i can't play hardcore actions games for too long before i kill my hands for days (and i need them for work and projects). Games can be relaxing and for entertainment but the trap that makes it an addition if the feeling of "Completion" it gives. Maybe can't achieve goals in life but doing it in a game feels good, the problem is that time and hardwork don't always translate into personal gains to pay for cost of living.
Great example of how life can be hard, thank you for sharing.

Its like asking "when are you gonna stop reading...or watching movies" the answer is, never, as long as im capable of enjoying it, i will.
Right but people don't typically sink dozens of hours per week into watching movies or reading books. If they did then it'd obviously be excessive, but plenty of videogames are made so the player spends hours and hours and hours playing it. It's a time sink.
@pfer7133 Maybe you don't, there are many people who read an effton and watch just as much. Everything is a timesink, especially hobbies, who are you to tell others how to spend their downtime ? They are adults or close to it, they can do whatever the hell they want..and suffer any possible consequences. Not your place to deny them.
The thing is reading or watching movies is way more productive bcuz youll be learning new things whereas if you sink 1,000s of hours into an online multiplayer game playing with randoms bcuz you have no friends just bcuz its “recreation” doesnt mean you should be doing it. This was actually very relieving for me to watch, because I still have anxiety in regards to enjoying the same things in my 40s... I always thought I'd magically grow out of gaming after hitting 18, but no, still gaming at 22.
Even if you stop enjoying some things as much, you can always find other things that you enjoy. Just turned 29 today and I've been gaming since I was 5, and while I don't play the same games now that I did when I was younger, I can always find different things to enjoy. Even the games that I play now that I've played for a very long time, I've found new ways to enjoy that I likely wouldn't have appreciated when I was younger (and if I played now how I did back then, I'd probably find it stale). But there's always a new way.

Gaming is the only thing I can se myself continuing well into my later years, through retirement, and probably up until the day that I pass away.
I am 34 now, I have been playing video games since before the Playstation existed. Just because you are getting older, doesn't mean you need to stop doing the things you find enjoyable in life.
That kid just got a life lesson in 1 min that most people take a lifetime to learn.
Same age as you, dude. Gamers for life
At some point when you reach a certain age you just dont give a fuck about what others think and you just do what you like to do . Its the best mindset ever!
I knew early on that I would never stop gaming, even if everyone around me did. Turns out hardly no one stopped we're all still playing as adults albeit with different schedules than the past. As the generations who grew up on games are getting older that stigmas getting erased.
This is depressing. Imagine how many hours you threw down the drain for videogames.
@@RashFever26 nice try troll
Yo bro this was beautiful
I'll stop when I'm six feet under
The kid never actually thought or cared about any of this, he was just talking smack.
Wrong it's both.
That's the problem of talking smack without thinking about it, it's easily exploitable and weak
That's alright, talking smack is part of being young, they're still learning. Not that we're wisemen ourselves, I feel so incomplete myself, but at least we can pass on what little knowledge we did acquire so far to those even more noobish than us
speak for yourself i was always wise even as a teenager growing up.@@ckiimyirhnski1056
Dude just wanted to be in a clip for clout.
That kid pretty much sums up Gen Z, they are totally oblivious that they will be in our shoes in the future and thinks everything before their time is outdated facts including wisdom
Gen Z brains is rotten by Toktok
I would've felt insulted by this, but then I remember that I'm on the far tip of Gen z that's that's the oldest, so I still played outside and shit instead of tiktok scrolling my brain to dust.
Ah yes, as someone who is almost 25, I *definetly* have this mindset. Man how dare you guys play new games!? That's illegal and I shall gatekeep you from it!!
Yeah i noticed gen Z likes to age shame a lot
pretty much every teen ever in any generation, i find myself reflecting on old advice from my dad i didnt take seriously at the time
Nice comeback to that kid, if I was in that chat I would be muted and leave the session.
I fully expect to die in my gaming chair.
I joined a group of guys who played Halo 5 almost 10 years ago. They range from 30s to 70s. And the oldest one 71, is someone I would call a dear friend. Those boys still play. MCC on Thursdays and Infinite on Tuesdays. With random games sprinkled throughout the week. They are some of the funniest goofy guys I play with. And every time I join it feels like I'm just around the campfire listening to dumb jokes and goofy stories
Anybody of any age, race, sex or whatever have you can enjoy video games and connect with people from around the world.
No need to ever stop hanging out with your friends
“Why do you still enjoy your life?”
“Why should I not?”
This was cool as hell to see and very respectful
I'm 41 and still play games. I'll probably still be gaming when I'm 51.
I'm 27, I think I'll never REALLY stop playing games. But, there will come a point when I have a steady job I like, a house, a family and such that I'll have to be very selective with my time invested into them and some games I might never get to play as a result. BUT, if I'm completely honest, I don't have any noble or grand goals in life. I don't really need a family I'm happy alone, I don't need a big house, a nice car, or a lot of money. All I need is to be able to enjoy the things I love and video games are one of the many things I love.
