Safety Third is a weekly show hosted by William Osman, NileRed, The Backyard Scientist, Allen Pan and a couple other CZcams "Scientists". Sometimes we have guests, sometimes it's just us, but always: safety is our number three priority.
Everyone is crouched but Michael is standing straight up.
The mines were made for children like him tbf.
Here before a Karen gets mad at top reply
@@steampunknord bro he won in a boxing match, thats more manly then whatever you do prolly
@@theultimatep1e40 Wow, you're so insecure about your masculinity that you're trying to defend someone else from a joke that they make?
@@steampunknord micheal would’ve laughed at this joke.
Props to the guide guy. He was really awesome and blended in with a bunch of crackhead scientists and a 12 year old child.
The guide is Brent from Ghost Town Living, a CZcams channel. One of my favorite channels. I've been following him since he had around 5,000 subscribers.
You should see when he has the diesel brothers there there like toddlers who are crazy rich they went down the elevator thing
@@BreakOutOfTheAlgorithm Came here to comment this, and you in verbatim said what I was going to
Excuse you, that twelve year old child is also a crackhead scientist.
the guide? he LIVES there and owns the place lmaoo
you guys are like if kids had adult privileges and its fantastic.
Welcome to your thirties where real money meets unfulfilled childhood dreams.
@@MrJurgenman I’m on my 30s, where do I get some real money??
The music lmao, I'm a huge fan of rdr2
they aren't adults, they are adult adjacent... they are also safety adjacent and common sense adjacent... and I'm here for all of that :D
Like?
“Michael go say hi, none of us here know how to talk to women” -William, Married
well, she is literally his "Caretaker", not "Wife", soooooo ;P
I feel like Michael probably has the terminal velocity of a squirrel so he doesn't really have to be too careful about falling down a mine shaft
I'm a big fan of what I'll call an "unfiltered documentary." You have a guide who is very knowledgeable on the subject, and the people on the tour are reacting in a very honest way. Eventually, I grew kinda' tired of this common interaction:
"Look at this."
"OH MY GOD."
*commercial break*
"It's a broken vase!"
Having people respond like adults to a massive, random pit in the Earth is refreshing.
This is why tubeYou is better than VeleTision!
The guide is Brent Underwood from the channel Ghost Town Living. That's his town and mines.
Documentaries are always trying to be the craziest thing you've ever seen, yet their editing is the most boring you've ever seen, and the person's reactions are the most generic you've ever seen. It's a terrible combination, making videos like these so much more enjoyable. I feel your choice of "refreshing" is very fitting, here.
Please don't die in a mine. It's harder and harder to tell your friends and family about the cool engineers you like when they disappear in a mine 😔
Yeah, happens too often
Being risk averse is no way to live
they are all gone. I remember back int he day when we had Tom Scott and Vsauce and Veritasium and all of them on YT but they all went into mines one after another I feel like they are gathering for some sort of secret project underground
Cody's Lab has legitimately dissapeared from my feed, and he has a mine.....COINCIDENCE????
@@cobralyoner this hole was made for me
The Chinese coin is older than it says on the label. It looks like it's a coin of Emperor Qianlong, so it would have been made sometime between 1735 and 1796. It's incredible that the coin might be older than the country it was found in. A great find.
That part helped me realize how much our history has been white washed too. All the old westerns and popular media just show european descendants/immigrants, and it’s a time so revered by such racist bigots… it’d be great to see how it actually was, and not some disneyified version.
Yeah crazy almost like history existed well before America got founded, and everyone should know enclaves of nations had settled well before the english settlers had established dominance and wiped out the original nationals there
@@DockheadThose original nations also wiped out other nations to settle there.
The country was always there, it just caught a new name.
@@Dockhead Shut up natives are still here today. back then they killed eachother for the same land and wealth so shut up every race has had hardship. noone is special
The chinese worker thing is pretty interesting. If you go out to Nevada, Eastern Oregon, southern Idaho, etc and checkout the old mining sites you'll find a ton of old chinese garbage. A lot of sites dont really acknowledge this, some do. It's crazy how repressed those populations were. Early racist immigration laws very specifically targeted chinese/asian population. Almost all the railroads in the american west were built using chinese immigrant labor. A lot of early logging operations heavily used chinese labor in the PNW.
There's a reason that pretty much every west coast city has a sizable chinese/asian population. Hell, even a town like Butte Montana has a lingering chinese noodle house because there was a massive amount of chinese labor there. Butte suppressed the chinese history while promoting the Irish history so nowadays Butte has a huge St Patrick's day festival.
It's interesting how much of american history is purposefully forgotten, repressed, and just outright lied about. Nowadays you get called a liar just for talking about it because people think it couldn't possibly be true, despite all the evidence of it.
I remember learning about this in highschool. I lived in Oregon most of my life and what you mentioned is true.
