In Ghana the old students of all secondary schools give back to the school. The tradition is to take on a project in the school at your 20th or 25th anniversary. The group also hosts the speech day for their anniversary year. It's a big thing especially in the central region. It's called homecoming. We stay from Thursday to Sunday. You should attend a speech day in the central region and see old students on display.

Lilly as Ghanaians we see some of these as so basic that we overlook it's significance really. Thank you for letting us know it's not as normal as we perceive it to be. God bless you. Admission into these schools is by how well you perform in your BECE mainly and a few by protocol and so it does not really matter which rural area you are you can still gain admission. SHS are categorized ie A, B, C so basically your performance in the BECE determines where you fall. And mind you students in almost all categories do well it is the extra infrastructure that makes the difference and our various governments as well as old students are doing well to bridge the gab.

My dear Lily, one of the benefits of free education in Ghana is that it gives equal opportunities for children from poor homes and rich homes. In these schools u see children from poor families doing better than those from rich homes. The effect is that there is respect for each other because both the rich and poor are seen to be equally endowed. The credit of this policy of social engineering goes to DR KWAME NKRUMAH OF BLESSED MEMORY

Positives & Negatives on either side can be highlighted, & there’s nothing impossible or “apples & oranges cf” about that.

You've got to go and see "The School' the best and quality place for a secondary education in Ghana. This secondary school they call "The School' is a pioneer in Ghana education bringing forth leaders that contributed and founded the nation. This school is so prestigious it is referred to just as "The School" and it is right there in Cape Coast, and it is not Wesley Girls High School. Actually the girls from Wesley Girls High School will immediately confirm that 'The School' is in a class of it's own. You should find this place.....

Both Wesley girls and Prempeh College are founded by Methodist church. Infact almost all the good schools were built by churches and Muslims and the Government came in.
