    The "bato-bato sa langit" part is based on a Tagalog proverb. The whole proverb is, "Bato-bato sa langit, kung tamaan huwag magagalit." Proper translation is "If a stone thrown upwards/to the sky hits you, don't take offense." It talks about a criticism that's not directed to someone specific (stone thrown to the sky), if you feel that that criticism is directed to you, you shouldn't be offended. In this song they changed the second part of the proverb to "huwag kang masyadong halata" which is translated to "don't be too obvious". Meaning, don't make it too obvious that you know you're being criticized indirectly/don't make it too obvious that you're offended for being criticized indirectly because that would be like admitting that you're guilty.

    He addresses political&social issues in his songs a lot and I think they're all so heartbreaking and beautiful. This one in particular calls on people seated in govt office. Poverty is a reality for majority of Filipinos and it's bittersweet that it gets immortalized like this. You don't have to react to them, but if you can, please listen to (and check translations 😅) Lando and Magda. Both really cool commentaries.

    Gloc 9 loves to tackle important issues in Philippine society. These are my top 3 songs of Gloc 9.
    "UPUAN" or "the Seat" talks about poverty and social structure in the Philippines wherein power is concentrated to very few people. They are the powerful. . The most privileged. While the ordinary people are being left behind with almost nothing. The Seat refers to the position in the government like president, senators, etc
    SIRENA or "Mermaid" (context: half human half fish = half male half female) talks about the struggle of LGBT people. Specially those who grew up in a very abusive environment wherein their own family cannot accept them for who they are. Like gay kids that are beaten up by their own fathers.
    MAGDA short for Magdalena (a biblical Reference to Magdalene the prostitute) talks about prostitution and their life struggle and their struggles in pursuit of finding true love.

    • @MaDmOnStErQr
      @MaDmOnStErQr Pƙed rokem

      Sirena goes even way back because it was a common thing for fathers to try and drown the “gay” out of someone. Sirena or mermaid can breathe underwater so no matter how many times you try and drown them, it wouldn’t work, they would still be who they are.

    This song is directed to politicians who owned a "seat" or a position in the government. In the first part, he describes the life of politicians' life, and in the second, the life of the typical poorest of the poorest people here in PH.
    "Bato bato sa langit, ang tamaan ay wag magalit" is a saying literally means 'stone thrown in the sky, don't be mad whom it hits'. It means 'if bad/dirty actions/works were being talked about, don't be mad because it was addressed to no one in particular. If you reacted badly or get angry about it, it would only mean that you're the one doing it because you're being affected by it. So the part 'don't be so obvious' is a correct translation. He's saying to 'that person' who he describes on the first part to not react too obvious.

    Throwing stones in the sky, to those who get hit: Don't be mad. This is symbolism about the song towards those who get "triggered" by its lyrics (AKA Corrupt politicians) when they hear it, he's saying it might get too obvious if they start reacting.

    It’s an idiom in the Philippines (Bato bato sa lagit ang matamaam wag magalit) When they get hit by the rock, don’t react negatively. This is directed to politicians who are angry when their wealth from corruption are uncovered through investigations. That’s why kz and gloc 9 were saying “Wag kang masayadong halata” Don’t be too obvious.

    "Stones in the sky": "bato bato sa langit" in tagalog. It's a Filipino expression. It's one of those things that make no sense when translated in english. Bato bato is a type of bird. But bato also means "stone." And then "sa langit" means in the sky. So "bato bato(brid) in the sky" makes sense as it is. On the other hand, "bato bato(stone) in the sky" if you imagine a stone in the sky, it technically can hit anyone by accident, which leads to the other half of the expression/saying. "..ang tamaan wag magalit" means whoever gets hit, don't be mad. It's an expression used when you're saying something, usually criticism/facts, and someone in the room feels like/knows you're talking about them. It's comparable to you know these days when we read some memes and you react like, oh damn I feel attacked. That's basically what the other person feels (but not in a meme way). It's an expression used when you're like indirectly talking s- on someone. Idk if that makes sense. But in the context of the song, since the song is technically addressing to the government, the expression is kinda used to like say, don't act like you don't know who I'm talking about, (obviously you). Then the background vocals that goes "wag kang masyadong halata" basically says "don't be so obvious" (that you're feeling attacked).
    But your analysis and how it translated in english was actually interesting too, when you said stones being thrown at the system, over the high walls. Idk if that was thought through/intentional on his writing, or just an accident. But I wouldn't be surprised.
    Also the whole song is written with the word "po" throughout the song, which is used to show respect. But here it's like being passive aggressive, kinda sarcastic. So it's not like directly in the government's face that he's talking s- which I think strikes deeper. Because like wouldn't you feel pity if let's say you're an authority and you did something wrong, and someone below you still shows respect when pleading for you to recognize your fault? It would make you feel more sympathetic. But if it was more of a direct s- talk, you'd just get aggravated and wouldn't budge. So showing respect is also like a desperate attempt to make them feel sympathetic, rather than adding more fuel to the fire.

    "Batu-bato sa langit, ang tamaan ay wag magalit" is a Filipino saying. It's for a criticism without naming who it is intended for, and whoever reacts against it is an admission that it's for that person.
    e.g. "Someone in this room is so insensitive. Batu-bato sa langit (shortened version)"
    --Once you hear it, and know it's meant for you, don't engage verbally but you should behave yourself to avoid clash. Filipinos usually avoid confrontation in the name of "delikadésa" (not delicacy lol; it's the value of maintaining dignity/decency/decorum by avoiding embarrassing situations).