The US was literally founded on cheap and/or exploitative labor. I've had so many people get bent out of shape when I explain we used to intentionally bus migrant Hispanic workers across the US border for the growing season and then drop em off back in Mexico to return to their families during the off season. Think oil rig or fisherman seasonal labor where you're gone for three or four months. Part of the reason so many people illegally cross into the US is because they can't legally cross for work anymore or when we cut off these migratory worker programs, families were separated against their will.
The Dollup did a hilarious podcast discussing how we tried to convince high school kids to do the labor instead as part of summer programs.
czcams.com/video/R2p0tmZymeg/video.html
God I wish Nigel was there to check out the lab
Bad enough that Michael Reeves had any proximity to 100 year old Dynamite.
Nigel would be able to explain what the mercury was used for most likely too... then again I would assume Allen would know that yeah Chinese laborers were all over California in the gold rush days, although not sure where Allen grew up if he's a California native or not.
We must have a comparison between the lab in the video and Nigel’s lab. Hear how he would improve it and what he likes about this one.
i hope he makes an episode from there!
@@cyrilio well a fume hood installation would be #1 improvement/necessity added to it. Especially if you plan on using mercury to extract metal.
@10:15 - Shame Nigel wasn't there for this! Boric acid powder is one of these strange old-fashioned treatments that we have better modern alternatives too, but still quite common in farming use as mild antiseptic, astringent and antibacterial wound treatment. It's mostly intended for animal use, but I did once cut myself helping out on my great uncle's farm and he gave me a small jar of powdered acid to clean wound/stop bleeding & it worked surprisingly well.
why surprisingly? did you expect it to not do anything, or what?
@@jan_harald I definitely am surprised since it's main use is as a roach poison I wouldn't expect it to stop bleeding like the blood clotting powder
Glad to see medical technology has improved slightly since then
On a worksite the first aid kit is basically the same in principle. Better drugs, more types of drugs, and probably better sterilized bandaging.
@@ac.creations ya the biggest difference for these simple first aid kits is with antiseptics and analgesics which have improved significantly in the past century
@@mistephoenix instead of pouring whiskey on everything and then drinking mercury. Smoke your opium and get back to the brothel.
Brent is surprisingly good at babysitting you guys
This was such an exciting crossover, and everyone's reactions to different parts of Cerro Gordo was so fun to watch. Brent is a wonderful guy and I can't wait to hear more about how the plumbing fix goes !!
Right??? Ive been a fan of Brent since the beginning of his channel and a huge fan of OTV and Michael Reeves, it's crazy seeing both together
6:50 literally 100% of the infrastructure of the area i live in was built by Chinese wage slaves. They were not technically slaves in that they were paid something, but they were indentured servants. And they did an amazing job too! one of the roads they made is still in use today after 200 years of harsh weather. almost all of the stones they sank for the railing are still standing. the Chinese wage slaves are starting to get more recognition locally in history books at least. very little information about them is out there, like their names, where they came from, any writing they did, etc
I actually love Ghost Town Living so much, this is incredible
i love the fact that you found this guy and have been making content with him. i remember thinking how it would be awesome to see some of the youtubers i watch go and see the mines. i have been following your channel for more then 5 years now and when i saw that you had been doing colabs with brent in the ghost town i was so happy. i have also been following brents channel for 3 yeas or so now, and micheals reeves channel. thank you for the video i really appreciated it, it was a blast watching it.
Micheal is that one Lego character that can go through the small tunnels. That’s his ability.
This'll be fun lol what could go wrong
Also laser pointers would be awesome in there, you could see how deep the holes are.
As a Miner-Attracted Person I know I'm gonna love this video
Im sure they are looking for new staffers in that brothel
That was real close to the fbi showing up at your house
You’re sick.
💀
I minorly think you're sus
This is so surreal. I was up there last year for their metal detecting event and now knowing it's been blessed by you adds another layer of history
You know Alan is from Chicago when he still refers to it at the “Sears Tower”
I love your guys'content. Keep up the good work.
Very curious what would happen if you brought a Geiger counter around that place, I'm sure there's gotta be something that's radioactive, like either something like a piece of pottery in the store that's full of it or something in the mine. I just feel like it's the place to be exposed to that kind of stuff if you're running into random bottles of mercury and there was that box of human blood??
The crossover I didn't know I wanted but I'm so glad we got
I love Cerro Gordo and what Brent has been able to do with it! This was actually the cross over I didn’t know I needed!
While walking in my grandpa's hometown i came across 2 abandoned mines, covered by trees. Mines that only the old people of the town knew about. Its something so... Interesting abou those mines, but at the same time scarry. They are not marked or closed down, they are just forgotten. One of them was a gold mine and the other was for uranium prospects(this was during the time of the communists, and when the regime fell, everybody forgot about them). The goldmine was harder to find and when i did find it, i just stumbled upon it and wasnt prepared with flashlights and long pants. I just cant wait this summer to go there again and explore every last inch of them.