If a car guy can spend his whole life working on car's as a hobby, I can spend my whole life playing game's as a hobby. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. And if one day I end up in a small house alone, retired and playing video games for the rest of my days, tbh, that'll be a dream come true for me.
It's a very stubborn lie that people still naively believe anyway. My buddy and brother in law literally hate their life. They still refuse to believe a big house, a lot of money, an expensive car, a wife and children aren't a quarantee for happiness. Because you can't control how people perceive you. Because acknowlegement and love can't be bought. It used to conventional wisdom when I was still in school but even the boomers who taught me that seemed to have forgotten it. Like, half of all the boomers in my private environment are divorced and hate their job. By brother and law and especially my buddy are basically alcoholics right now. And even if my buddy is at home, he would rather spend time playing games like I do then spend the time with his nagging wife and his son throwing another tantrum. My sister and my dad are divorced too and especially my dad is pretty much a choleric. His only hobby is watching politics so that he can shout and complain. That's why I don't get why he and my sister still try to convince me that my life will be so much better when I follow their path. It won't just magically get better if you continue to do the same that made you unhappy up to this point.
They are still waiting for the point when it finally gets better. But why would something they hated up to this point suddenly make their lives better? Whenever I confront my dad with this question he gets a blank stare on his face beause he has no asnwer to it. If he was honest then he would admit that he simply believed in a lie told by society to make him a corporate slave. If being productive was a promise to the perfect life then wouldn't everyone do it? I ask my sister too if I get the woman of my dreams like Jessica Alba or Qri if I work my ass off and earn a lot of money? And she tells me straight that I am not entitled to any women and that their love can't be bought. Then I ask her if I definitely won't get the woman of my life if I'm not rich and she tells me that it has nothing to do with my money. If that's true then why should I do something I hate when there is no quarantee for it anyway? If they can't even properly say how high the chances are? Guareantee me supreme happiness and the perfect woman and I will immediately stop playing games and be as productive as I can. But nobody can promise me that my life will be happier than it is playing video games. At least in my personal environment, I see nobody who looks happier and more content than me.
Honestly, im really glad that everyone decided to stay mature about the whole thing and calmly talked it over, rather than suddenly yelling at each other and therefore worsening the situation (also good animation, dude)
True. best way to sum it up.
I'm 28 been gaming since I was before I was 4, I ain't ever gon stop
i’m 32. Will probably be on my death bed with a game hooked up in the hospital 😂
im almost 30 and my Nintendo DS collection is growing. Ive been playing fortnite since chapter 1
A lesson in self reflection.
That guy got absolutely demolished in the friendliest and smartest way possible.
That's life experience for you.
I remember watching this stream..
The kid was pretty unhappy because they stole their loot they were grinding for on Sea of Thieves. 🏴☠️
So in effort to make them mad/embarrassed he starting calling them out for being "too old to play video games.."
Age does not define anyone's interests/passions/or hobbies. Everyone should already know this..
"Once a gamer.. always a gamer."
This was Summit1g talking by the way for anyone who doesn't know 🤙
Imagine thinking you shouldn't have fun anymore when you're older because it's "a waste of time". What a stupid thing to say.
Love the edit
Others: What age are you going to stop gaming?
Me: Never
Kids like him don’t want adults to have fun.
Still they're going to become adults and won't notice it, they will think time hasn't passed 😂
Some people generally don't want others to be happy and enjoy their life. They would find something els to try to make you feel bad even if you didn't play games.
@@pandaman1331 Kids like him thinks he is gonna peak but that ain’t gonna happen with that mentality LOL
@@martymcflytimetravelsMentality or not. The problem with young people is that they are naive. Adults no that there is no quarantee in life, especially not for becoming rich. Thinking that you will become successfull and rich just because oyu dedicate your entire time to it and don't play games is absolutely naive. Especially when there are super rich and successfull people who play games like Elon Musk. Gen Z in general only sees black and white. My generation might not be perfect by any means but we generally were open minded. We at least learned to not menddle into private business. Not sure how we deteriorated to the mindset of Gen Z.
@@pandaman1331 I am Gen z and I don’t see any point of playing video games. Other than playing with other friends or for a CZcams video. If something gives me value in return I’ll do it. I have a CZcams channel, tiktok agency and taking coding classes of luau. I just think video games is just a way to slow down life. So both are at fault for not doing something for their lives, but if some kid tells an adult to stop what they are doing it cause they are too old for it? They are a hypocrite, because by highschool people’s expectations is to have a car, a job and straight As.
Gaming is the modern interpretaion of one of humanities oldest and most sacred acts. Story telling.
