  • What does music have to do with this car? VTEC? 4WS? Moonroof?Well, check out the definition below as this is the history of the Honda Prelude.
Prelude: an introductory piece of music, most commonly an orchestral opening to an act of an opera, the first movement of a suite, or a piece preceding a fugue.

Would definitely buy a 6th gen prelude if one came out. That said, I love the 5th generation styling as it goes back to the older 80s designs in terms of body lines, tail light aesthetic etc. Luckily in New Zealand, you can pick up a decent condition 5th generation type s prelude with the 220hp h22a for around 3000usd.

Today when you are seen driving one it turns heads I think Honda would be surprised if they used today’s tec to bring it back I almost bet sales wouldn’t be an issue! Love my clean low miles 5th gen ! Totally underrated but getting some serious love & attention now in 2021! (maybe the combination of red color and performance exhaust is complimenting the modern-classic lines) I also love the handling - Some Honda mysterious magic to make a front wheel drive car handle so well. A sixth gen Prelude? I say Bring it on!

  • @spicytuna62
    @spicytuna62 Před 9 měsíci +1

I own a 5th Gen SH. 253,000 miles and still runs fine. Someone along the line swapped in an H22A red top. It's also got a custom intake and exhaust. I'm pretty sure it makes the full 217. I won't dare call it a fast car. It probably would have been 20 years ago. But nowadays, when huge horsepower is really cheap, it's just regular traffic. It does turn heads, because 26 years later, it still looks like nothing else on the road.
I will dare to say this - if you want something that's fast, fun, and you can actually beat on it without being punished, buy a V6 manual Accord. If you want something that makes the same power, revs more, and can even carry a few friends, buy an 8th gen Civic Si sedan. Both of those are objectively better cars. Parts are more available. They're newer and are generally more reliable and have better features. What I love about my Prelude is the raw driving experience. So if that's what you crave, get a Prelude. Otherwise, V6 Accord or 8th gen Civic Si are better picks for the money.

Middle aged guy here, who has been daily driving this Lude since 2002. I have a black 97 SH that I drove hard and didn't really maintain things - yet it's still running fine on almost all factory original parts (except consumables), with no major repairs, and just a lot of smiles in the corners. It's lived outside the whole time, so the clear coat is pretty shot, she does burn some oil, and she could use new shocks, bushing/mounts, but I can't complain given her age. It's insane seeing all the comments about folks always wanting this car or regretting ever selling it....

Great video! The Prelude definitely aged itself out of it's own market, over 3,000 lb girth didn't help while the Civic Si stole the performance show and cost less with a ridiculous aftermarket. Today because of the added weight of side impact protection, SRS/airbags, power everything, and a taller profile to compete with SUV's, the formula isn't working anymore. The used market is gaining popularity for Integra GSR's, older Civic Si's (not beaten on), and even CRX's, but these older cars are missing all the stuff we take for granted today: passenger safety, onboard 'smart' technology, driver assist systems, etc.

I would love it if honda would just put some better seats and just soup up the drive terrain a lil bit...and start with 300hp base car. I love my 3rd Gen SI. I call it my Lude. It's my mini yellow NSX. It's 30yrs old this year. I've owned it for 24yrs and it's fully restored.

I imported a Prelude Type S last year and its been amazing. I'd buy a 6th gen prelude.

Id buy a 6th gen prelude if they brought back mechanical 4ws or much better functioning electronic one than gen 4 had. And also it would be amazing if they brought back the H series design with a modern twist to it maybe. I love my old "backwards" counterclockwise Honda engines. It would be a wet dream if it was all that and AWD.

When my 4th gen Si non vtec was stock I never lost to any GSR/LS or even b16s except a gutted bolt on and chipped eg hatch b16a. Now that I’m modded and F20b swapped I beat any and every Si/s2000s and tons of other cars. It’s fast on the track as well, I wasn’t much slower than a modified m3 e46 at streets of willow. All I have is coils and toyo tires on stock brakes suspension wise.

Always had a soft spot for Preludes even during the peak of Honda’s when everyone else wanted Civic’s and Integra’s.

I wasn’t a car guy in 2000 but knowing that year Honda had their “ super car” line up with Civics, Integra, of course Preludes and the legendary S2000. After that year somethings gotta go.
Of all the generation. The 5th is the most original in my opinion and I wish I owned one original with that classic SI Blue. Though that generation is both rear and few like the GT-S(AE86) or the Starion in the States. The mid-late 80s( 2nd generation) is a great collectors car as it is just a relic of that decade of Japanese car market that thrived.

I almost bought a 5th generation one in 2001, the payments were to high I bought the 02 Civic Ex coupe instead as brand new at the time.

I feel like you're the only one to mention the Prelude SH unique from suspension, but only in a bullet point. The Prelude SH front suspension is the most advanced geometry Hondas used outside the new NSX. I'm putting the Prelude SH suspension on my 93 Accord.

From what I’ve read on wiki , both the prelude and integra were discontinued to focus on the rsx, even though the rsx is technically still an integra I’m assuming they used the extra funding from the prelude to throw into the redesign for the rsx integra

The first gen is the one for me, those hood vents and the taillights perfect. I would love to get my hands on one,, do some tasteful upgrades and thats it.