GOD the anxiety when watching you guys enter that tunnel without helmets on
That and hearing "It's my flashlight!" Really telling that they don't have enough flashlights.
More please!! I could watch an hour of this
Ive started to love Cerro Gordo. Amazing video series
Two of my fave channels coming together. Love it.
Do more of this!
LOVE this type of content from you guys. More please!
I love Ghost Town Living and didn't know this was the mashup I needed
I love ghost town living so much. Brent is amazing and I love that you guys came to visit him
Wow this was crazy. Loved seeing these snippets. Would love to see a complete inventory of that first aid kit and all the chems in it.
So freaking cool, wish this was hours long. Please consider making an elaborate documentary of this history including all the information and relics available. It would be fantastic!
Flippin love this channel
Oh my god, I love Ghost Town Living! So cool to see you guys together!
This is cooler than I imagined. I would die to visit this place for a month or two, it looks amazing.
ghost town living gets volunteers all the time if you have a skill or just want to work hard shoot him a email also go watch his stuff its really inturesting
I love when you guys risk your life's for my entertainment, keep it up

nice exploring, safety third!
also michael's here too!
i love these special videos.
Brent and his channel are awesome! So glad you guys collabed with him!
Mercury was used to extract the metal from the ore
It's still used in some places, especially by independent miners in Africa (very bad)
Dam dude, ur in Cero Gordo town. I love the ghost town living channel, nice to see that the old furniture is still there :)
Love interactions with Brent and Cerro Gordo!
Awesome that you hung out with this guy, I love his stuff, and obviously yours too. Hope it was fun!
2 of my favourite things.. Cerro Gordo and Michael Reeves…
I also enjoyed the podcast you guys made 👍🏻
This is the collab I didn't know I needed. But I did. What a blast you guys must have had.
Very cool video!
This is cool, Brent is such a genuine person. Never expected to see Michael and Brent conversing in a mine
this is the content we all love
what a solid colab!!!!
I'm getting second hand anxiety from watching this
That dude gets to live IRL stardew valley, and I’m unmeasurablely jealous.
Cool lil excursion
ive been following this guy since he bought the town, such a cool experience you guys probably had, unbelievably jealous
love that mine guy’s content , great crossover
3:13 that excited look after "a suffocating end"
More please
That is the same mine that corridor digital made a photo scan of
LOVE THIS COLLAB
It's crazy how when you see Ghost Town Living go into the mine so often and he looks so calm, and then you see everyone else reacting to it

What a collab I woulda never expected!
1:45, Sam from sam and colby climbed down that ladder without any harness or anything it made my skin crawl watching that
Never expected to see Michael at Cerro Gordo!
This is some fascinating stuff!
The crossover I needed but didn’t know i wanted
I love that @ghosttownliving has inspired a whole new era of cave exploring and discovering.
The crossover I never knew I needed
Its like this channel has added together the posting times of all these guys... Better late than never though, great video
this is so cool, being able to rummage through what would normally be a museum with glass cages and "do not touch", lol
I do have to wonder how legal it is, kinda, like what, the dude owns a whole town + mine? lol
Awesome! All my favorite youtube channels mixed together into one cool horror movie!!
I NEED MORE! PSSSST ANYONE WITH PATREON PLS HELP poor BANGLABADABOOMSH KIDdO!
The crossover we didn't know we needed
Stellar video
Yasss, great crossover
Any chance you guys filmed the garbage car journey up? I'd love to see that lmao
Holy shit 4 of my favorite youtubers collabing with another one of my favorite youtubers. Life is good
Do you guys just have like a raw 12 hour cut of being there it’s so freaking interesting man I wish I could go :/
this is literally that one episode of king of the hill
It's so bonkers when like 4 of my favorite CZcams channels collab. I just wish you science and shenanigans guys would collab with the PC side of CZcams ... Would Linus, GN, Bitwit, or Dawid be fun in these settings? Been watching Ghost Town Living since like week 1. Fun stuff.
The perfect crossover no one would have ever expected.
Wait wtf that's so cool! I've been following Brent since the beginning of his channel. It's so crazy seeing Michael Reeves and Brent in the same video
Brent is such a good guide
This is not a mash up of people I expected. Been following Cerro Gordo since the start! Fucking insane lads.
that dude's a ghost himself, lol
I love how they whisper when they handle the mercury.
Man I would give ANYTHING to digitally map these mines!
There are plans for that! He is looking for people to do that!
The crossover I never knew I wanted
Clicked on it cuz Michael was in the thumbnail. Ngl you guys should add him in all thumbnails.
What's part of California is this at? Finally some good content.
Two of the most random CZcamsrs I never expected to collab. Michael Reeves and the guide is Ghost Town Living. Absolutely amazing.
yes more safety third!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hopefully theres another ep in the mine