Well not entirely. Online games dont have to have a story to be played by lots of people. Its no different and actually more difficult on a whole than chess Id say, depending on the game. You need dextrous hands AND the right mind for some games, even advanced strategy, in go and chess you only need the mind.
@@horsthooden4600 well, online games bring ones of the humanities oldest and most sacred acts to re-use the words of our friend, which are in the case of online games, mutual support or competitivity
@@horsthooden4600Online games really are shit. Sorry but it's true. I almost exclusively play jrpgs.
lmao yeah COD and GTA are up there with Homer.
"well how do you know ? you are not old yet." pack yo shit up kid, he wrapped up argument.
Calmly dismantled his entire outlook on life.
There are many things that can change in life, nothing is a certainty except death and maybe being an idiot.
Adults out of college have more money and time to play video games without life getting in the way. If all I did was go to work and sleep, my depression would delete me. Adults need hobbies and recreational activities too.
That's what my grandparents realized too when they finally went into retirement. They just don't know what to do with their free time because they never developed any particular interest and hobbies that didn't involve physical labor. Now they are terrorizing everyone who needs to work the entire week with their suprise visits and constant phone calls because they don't know what else to do. My uncle doesn't even pick up the phone anymore during lunch because he knows it's his mother. It might sound harsh but you just don't have the time to tend to her boredom. It seems to have gotten better lately as she has discoverd Netflix 😂.
Dude your videos feel like some of my fever dreams wtf
One of my favorite Summit clips for sure
"you're 40,why are you still enjoying life?"
And he wonders why he never gets invited to parties and nobody asked him out to the dance,he definitely doesn't sound like a kid I'd hang out with in school and I was a complete social outcast...
in his defense when youre a kid you think its just a kid hobby, i guess. but playing a game is better than sitting watching netflix or other boring sht when youre older, i mean what else are you gonna do at 10pm on a wednesday?
@@johnsmith-fk7fw I doubt kids today think like that, when most gaming personalities are 30+, and statistically the average age of a gamer is over 35, so most of them must have parents who game.
@@Golemoid this kid obv thought that plus smaller kids are playing with other small kids and watching jyxnzi and sht
@@johnsmith-fk7fwWhen I was a kid I used to have that mindset that being silly or having fun was somehow childish. I acted "mature" for my age because I was always afraid of being seen as "immature". As I got older, I realized that wasn't the case. Playing video games, being silly, that doesn't make you immature or weak. I'd rather be old and still be positive and silly rather than bitter at the world
NOOO! YOU ARE 40, YOU CANT JUST HAVE FUN! NOOOOO!
A lot of my friends stopped playing in high school, college, and as soon as they started working post college. The all loved gaming. Not as much as I do of course but they were definitely were really into it at some point and then just stopped. They did see it as a waste of time long term. Even me who still games a lot at my age, I’ve been slowly pulling back due to lack of good novel games. I’ve played a lot and there’s nothing actually inspiring being made anymore
I think they made that guy understand quite nicely. No yelling or insulting, but jusat made him think about it.
just do what you love, age is just a number. I always find it funny when people say shit like ''act your age''...
I will act ''my age'' which is an adult age of 32 when the situations asks for it, other than that I will just be having a blast whenever I can whether it be videogaming or anything else that is silly.
It is not like we are going to make it out alive in this life, so enjoy it long it lasts.. A tomorrow is never a promise.
I go to the gym, work 40+ hours, and still make time for video games whenever I can. That is something I will never let go of.
this hits frfr
I'm 52, and I'll stop playing video games when I stop breathing.
I had this revelation in 2019 with Sekiro.
I was bored of games and almost quit. Turns out when you’re older singleplayer is a lot better than multiplayer… or rather modern multiplayer with “payed progression” also known as battle pass.
Also I’m not saying that Sekiro was my first singleplayer game, far from it. The game was just so good it made me realize is something you feel your own way, it’s not a “numbers game”. I can play games of my childhood and find similar enjoyment as I did as a kid. The Battlefront remasters soon will be proof enough.
The only reason this stigma exists is because videogames are still relatively new. They were originally made for and marketed toward kids and those kids are now in their 60s and 70s, so we are having our very first generation of old people who grew up around videogames. Those people carry their preception of them being a kids' toy into their lives and even into media they produce. This is indicated by the fact that when traditional media reference videogames they still do the whole "pew pew ha ha Pacman sounds" bit because that's all they think videogames still are.
Nobody asks when you're gonna stop playing chess, or golf, or when you'll stop liking football/basketball/soccer etc. Or even watching TV/films. It's just videogames.
yeah like a couple of my millennial male high school teachers all avidly play games (fallout, league of legends, magic the gathering, etc.). They are all in their 30s
Being blind, deaf, and without arms or legs could not stop me from gaming.
I might not be as much of a gamer as I've used to be, but its still a good time picking up an new title or an old favorite every once in a while and giving it a playthrough.
